I believe it's called a Clematis vine. Sure is gorgeous!

I love it.Can't grow them here in Queensland.Saw some beautiful ones when I was in Wyoming many years ago.

Your Clematis looks like the Jackmanii. The blooms look like they are the size of plates. I just got two to go on an arbor. I think that Clematis are the queens of the garden. They are so lovely. And yours is gorgeous. Edie

Just plant some kind of a ground cover over the roots or mulch the clematis really well.
