My bag may not be a "Vera" but is is a "Debbie" and I like it better!

DH used my grocery totes the other the day, and the clerk (a man, no less) recognized the bags. He said, "Hey, I know your wife". We both got a good chuckle out of that.

Vera Bradly bags are a quilted type bag made with prequilted material.
They are "pretty", but in my world, they do not have enough pockets, and are not functioanl enough for my taste.
My Aunt tried to get me to buy one when I visted her last year, and quite frankly I would not pay the price for something I would not have liked or used.
I made the "Professional tote" early last year and received many compliments on it.
I don't have a photo, but I used a remnant yard of Laurel Burch, with complimentary fabrics, and added more pockets.
As you all said, it was one of a kind, and I got so many compliments on my bag.

Happy quilting
Susan

Ok, ladies, have to say a word of support for Vera! I had never had one, although I thought they were pretty, but got a set as a retirement gift a while back. Now if I'm going to buy a purse, that's what I buy, but only on sale through the outlet. I like them because I love lots of pockets-the one I'm using now has two on the front, a big zippered one on the back, and three open pockets and a zippered one on the inside. They are light weight and most are fully machine washable! Those of you who sew well make purses that are gorgeous, but mine turned out ok, but not like some of yours. I don't think I'm a Vera snob, NEVER say "its a VERA"- but I DO like them! :-)

I then smiled and showed her MY purse and I told her that I make my own purses. She quickly replied, "BUT, it is not a Vera!"

A few minutes later as I was checking out, the store owner, who I know, complimented MY "Vera". I giggled and said, no ...I made my purse and she said, "nice"! Too funny! She will do well with Vera B. they were pretty and fun!

I have to admit vera bradley purses are made so well and very nice but just do not appeal to me...maybe just tooooo many of them around..like to see a pic of yours!

yep. She was a pioneer for marketed quilty accessories. i'm not going to fault her for that.

Vera Bags...

I will no longer purchase her products. When she died last year and her daughter took over the company, she took over 800 American jobs to China. Greed is not good....we need to keep jobs here.

Years ago I bought my mother a Vera because the fabric had chickens and she always loved "Chicken Fabric"...I spent a fortune since I added a coin purse, key case, glasses case, make-up bag, etc. She said "Oh how cute! Did you make it?". still laughing and have to say I love purses but really don't care for VB much.

I had to go to google to see what Vera purses are. It looks to me like quilters created a trend and someone figured out how to make money from it. Way to go, quilters!! Keep on making those unique bags that Vera can't replicate.

I have had Vera B bags. The first one was a gift, the others I got used on Ebay. However, the first bag I made for myself was "The Professional Tote". I found that I loved making bags, and can customize them to suit myself. I still think Vera B bags are lovely and hold up well, but now I prefer to make my own.
