here in kansas we are having 102- 104 with a lot days of 106 thrown in since mid june. the couple of days it was 94-98 was great to get out in. it's already been a long summer. i do what i can by putting the a/c on 76-78 during the day but since not much is on tv that isn't on, just the puter and sewing machine and 1 lamp.DH has started back to work so now it will be running less things.

Oh, dear, I would freeze at your homes!!! Last summer when I was house/pet sitting for my daughter in Tampa, Florida, I'd turn on the AC when the temp in her apartment high 85, but by the time the temp got to 80-81, my feet were getting cold, so off the AC would go. There were ceiling fans in my bedroom and the living room and they were on all the time. Here in eastern Washington, it has been between 95-100 for weeks and our window AC in the kitchen is set at 74 to cool the rest of the house. I hate going into the kitchen because I freeze - good excuse to not cook!!! In the evening my DH sits in his chair with just shorts on...I'm wearing sweats and still cold! I find myself going outside just to warm up a bit!!! Of course, I freeze all winter here too!!!

I keep my AC on 78 but ceiling fans save the day. Every time I see one of those decorator shows where they immediately rip out the ceiling fans b/c they are "eyesores" I laugh - no way I would part with my ceiling fans.

I know... what is the deal? Do they look fabulous? No, but they keep the air moving. And BTW... I feel like a real pansy because I keep my AC on 74 in the summer (68 in the winter)

A Flex Alert has been called, asking us all to reduce our electricity useage....and I am more than willing to do my part.....So I will make the sacrifice and not run the vacuum cleaner, I will not do any laundry, I will not run the dishwasher (just let them stack up or switch to paper plates)...instead of opening my refrigerator I will get all my ice from the door dispenser.......I will even go so far as not to cook and heat up the kitchen (pizza delivery tonight)....but I kinda will draw the line at that I will not un-plug my computer, I will not un-plug my sewing machine, I may give my iron a break, but I will not turn my thermostat up to 78....all else fails, I will go shopping at my local quilt store for the afternoon...... And that is my story and I am sticking to it.....
It really is too hot to sew, quilt or even think....lots of TV today and every quilting program on my DVR will be reviewed again.....

That is why I live in Maine and LOVE WinterLOL. when it's cold out you can just pile on the quilts and or put another sweater and no extra drain on the utilities. Our Summer has been sooo damp and humid. Bring on Fall.

We had some crazy high days here in VA Beach too. I can't breathe when it gets that hot with the humidity. Its a chore just to let the dog out. While the news said it was 97 etc. Our thermometers on the covered deck said 105 + some days.
All I can say is I am very grateful we have airconditioning and I wonder how the women way back with their corsets and high necked long sleeved dresses every survived.

I live in the Sacramento, CA area, it's hot and humid already. I saw on the internet it is supposed to be even hotter tomorrow. We have ceiling fans in every room, we keep our A/C set on 81. We have a window air conditioner in the master bedroom and we keep it on at night so we can get a good nights sleep, we turn the house A/C to 85 then. I hope we get some relief, it's been this way for several days.

My brother lives in your area and said it was 112 the other day. I just got back from O.C and blazing hot there and coming thru Riverside and San Berdoo, it is about 85 on the mountain but to us that is still too hot, we are not flexin up here lol, turned on the air and calling it a day :).

At least your dog will go out! When it gets that hot, Leo just looks at me & says "No, thanks, Mommy... too hot. I'll just hold it till it cools off"... LOL!

You are so right Nanamoms Oxford MS is hot and humid most of the time, except for the last 2 days [it has been cooler]. Can't live here without AC. What part of MS are you from?
I would like to meet some quilters from here.

Well it is Monday....I made it thru the weekend, had no outages, but my poor little AC unit has been running 24/7.
Had a summer rain storm on Saturday with thunder, lightening and rain drops the size of silver dollars....The on Sunday storm clouds and touch down of not one but two tornados just north of me.....What crazy summer weather....was only 99 yesterday but I think its going to be hotter today. My poor vegetable garden is not doing well, some of my bell peppers are sunburned and my big beefsteak tomato plant is all but gone...however my onions are going very well, I guess it helps to have your head buried in the dirt !!!! Started a new cross stitch pattern yesterday to keep my hands busy. Have not been to the market in a week, need to go today as I am out of dogfood and wine !!!
