Crocheted Ruffle Scarves

Here's what I am making for the girls in the family. Got the yarn at Michaels - Star Bella and Sashay then followed the you tube video on ruffle scarves. Very easy and fast.

Here's the youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7mg0Y--7kk

Enjoy!

These seem to be the most popular scarf to do this year. My daughter is getting one. They are so pretty and not at all hard to do for the resulting look.

bakermom 12-16-2012 12:46 PM

I've made several for my girls. They are fast and I like them because I don't have to "think" too much.
DIL picked hers out already and one DD has dibs on another.

Tartan 12-16-2012 01:56 PM

My daughter has crocheted several too. They work up fast and look really nice!

Patti25314 12-16-2012 04:22 PM

I got one as a gift this year. Love it. But I saw another person doing it with knitting needles. I guess it doesn't matter.

patchsamkim 12-16-2012 04:48 PM

I have the yarn...am more of a knitter than a quilter, but am going to watch the video to see if I can learn how to do the crocheted one...I know it will go faster...and probably is easier than trying to knit with this yarn.

sewmom 12-16-2012 06:11 PM

I knitted 6 of them. I can knit one in a few hours. I think they are so cool to make.

DawnMarie 12-16-2012 06:19 PM

ICE Yarns is a bit more pricey than the stuff at Jo-Ann's or Hobby Lobby, but they have some really neat variations on the ruffle yarns. I've really enjoyed making these for Christmas too! :)

SewExtremeSeams 12-16-2012 06:26 PM

Love the colors you picked.

sewnsewer2 12-16-2012 07:09 PM

Thanks for the website and yours are beautiful! I saw a lady wearing one and I though it was so pretty! Do you think walmart has that yarn?

kathdavis 12-16-2012 07:55 PM

I'm on my 7th one. Every time I make one, one of my daughters want it. I finally made a few for myself. I get a lot of compliments on them.

Sewnsewer2, Walmart does carry this yarn, but mine is always out or have few choices. Michaels and JoAnn's seems to be the best place around my home to get this yarn.

owlvamp 12-16-2012 08:01 PM

when you crochet this scarf how many stitches do you do? How many skeins do you use ?

pinecone 12-16-2012 08:04 PM

I got some of the yard at Joann's, wish I could see you tube on dial-up but one of the ladys at our quilting group was making some of these. Maybe I can coax her to teach me.

Thanks Kathleen, I ordered some from ebay tonight.

kuntryquilter 12-17-2012 04:08 AM

Thank you for this tutorial. I have had 2 of these done by a friend, she knitted them, now I can make my own.

quilt3311 12-17-2012 05:10 AM

Thanks for sharing the video. Have a ball of thread and was trying to figure out how to do the stitching. Now I can do it.

Vat 12-17-2012 05:21 AM

Love them, I have done about a dozen.

wolph33 12-17-2012 06:51 AM

those are adorable.they make a great gift.

buslady 12-17-2012 07:44 AM

Our walmart does not. My 9 year old GD made me one. I bought her several skeins of the yarn when on sale, still waiting for more. They can be knitted, but I found it difficult. I'm like that.

vjengels 12-17-2012 08:20 AM

OMG!!! I have wanted one of those since I first saw one 2 years ago! everyone I talked to had received it as a gift, said so & so had knit it..... I AM SOOO going to make at least one! thank you SOOO much for the link!

Sandygirl 12-17-2012 08:36 AM

All gorgeous and so on trend!

Have you all seen this yet?

http://www.redheart.com/free-pattern...sy-chain-scarf

Red Heart posted the pattern on their Facebook page yesterday... I ran and grabbed a skein of ruffle yarn and made one, and I'm wearing it today! It's so cool and FAST. They tell you to do the chain using only your fingers, but I used a very large crochet hook (one of the huge plastic ones).

solstice3 12-17-2012 09:45 AM

thanks for the link. great scarves

twinkie 12-17-2012 11:33 AM

Thank you so much. I had tried to make them with other instructions and it was very difficult. After clicking on the video you furnished, I am on my 4th scarf this morning. Thanks so very much.

CAS49OR 12-17-2012 12:16 PM

Those are really pretty. Thanks for sharing the link. I tried to knit one and didn't enjoy it, now I'm going to crochet one.

CAS49OR 12-17-2012 12:19 PM

Thanks for sharing that DonnaC, I like it even better than crocheting one!

I've knitted and crocheted them. I actually prefer the process of the knitting, but the look of the crochet. Although, I did do some in stockinette stitch and really liked them because they lay flat and the ruffles cascade nicely back and forth across the front of the scarf.

Can you post yours? Would love to see it! Thanks for sharing something new and quick in time for Xmas!

Jannie 12-17-2012 07:39 PM

I bought some of this yarn at Walmart.

katesnanna 12-17-2012 09:33 PM

I agree with sewmom, I'm not a fast knitter and I have done three lately. They only take one ball and a couple of hours.
Gave my daughter one yesterday even though we are into summer.

nstitches4u 12-17-2012 09:39 PM

I'm making them too. They are so pretty and quick to make.

QuiltinMama 12-18-2012 05:25 AM

yes walmart has that yarn called sashay yarn...
hugs

mjhaess 12-18-2012 09:25 AM

Thanks...I love the look of those....

karate lady 12-18-2012 11:56 AM

a friend of mne was here yesterday with some of this yarn and written instructions on how to knit with it. as I am not much of knitter we just could not figure it out. will get her over to look at the link to crochet it. thank you....

laurlync 12-18-2012 01:16 PM

I have made several, some for me and some for gifts. I first thought I would crochet them because I have been crocheting most of life, but I also tried knitting them and found it was much easier for me to knit them. So quick and easy. Love it!

Carol34446 12-18-2012 02:50 PM

Wal Mart had it here a while back, not sure if they still do and it is a family super center so not as big as the bigger supercenters..

karate lady 12-18-2012 03:41 PM

does anyone know of a video for the knitted one. am having my friend over later to see the crochet one.

Pat G 12-18-2012 05:56 PM

There are great videos showing both methods. I just arrived home to Wash. state from Ariz. Flew out of Las Vegas. I brought my crochet hook & a cpl. of skeins of Sashay yarn (same as Starbella?). I started a black & white one at the airport & finished it on the flight to Seattle.
The young woman sitting next to me asked if she could watch how to do it. She had just bought it for her dtr. thinking her dtr. could do it more easily than she could. Once she watched how simple it is, she was now inspired to try it herself. I've made sev. now so I sure hope the girls I plan to give them to will like & use them.
They must be very popular since WalMart sold out of the yarn. They have it for $4.97 while I've seen it other places for $6.98.

Hi ladies! Here's a picture of the chain scarf I made from the instructions on the Red Heart website. Actually, you don't really need instructions - just take the skein of ruffle yarn and crochet a chain until you run out of yarn, leaving about 5" at each end to tie it together (the knot goes at the back of your neck when it's worn). The Red Heart directions tell you to just use your fingers to crochet the chain, but I used a very large plastic hook.
