As a solider in the US Army and it being close to Memorial Day, I challenge everyone to list their favorite patriotic song, and why....
Mine is God Bless the USA. It has always been special, because my father was a Navy officer, and served in vietnam, gulf war and desert storm,, but after going to Iraq myself,, there is no place better than the USA. It was also played at our graduation of BCT ( Basic Combat Training) and after 12 weeks of hell, dirt, grime, sweat and yes tears,, I appreciate my country more. Hope you all can join in and take the challenge!!!! |
Star Spangled Banner. It always chokes me up when I hear it sung. I don't always agree with the gov't. but I believe we are the greatest country to be in.
|
God Bless America, we sang it so much in 8th grade it wasn't even funny. (God, has it only been 9 years? It feels like forever ago!) But I liked it since it was easy to remember.
|
I also tear up with The Star Spangled Banner...
|
"The Washington Post" by J. P. Sousa.
|
God Bless America, the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood. All of which send chills up my spine.
We indeed, have the BEST country to live in and I am so thankful to our military- past and present for protecting our freedom. I don't always agree with our government with our taxes and laws, but our basic freedom can't be beat. |
This one chokes me up.....
***SOME GAVE ALL*** I knew a man called him Sandy Kane Few folks even knew his name But a hero was he Left a boy, came back a man Still many just don't understand About the reasons we are free I can't forget the look in his eyes Or the tears he cries As he said these words to me All gave some and some gave all And some stood through for the red, white and blue And some had to fall And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall Some gave all Now Sandy Kane is no longer here But his words are oh so clear As they echo through out our land For all his friends who gave us all Who stood the ground and took the fall To help their fellow man Love your country and live with pride And don't forget those who died America can't you see All gave some and some gave all And some stood through for the red, white and blue And some had to fall And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall Some gave all And if you ever think of me Think of all your liberties and recall, yes recall Some gave all Some gave all |
Oh, God Bless the USA, it can really make me tear up!

first of all, everything patriotic makes me cry ... sometimes a little ... sometimes buckets. i have a long list of favorites. these are in no particular order:
anything by Susa. "Proud to Be An American", by Lee Greenwood. "Star Spangled Banner" "The 1812 Overture" "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" the last two strike me as particularly remarkable. We fought the War of 1812 against the British Empire. the melody for "My Country ..." is the basis for both an American patriotic song and for the British National Anthem. these two tunes remind me that enemies can become allies; that sacrifice on the battlefield is not in vain; their souls are not wasted unless we fail to make good of their sacrifice. on this Memorial Day ... and I hope on all future Memorial Days ... i may honor the memory of American souls in particular ... but i will honor also the souls of every man, woman and child who fought and died, under the flags of many nations, in pursuit of Freedom, Decency, Compassion, and every other value we hold mutually dear. |
America the Beautiful. When I was a kid, Mister Ed would sing it and I think that is how I fell in love with it.
