I want to buy this house:

http://www.areaproperties.com/listma...ngs/l0144.html

LOL.

What would you buy if you had a fairy godmother to lend you the money?

purplemem 08-27-2011 01:25 PM

For $100,000 I could buy a house with land, a long arm and a new car and still have money for fabric. Any lenders out there?

dakotamaid 08-27-2011 01:26 PM

A condo for my mom so we could get her to move off of the farm.:)

ptquilts 08-27-2011 01:27 PM

I like the colors but my favorite house is only $90,000.

Incredible Queen Ann Victorian. Wonderful fireplaces, pocket doors, original woodwork, porte cochere, balconies, stained glass, butler's pantry.

donnajean 08-27-2011 01:33 PM

You had better be pretty handy to maintain that type of house & they are very expensive to heat. We have a lot of restored Victorian houses near me in historic Newtown, PA

S D G 08-27-2011 01:49 PM

No way. Looks like a money pit to me. For 250,000 I could buy a new house with lots of land in the country.

scowlkat 08-27-2011 01:54 PM

For that amount of money, I could build a house, pay off all my bills, and possibly pay off a hit man to take care of my soon-to-be ex-husband! Not really but could sure use about $2500 to pay the attorney!

Tropical 08-27-2011 02:00 PM

I love the house we have. I would love to have the money to have a housekeeper, cook, maintenance man, and someone to do all of the yardwork. :)

TxDiana 08-27-2011 02:05 PM

I would build my dream house with a big wrap around porch. Two apt. Upstairs. So my kids could visit anytime. Buy a long arm and invite all my quilting friends over for FREE to do their own quilts....the first thing I would do is tithe off my new weath...

redquilter 08-27-2011 02:36 PM

Egads - where I live that would just about buy a garage! Oh woe is me! I just realized that may sound uppity and believe me, I don't mean it that way. I just mean to say that houses here are very expensive. We are in ours about 36 years and paid a fair price, but fair prices today are out of sight. (they aren't fair is the point!) I couldn't afford to move even if I wanted to. But that's OK - I like my house and my neighborhood.

Ok, I have my dream home pix, machine, and car.
Couldn't add them to the original file, had to shop first.

I have modest dreams...

I still have about 15 grand left to spend on fabric! What fun!

I think this would work for a nice retreat house.

sueisallaboutquilts 08-27-2011 03:02 PM

That's a very cool house!!
I can send you 10 bucks! LOL :D:D

jaciqltznok 08-27-2011 03:07 PM

wow..no wonder hubby does not want to move back to Astoria...we only paid $70K for our 4 BRM ranch here in OK...

jmabby 08-27-2011 03:08 PM

We all have dreams, some not so big

ljsunflower 08-27-2011 03:09 PM

Goodness! You don't want much, do you? LOL

0tis 08-27-2011 03:10 PM

California is very expensive real estate - you can get good deals but you really have to shop.

Are you kidding me?? I guess I'm spoiled living in the midwest. $250,000 will buy a lot of house here. If someone gave me that money I would buy myself a nice longarm and and invest the rest for retirement!

pojo 08-27-2011 03:27 PM

I wouldn't like that one.
I would build a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom, Huge kitchen and frontroom, sewing room and 3 car garage and basement. In the mountains of North Carolina and have a 10foot wrap around porch all the way around it. So all of you could come and enjoy yourself. A fireplace in each room too.

Fenced in 20 acres of land so any doggies or any other pets could roam while visiting.

luvTooQuilt 08-27-2011 03:33 PM

Id built a 5 bedroom house with all the bells and whistles, 4 baths, 2 living rooms, dining room , theater room, QUILTING-IN-LAW (house) 3 ROOM (bathroom kitchen and the rest open space)- off the indoor/outdoor pool with every machine, notion and fabric my heart desires.. - notice i mentioned off the pool..

Now that would definately be a worthy investment - for me! ;-)

pojo 08-27-2011 04:12 PM

Yes you could come too.
As long as you like animals.

I forgot to add a built in swimming pool enclosed so you could swim everyday of the year.

Barbm 08-27-2011 04:46 PM

that would pay off my mortgage and car. And a wee bit left over for some fabric.

My goal is to pay off the mortgage before I retire. I push myself to pay lots extra every month to be debt free soon.

I lived in this house over 50 yrs ago....I loved, loved, loved it. My bedroom was over the porch.......it was huge.
I wish I could buy it back but I can't afford the taxes and to heat it. WHEW !!!!

Lostn51 08-27-2011 05:36 PM

That is a cute house but I am with everyone else here for that kinda money you can get land and a house. My vacation home in Middle TN is a 4200sqft tri level home with two kitchens, 2 master suites and 6 bedrooms, 4 1/2 baths on 100 acres and I am paying taxes on $225,000.

I like yours too. We may have to arm wrestle to see who gets it. :)

thelondonzoo 08-27-2011 05:58 PM

Ya, it's a little pricey but a) it's in Astoria, which is amazing! and b) it was built in 1885, which, being a student historian, makes me swooooooon!!!! ;) lol

genafan201 08-27-2011 06:45 PM

This would work out perfect...I have the money for retirement, only not enough for a house where I want to be on top of it. If somebody gave me 250 grand, I'd be on the the Big Island Hawaii so fast it would make your head spin LOL!!

What's that saying...if wishes were horses, beggars might ride...Keep dreaming all!

sisLH 08-27-2011 07:17 PM

too bad you don't live near me in WI. They have 2 Victorians in the paper this week. Both cheap. One has a very curved open staircase - pretty house -price: $55,000.
Yep fifty five thousand!!

Cute, but having owned a three story house, I know what they cost to heat. Now I have more room, all on one floor (hallelujah)...more square feet, one teeny tiny step. Trust me, those steps get old fast.

mariebaker 08-27-2011 07:32 PM

I'm bookmarking this page and when I win the Powerball that $250K is yours :-D :-D

frarose 08-27-2011 07:34 PM
