I grew up in Maine and don't remember The Boxcar Children. We had Nancy Drew and the Hardy boys and another that I always brought home from the library had a girl sleuth named Beanie. I wish I could remember the names of the books. I grew up in the 50's and graduated in 64. Anyone remember Beanie?

My all time favorite children's books are, in no particular order: The Secret Garden Little Women Velveteen Rabbit. I re-read the Secret Garden every spring, and cry all over again.
My 3rd grade teacher told my mother that she never thought she would have to say anyone read too much, but she thought I did, because I read more than anyone she ever knew. i still love reading. I have books in the living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, car. All open, all currently reading. Lots of quilting books, cook books, mysteries. I pick them up at thrift shops mostly. I'll read anything, anywhere, anytime. I like James Patterson, but not Dean Koontz so much. The classic historic romances like Victoria Holt, not the silouhette or harlelquin series so much, too graphic and too formulative. Well, you got me started!!

My third graders were hooked on the Boxcar Children Series when I taught. I am sure that is the series. I used to read them the first one and then watch many look for others in the series.

Yup the first book in the series is the Boxcar Children by Gertrude Warner. I LOVED that book as a kid. I always wanted to take a shower under a waterfall.
