My knees have also been giving me troubles since taking meds 6 months ago...today I am hitting the treadmill again. In fact on it right now. I place a board on the rails and put my laptop on and start walking. I use to do this all the time but haven't in at least 6 months if not longer and I can feel it...my legs, butt, stomach have all gained and I feel blah...so starting today I am doing at least 1/2 hour a day. Hope I stick to it this time. So far my legs feel fine...but have only done 8 mins. LOL The times flies if you can read this board while walking

Just want to mention that I am a strong proponent of glucosamine/chondroitin. My knees started going bad pretty fast in my late 40's, early 50's. After a couple of years of standing by (no pun intended!) watching them go bad, I researched supplements and started on a heavy dose of the g/c. The deterioration stopped! Well, almost. It slowed so much that they have stayed *almost* the same now for about 15 years. I stop and start other supplements, but the g/c is every day!

The treadmill is/was one of my go-to machines but, during the last year, I have noticed that if I do a mile on the treadmill every day I develop leg pains; if I lay off the treadmill, the leg pains go away. When I told our GP about this, he recommended I get an elliptical. Now I have found that if I do the elliptical every day, I develop back aches. I will probably have to alternate machines to avoid those side effects.

I would absolutely love to have a personal trainer, but we live out in the boondocks. There is no gym I could join that is closer than a 30-minute drive away (in good road conditions), and honestly I cannot justify the cost of having a personal trainer come to the house -- not with all the other expenses we have at the moment.

Again, thanks to whoever recommended checking out DVDs on Youtube! The previews really helped me sort out DVDs I would probably enjoy from those that I would watch once.

I am 75 and do Leslie Sansone. Only I don't have a dvd - I have a tape. I do the first one - it doesn't hurt you at all and you feel really good after and I also do the one with dumbbells. It's only elbow bending with them and I use a 3# dumbbell. When you exercise with Leslie, it is a mile walk and you don't even realize it. She is great!

Love her heart healthy exercises.

Thank you for the big vote of confidence in the work out programs by Leslie. Went to Amazon and ordered me 2 of them, can't wait to get started improving my health before summer.
Great subject for all of us to stay in good health so we can make more quilts.

When I am in the recliner I do arm lifts -- from the bowl of ice cream to my mouth. And when I really want to workout I do a lot of repitions with a bag of chips!
