We do it here too, my neices each had huge candy tables but others have the cookie tables...If and when my sons ever decide to marry I am having BOTH !!! I will be one happy Mom when that happens, I have been waiting forever to get a DIL .....then some grandbabies.

Never been to a wedding where there is a cookie table. Sounds like a good idea to me!

Must be a custom in the NE part of the country - never heard of such before. Sounds like a good idea, especially if there are children in attendance.

Wow, have never heard of a cookie table or a candy one either. Since I love sweets I think it's a great idea to have one or the other.

Washington/Oregon here, never heard of it. Who needs a reason for a cookie table, I think they should be standard in homes everywhere lol!

I've been to many weddings where there were cookie tables/trays. You're right, the cookies are usually made by the families. It seems they show up at the more traditional weddings, not the new event-type. personably i prefer a cookie table to some of the god-awful grooms cakes that seem to be popular-most i've seen have been ugly!

This sounds much better than the candy table brides are having here in the South these days.

I'm from an Italian family. We always have a cake and there's ALWAYS a tray of cookies brought to each table. Sometimes even little pastries as well. For many years, there has been the custom of a "Viennese" table set up with an array of desserts. Sometimes an enormous display, sometimes not so big. Depends on how much money the bride wants to spend and also depends on the catering hall. There is still always the cake. I think the idea of a cookie table with goodies made by family is a wonderful custom and I would venture to say it's local.

I, too, have never heard of a cookie table at a wedding reception. However, I think it sounds like a very nice tradition. Thank you for sharing it.

I've been to weddings here where there is a sweet table (everything from Eclairs to cannolli's) here in the Chicago area...last summer my niece had a candy table with all the different candies in clear glass jars...
But no cookie table...sounds great to me!
