No not fabric. Show me your calico cats. I have five cats and two are calicos. Molly Jean and Callie Jane. Four years old on April 13th.

Aren't they sweet! I have one outdoor calico named Gracie. She's not so tame, so doubt it I could catch her on cam.

I did not know that! Vet told us our orange tabby was a male (we named "her")..he said O tabbies are almost always male. Well, actually, he said "always"..but I've heard of females. I think! Maybe the owners just 'misdiagnosed' as we did.

Pretty cats!

Tango in my avatar is female and orange. I grew up thinking that orange tabby cats were always orange, not so. The calico color pattern is genetic, so always females.

As a matter of fact, they are. Smoky Marie had five kittens. 2 Calicos, 1 grey and white, 1 tortoise shell, and one solid black. The black one disappeared when they were a year old.

Beautiful kitties!

With 19 cats in the family, you would think we would have a calico, but the closest we come is tortoiseshell. Faye is pictured and she is my furbaby. She is a dilute tortoiseshell and is keeping me company while I quilt. My daughter has a beautiful, dark tortoiseshell.

A male calico is possible, but extremely rare and they are generally sterile. Orange females are not as rare as a male calico, again it's a genetic thing. I used to think that the darker the orange, the more likely to be male...volunteering on a spay neuter van showed me that thought was WRONG! LOL
