City pools are now closed to the public for the year. On 9-5-11 this park is open to dogs only. Our first time here we could not find a place to park . Must have been 300+ dogs. The water was like bath water. There will be alot of dogs sleeping it off today.

HOW NICE.

ontheriver 09-06-2011 04:55 AM

Different, never seen this before, bet they were having fun.

I've heard of doggie parks but never doggie pools. What a great idea and the dogs must love it. My son's golden retreaver looked awfully hot this summer but he couldn't go into their pool as it has a vinyl liners.

sparkys_mom 09-06-2011 05:14 AM

That's neat. They did that at one of our community pools this year, too. I didn't go as my dog isn't overly fond of swimming. :)

sweet 09-06-2011 05:15 AM

That is so cool! Dogs that love the water must be very happy for this day!

trueimage 09-06-2011 05:26 AM

I have never seen anything like that before. How fun! My dogs are hydrophobic...lol

lfw045 09-06-2011 05:39 AM

They did this in Lynchburg, VA too......lol!

charity-crafter 09-06-2011 05:39 AM

At our communuty pool, the last afternoon the pool is open is a dog swim. It's so funny watching the water loving dogs play. The poor dogs that don't like water stand in the baby pool looking all scared.

Tink's Mom 09-06-2011 05:42 AM

That is so cool...I bet Tink would like that, but she only needs 1foot of water to swim in...

nyelphaba 09-06-2011 06:07 AM

That is a great idea.

nativetexan 09-06-2011 06:09 AM

QuiltnNan 09-06-2011 06:40 AM

quiltsRfun 09-06-2011 10:20 AM

Looks like the dogs are having a great time.

Jim's Gem 09-06-2011 10:54 AM

What a wonderful idea!!! Wish I could find something like that for my girls!! They love the water (unless it's coming from a hose)

SuzyQ 09-06-2011 11:10 AM

How FUN!

Yooper32 09-07-2011 05:13 AM

God love em'. Looks like they found a bit of heaven on that day.

Pieceful Quilter 09-07-2011 05:22 AM

What a great idea! Since I live on the desert where the dogs get really HOT in the summer, I got the largest, deepest, most heavy duty hard plastic baby pool I could find.

It is filled May first and drained October first. To keep it clean I use a mini chlorine float designed for spas.

When I drag that thing out in the spring, my dogs go wild with anticipation. They have spent countless hours rollicking around in that pool - which is now over ten years old and still holding it's own. My neighbors even send their dog over to join in the fun once in a while. After a "play date" day, the dogs sleep like the dead!

One of the best "doggie" purchases I ever made!

Naturalmama 09-07-2011 06:05 AM

That is so fun!!

sharoney 09-07-2011 06:09 AM

What a "cool" idea!

nwm50 09-07-2011 07:39 AM

Must be pretty cool with everyone there wearing sweatshirts but the dogs are LOVING it!

barbo117 09-07-2011 07:43 AM

What a great idea. Somebody using their heads and I know the dogs love it.

caspharm 09-07-2011 09:24 AM

Looks like fun, but was the lifeguard for the dogs or the people? :)

GlitzyMe 09-07-2011 10:54 AM

Oh my gosh.....what a terrific idea! Bryn is a lab and adores the water when we visit up north. Down here we have gators only a block away so she is fenced in or on leash.

FERSID 09-07-2011 11:04 AM

Even Fur Babies like to swim. Great fun for them

Ilovemydogs 09-07-2011 11:22 AM

We have a plastic kiddie pool for our 2. They love it.

Stitchit123 09-07-2011 12:23 PM

How cool is that

alwayslearning 09-07-2011 12:45 PM

This is fabulous! Thanks for sharing.

29cathie 09-07-2011 01:22 PM

Do they have one for cats?

ube quilting 09-07-2011 01:32 PM

Do dogs pee in the water?

That is way cool! My doggie wouldn't come within 5 feet of the bathtub, but he loved to jump right into the smelliest and vile of ponds, puddles and streams near at hand.

Walter'sMom 09-07-2011 02:38 PM

Happy day for the happy puppies and for their masters too. I am sure there were lots and lots of smiles. Love how doggies get along when they are off leash.

MargeD 09-07-2011 03:23 PM

Talk about going to the dogs - I think that's a marvelous idea.

Pinkiris 09-07-2011 04:57 PM

Our granddog, Allie, went to her local pool in Oklahoma on Monday also. Daughter said she loved it! They sell 150 tickets so it doesn't get overcrowded.

almostfree 09-07-2011 04:58 PM

They did that in our local pool also. Didn't take our doggies, but I bet the others loved it.
