Can we have a "Games" thread and keep this one for "General Chit-Chat?

Just wondering if folks would like to move the "Games" to a separate area?

Lady Diana 11-24-2021 08:24 AM

Resounding, Yes! I have asked before. Games has taken over what this group is about.

bearisgray 11-24-2021 08:49 AM

People have asked - and asked - and asked - for many years - to have a separate games section.

Move Games

Amen to your suggestion. I am aware that folks love the games and quilting. I think it is a good suggestion to let each topic have its own area.

asked and asked and been denied and been denied.

mmunchkins 11-24-2021 05:25 PM

Asked for it myself.

ctrysass2012 11-24-2021 06:10 PM

I agree to a separate thread. The quilting posts are getting lost.

WMUTeach 11-25-2021 03:48 AM

One more voting for a thread/area for games.

sandy l 11-25-2021 04:20 AM

Who says no and why do they say no to seperating the two?

Catemarie 11-25-2021 04:30 AM

I say a definite yes.

bneuen 11-25-2021 04:34 AM

Definitely yes!

ka9sdn 11-25-2021 04:40 AM

Yes please a separate topic. I get tired of hunting for the quilt material.

railroad 11-25-2021 05:08 AM

Amen! I, too, have asked and nothing has happened.

illinois 11-25-2021 05:31 AM

Another YES. I spend too much time sorting through the list. This site isn't the one I enjoyed for many years. Now I've forgotten what they called it but, when they put all of this together, the quality of the site went down. Daily Digest? Was that it? I don't go to this to play games! It's about quilting.

GingerK 11-25-2021 05:41 AM

'Pictures' and 'mission organization' got a split. So did 'in search of' and 'members yard sale'. Why can't 'general chit chat' and 'games'? I am sure we would all be happy to listen to a reasonable explanation.

rjwilder 11-25-2021 05:42 AM

I agree, too many posts not related to quilting, sewing or crafting of any type. The name of this is “Quilting Board” it seems like everything imaginable is thrown in between the quilting posts.

JanieW 11-25-2021 06:37 AM

I don’t play the games so have no skin in the game. No pun intended. However this thread and the similar one in the Machine Embroidery forum have piqued my curiosity. This forum is clearly marked non quilting talk. I don’t understand why some of you are complaining that the games are obscuring the quilting topics when there are no quilting topics in this forum.

lberna 11-25-2021 08:26 AM

It does say in the description of this forum "non-quilting talk." The Main Forum is for all things related to quilting.

sewingpup 11-25-2021 08:34 AM

It was a bit confusing as to who to contact about making this change. I did pm on of the "administrators" but have not gotten a reply. If anyone else knows who to contact, please feel free to do so. I don't really know much about how this board works.

lberna 11-25-2021 09:04 AM

"we are a quilting board.
we have more than enough unrelated sections as it is."

Another one here saying ... I don't get it!

Simply put
This forum section is titled ....... "General Chit-Chat (non-quilting talk)"
Doesn't that tell us that this forum is most anything other than quilting talk?
Thus, if you don't want to see stuff not-about-quilting ... then don't go there!

I never see the games. I enter the Quilting Board via ...

Quiltingboard Forums
or .... via the auto-emails that come when a thread I am subscribed to, has a new post(s)
Subscriptions automatically happen as soon as I post.
Or if I do not want to post, I can manually subscribe.

Maybe this will help some?

Great idea!!!

sewingpup 11-25-2021 01:12 PM

I assumed as this is a "quiltingboard forum" that the subtopics have something to do with quilting or quilters. And that the subgroup had something to do with what quilters might do other than quilting. So topics like how to stitch on faux fur, and any ideas for a good embroidery book, or stretching exercises during sewing marathons might have a place to be discussed. I don't get the "games" or "jokes about blondies". When someone posts something other then "games" and "blonde jokes", it rapidly gets buried why down the list. Just seemed to me the that "games" and "blonde jokes" have enough volume or traffic to warrant their own special place.

“What quilters might do other than quilting”. Like word games and jokes?

Here I am again, saying "I don't get it!"
Simply put, I just don't get why quilters should not enjoy games ... and jokes.

Gosh, we'd be pretty boring people if our interests ended ...... in the sewing room!

Watson 11-25-2021 04:44 PM

I think that there so many...it is overwhelming the first quarter of the board when you open it to look for new posts.
When I open The Quilting Board, I'd like to see quilting -related posts and, if I'm interested in the rest I can go and find that.

"cat"astrophy 11-26-2021 04:10 AM

Me also a definite yes. The games are filling in so much of the blog and I come to see all the fabulous quilts made and helpful information members put out there. I really agree there should be another place for the games.

Again, the description of this General Chit-Chat forum says “non-quilting talk." The Main forum is for all things quilting.

OK...I get it. If the topic is "non-quilting talk" it Means "games". Anything else goes into one of the other sections OK..I will start doing that. Now that I understand the rules. I can do that. Maybe a statement could be added to "non-quilting talk AKA Games?)

ptquilts 11-26-2021 07:24 AM

I think the mods are MIA lately. Usually these kinds of threads get shut down right away. So what happens if people add even more game threads than the 10 we already have? Is there a limit to how many game threads are allowed?

Suz 11-26-2021 09:19 AM

Amen. Amen. Amen.

Threads in General Chit Chat cover a LOT more than just games.
Non-Quilting Talk means a LOT more than just games!

This seems to be such a frustration and annoyance to so many.
Have any of you tried the alternate suggestion offered in post #21???

Might even prove to be a stress reliever for some!

Anniedeb 11-26-2021 10:24 AM

Here's my "oh for Pete's sake". People...It clearly states "Non Quilting..." Scroll on by!! I have never participated in the games. However I do enjoy all the blond jokes, and anything else that pops up. Every time I come on here, I look at the forums. I usually start with Personal/Announcements for the human interest, and move my way upwards. Recipes, General Chit Chat, pictures, Main....Looking for....introduce yourself...It's just not that hard. I actually come on here several times a day, usually only for a few minutes at a time, whenever I get a short break in whatever I'm doing.

I would think your answer will be "Asked and answered."

sewbizgirl 11-26-2021 10:37 AM

Many people complain about all the game threads and nothing ever changes. One would have to surmise the moderator wants it just like it is.

I would be for all the game threads under their own section. Why not?

juliasb 11-26-2021 11:06 AM

I totally agree. Take them to their own area.

"A place for photos and non-personal, general-interest subjects not related to quilting." This is what is printed for the description of what "non-quilting talk" is for. When there is any other topic then one of the very numerous "games", that topic is often lost in the sheer volume of the "game" topics making it very hard to follow along with a "non-game, non-quilt related topic. I find some of those other topics interesting and would like to follow along. But Alas! The gamers are talking to loudly and everyone elses topic gets lost in the fray. That is why, as I think at least 80% of the postings in this section are "games", that the gamers need their own little space.

I can't speak for anyone else, but the reason I find the games annoying is that when I pull up "New Posts", I have to go thru all the games to find the actual quilting posts that have new replies. I always click New Posts when I log on so that I don't end up having to go thru a bunch of threads that have no new entries since the last time I was here

Onebyone 11-26-2021 08:05 PM

Quilting Nan, a moderator, use to delete my posts on Chit Chat the reason being it wasn't relevant to quilting. .

Thanks for this. That’s the first explanation that has actually made sense. I don’t use that function so this might be a stupid question but wouldn’t those same threads come up in New Posts if they were in a separate forum?

Also QuiltE gave a link for a different way to look at the forum so that the General chitchat section can be ignored and you can see all the forums on one page to choose where you want to read. That might be a solution.
