This batch of company left today. But I have another batch coming Tuesday. :? And they have 3 teenage kids. They are not going to be staying with me, they rented a cabin for the week. But I'm gonna feed them one day. What could I feed them that would be fast and simple? I'm brain dead! I thought about sandwiches....a variety of cold cuts, tuna, chips, etc. Let everyone make their own. Would that be cold? (no pun intended ) ;-) I didn't invite them but they are welcome. :)

I've never known any teenagers who didn't like sandwiches and chips. My husband is an advisor for a high school club and they come here for meetings sometimes and I provide food. They like chips of course and cookies, but surprisingly, they have asked for fruit instead of desert. My husband made a fresh fruit platter to take to a meeting at the school and they gobbled it all up and thanked him. I think he used fresh pineapple, strawberries, grapes and orange slices. The other thing I've served is brats and chips.

How about ordering pizza? Or, a favorite among my son and friends is chicken roll ups. I buy cooked chicken out of the rotisserie at the grocery store, cut it up, and they use a flat wrap with mayo, lettuce, and whatever else they like.

They also prefer fruit to chips and juice to soda.

Baked spagetti is always good a for youth night supper at church. The kids love it.
G-son's football like the baked spagetti. You can make early in the day or freeze when needed. It is an easy and cheap meal.

NOthing wrong with serving cold cuts, chips etc. for lunch. Fresh fruit is great, and a pan of fresh brownies always seemds to go over. When I have "invited" company, we always have sandwiches for lunch. It's a time to visit, not be in the kitchen cooking!

littlehud 06-06-2010 03:09 PM

A variety of sandwich fixings and chips sound great to me. Most teenagers like that. Come to think of it, so do I.

dsb38327 06-06-2010 03:22 PM

Your menu sounds good. Are there garden tomatoes out already? Yummmm!

Luv Quilts and Cats 06-06-2010 03:23 PM

I think sandwiches and chips is a great idea. Kids love that stuff. Desert could be ice cream or bakery chocolate chip cookies.

I like to serve sloppy joes, or taverns as they call them in South Dakota, but then some may not like they way they are made. Also a huge pan of lasanga goes over good with my groups and that can be made the easy way, but I think sandwiches are great. Only thing sometimes that gets a little spendy.....

I think your menu is fine. Just be sure to have enough...teenagers eat a lot :!:

craftybear 06-06-2010 04:14 PM

sandwiches, chips, cookies, sounds like a plan

luv-e 06-06-2010 04:34 PM

Taco Salad. Let them build their own. and Root Beer Floats
Or tacos in a bag. someone just sent me the recipe. Easy as can be. Kids love to eat those at the Fairs.

pab58 06-06-2010 04:37 PM

Domino's delivers!!!

tlrnhi 06-06-2010 05:30 PM

Sandwiches and chips would be fine.
That's what I do when we have company for lunch/brunch.
Everyone loves it and they get to make exactly what they want on their sandwich.
Fruit and/or veggie tray is good too.
Have never seen a child, no matter what age pass it up

My teenagers favorite sandwhich..... a french loaf from pillsbury.. bake it in the oven let it cool then have all the meats on the table and let him dig in.. he LOVES it. Gets him FULLL to.

true4uca 06-06-2010 05:34 PM

For teens I buy flat bread ,cold cuts thinly sliced( easier to roll), toppings (think Tacos). Then let them roll up their own sandwich.

Tink's Mom 06-06-2010 05:41 PM

Buy some french or italian bread...you know the loooongggg ones cut into 6-8" hunks and slice open...let them make their own subs like Subway...have shaved lettace, tomato, olive, onion, pepper,as well as the meats and cheese...

Lisanne 06-06-2010 05:49 PM

It can't hurt to set out salad greens and cut-up veggies, too. They can make a salad, add them to their sandwiches or dip them. Some people might want less fattening food - and doesn't your hubby have to eat that kind of stuff anyway?

EllaBud 06-06-2010 05:49 PM

There's always Stouffer's lasagna, a bag salad, bottled dressing, Pepperidge Farm garlic bread and a quick brownie mix. They'll love it.

QuiltingGrannie 06-06-2010 05:49 PM

Coffee and donuts! It's what you feed us!

Seriously now, if they are renting a cabin they may already be eating a lot of sandwiches and such and be ready for a hot meal.

Frozen lasagna (baked of course - thought I'd through that in just in case....) Garlic bread.

Tacos would work.

Sloppy joes

Burgers and hot dogs on the grill with all the fixins, chips, fruit, and drinks. You may add potato salad, or macaroni salad. If you don't want to make those you can get them already made up.

Spaghetti and sauce, garlic bread, salad, fruit, ....

Good luck and let us know what you are making - we may come join you.

Lisa 06-06-2010 05:52 PM

Oh man, now I'm hungry!

craftybear 06-06-2010 05:53 PM

fix something hot in crock pot

Granna of 5 06-06-2010 06:11 PM

Do the quick chicken pot pie with can chicken, cream of chicken soup, veg-all, and two frozen pie crust. Serve with salad and quick lemonade pie (1 lg cool whip, 1 sm frozen lemonade, a can condensed milk mix pour in graham crust chill.

CAROLJ 06-06-2010 06:17 PM

Sounds wonderul to me. Top it off with melon or fruit for desert. Or get everything for ice cream sundaes and let them make their own.

dotcomdtcm 06-06-2010 06:43 PM

A lot of kids eat healthy. How about a salad bar w good rolls, brownies, iced tea, watermelon.
Or a big batch of ziti /pasta w salad. Cold cuts are really expensive for a gang!

marsye 06-06-2010 07:06 PM

Thanks for the ideas.......I think I'll go with the sub buns, lunch meats, chips, cookies and fruit. I don't want to have to cook anything. I don't mind cooking if I have time but between trying to keep up with orders, my hubs, etc. I just don't have time. I've been in the kitchen for 3 days now!

PS......the donuts and coffee are just for us QB'ers. ;)

pennijanine 06-06-2010 07:11 PM

BellaBoo 06-06-2010 07:58 PM

A big bowl of macaroni and cheese with lots of cheese. Teens love that with sandwiches.

dotcomdtcm 06-06-2010 08:04 PM

OMG!!!! Its my other half sister!!!!
You don't have to sneak in.....my door is open.

quiltinghere 06-07-2010 03:41 AM

Sandwiches are a good idea . . . but sometimes that lunchmeat can be pretty expensive and you'll have to buy several types of it.

I think Tacos, lettuce and cheese, packaged spanish rice, salsa and chips, plain cheese (or cheese? in the can) and crackers, and simple veggies and ranch dip would work too

Or Pizza or items from a restaurant/fast food place they don't have by their house.

Good luck!

LBryan13790 06-07-2010 03:52 AM

Here is a coleslaw recipe that my teenager loves. It is easy, keeps longer than lettuce, and he can grab some whenever he is hungry! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Sweet-R...aw/Detail.aspx

mary quite contrary 06-07-2010 03:58 AM

Thanks alot! You just cost me 5 lbs at least. I probably had too many of your donuts!
