How can I tell if Windows is activated?
Control Panel

To check your Windows activation status, do the following:

Click to open System.

Under Windows activation, you can view your activation status.
********
You should see a product ID number on the bottom of the screen.. I wonder if you cleaned out too many temp files and cookies, and Big Brother is checking up on you. Like the others suggested, contact Microsoft directly, and not through any links.

2. Your monitor could be off, or one of the knobs or buttons on it might have been moved and needs to be moved the other way to show the picture.
3. You could have a virus that is affecting your screen and/or your bootup hardware or software.

Even with good anti-virus software, viruses and malware do sometimes get in - that's why you run periodic scans as well as just letting it run in the background all the time.

You may or may not have a virus. Scam pop-up windows aren't always viruses. The pop-up you got saying you don't have genuine Windows is very likely a scam. You can check right on the Microsoft website whether it's genuine or not, here: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/val...displaylang=en

But get your monitor working first, and also run a full virus scan and remove any viruses.

I checked this out today and found that my copy is not valid. Thanks Lisanne for the link. The bottom line is I was sold an invalid windows 7 on ebay. Lesson learned. I will soon have the problem fixed through microsoft by purchasing a valid product key. Thanks for your help and info everyone. This is a great place to get questions answered and the most helpful people!! :D

I would not reply, sounds fishy to me. Contact Microsoft itself and see what they say.

Hi..this really sounds like you have a virus or some other malicious software on your computer, when you have things like that pop up. Do not respond to the pop ups but do the following if you are able to

Run your antivirus program.

I have also at times run an free on-line antivirus as well. There is a good one here - http://www.eset.com/online-scanner. You will have to follow the prompts and it will install some things it needs onto your computer but there shouldn't be any problems.

I also have a program called Malwarebytes that I regularly use. It is free and can be found here - http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

I also have a good program called Trojanhunter. You can get a free trial here - http://www.trojanhunter.com/

If you are not comfortable doing these things, I can direct you to a couple of forums where there is some excellent folks who can help you get rid of this problem. I have used them on many occasions and have learnt a lot from them.

Could you please let me know about those forums here or pm? Thanks so much :-D Can you run any of these virus scans while using Microsoft Security Essentials? Didn't know if they would work against each other at the same time.

Sorry, I don't know anything about Microsoft Security Essentials. I have pm'd you with the sites I was talking about :)
