I think y'all may be right... that it is only a myth, but a long time ago, I saw a quilting book that showed some Amish quilts with "mistakes"... a square turned the wrong direction or a different color. And that quote was used. Hmm!

I guess those quiltmakers had a sense of humor. |
The saying goes like this "Don't believe everything you hear".
|
I don't think that is with only the Amish. A wonderful college Home Economics professor collected quilts for her family's log cabin, and she would show a mistake in each of the quilts (some dating back to 1700s) to show non-perfection humbleness.

I have no idea if the Amish myth is true. I have a friend who always puts a block in her quilts wrong or some mistake on purpose. It makes me nuts.

I believe most of us try to make everything we can to the best of our ability.

That is one false saying that just won't go away. The Amish would try to make anything to the best of their ability because the work of their hands is to honour God.

I don't think the mistake is deliberate, they know the mistake is there.

Heard the same story from Muslim brassworkers,
|
A "deliberate" mistake is not a mistake. It's intentional, so can't be a mistake.
