There is a plenty-big house on plenty of land for a city girl (about 1/2 acre) in a decent neighborhood, where I want to live, down in Brunswick, GA near the beach, for 40K right now. 4 bedrooms, two baths and a big backyard for the dogs and pool. Trouble is, I can't sell my house in Atlanta except MAYBE for 50K less than I paid for it in 2005. And since that won't work....I'll have to keep visiting the beach when I can. SIGH......

Wow, is that what that type of house costs out there?

It's perfect for someone who doesn't mind working on it. It does have plenty of charm, as an old house does. Hopefully someone will buy her and do her justice.

wow.. if I had it you could have it for this lovely home.
HUGGGGGGGGG

for that money, I'd just live on a cruise ship.

The house is okay, not something I would buy even though I do like old houses. If I had a fairy godmother, I'd buy about 10,000 acres, fenced of course, and put my log cabin in the middle of it, along with a big barn, and plenty of room for my fabric, a long arm and my animals.

patimint 08-28-2011 06:59 PM

Did you want that in cash, or can I write you a check???? If I had that kind of money, I would fix up my victorian house and add a LARGE quilting room.

It is definitely fun to day dream. I had a big house which I loved as everything had its place. But taxes were to high so we down sized and the house we have now is okay. We have to just make it ours. It will come.

I agree with several that said one floor. As some of us are getting older we need to think of how we are going to make it up the stairs. I know we have problems getting my dad into our house and he only has to go up three steps.

I hope your dreams come true one day.

I am a 66 year old grouch that took a nasty fall on Friday evening, my DH is a cancer patient and if I had a fairy Godmother, she would only be asked for good health and a few more years together. Otherwise I could use a longarm

madamekelly 08-28-2011 10:05 PM

My fairy God mother helped me find and finance my dream home already(1500 sq. ft. for me, DH, and the fur babies, and my sewing), so I guess I would wish, that you all get your wishes.

Incredible Queen Ann Victorian. Wonderful fireplaces, pocket doors, original woodwork, porte cochere, balconies, stained glass, butler's pantry.

I love it too....but 1 bathroom, that would be changed quickly

I always dreamed of a big old farmhouse with a large wraparound porch for my porch swing and a huge kitchen. What I got when we built what we could afford was a small development-style house with a tiny kitchen, no sewing room (had to give it up when kids came along). We did eventually build a deck the length of the house and 12 feet wide onto the back. We sure could use another bathroom. And we are blessed to live out in the country on my family dairy farm. I'm still dreaming of adding on. It never hurts to dream.

gee, if each member of the qb sent $5.00 then you'd have a great down payment at least. how many members are we?
i would move back to tx, probably austin or san antonio and be sure to have a quilt room. the rest of the money would go to no kill animal shelters.

thelondonzoo 08-30-2011 05:01 AM

My husband figured that if 25,000 people gave us $10 then we'd have enough to buy it. LOL

ptquilts 08-30-2011 05:05 AM

Hey, you could go on ebay and do a "Please Help" auction - ever see those?

mojo11 08-30-2011 07:51 AM

Beautiful home, at one time. Pretty expensive for the condition it looks to be in. I love old homes, but I sure don't have the money to repair. You need more like $500k. LOL

Seeing these old beautiful homes with so much history fall into disrepair is sooooo sad. What if the walls could talk?

mine was 1865. if the walls could talk, they'd say - fix me, heat me, paint me, plaster me. if the floors could talk, they'd say- refinish me, tile me, polish me, carpet me. if the ceilings could talk, they'd say - fix me, paint me, replaster me, remold me, i'm falling down.

don't even ask what the plumbing and the electric would say. those houses are evil, i tell you. especially in the new york area. that's why i don't live in one anymore. the heating alone .........

Terricat 08-31-2011 05:52 PM

BUT - this house is in ASTORIA, OR. Home of "THE GOONIES". Are you sure this isn't the house they used for the beginning of the movie? That would be the reason for the big ticket price, maybe.

Looks wonderful but there're an awful lot of fireplace pictures. I'd want to see the ceilings and the bathrooms (or the outhouse) and kitchen. Does it have a poltergeist, bleeding walls or a history of ax murders? For a dream house it's fabulous and the neighborhood looks nice.
