Default "Deliberate mistake" -

I have seen the line "the Amish make a 'deliberate mistake' in their quilts - - - -"

Do they do this with other things they make such as furniture? It would seem logical to me that this would be done with "everything" they make?

How about deliberately messing up a recipe?

I never ever have to make a 'deliberate mistake' in my quilts - there is always some imperfection - I try to fix 'obvious errors' -

"Deliberate mistake" seems like such an contradictory statement to me.

I’ve heard it called “humble” something. And I always thought it was ridiculous. Nothing is perfect. I bought Amish furniture before and I doubt the man who made it made mistakes in it. IMHO, I believe this is directed toward women only.

That saying is a myth. For the Amish to think they could be perfect in anything against their belief.

We recently had a cherry table and chairs made by the Amish and they look awesome. I've also heard that is a myth.

We had a bedroom set made by the Amish and it is beautiful and no mistakes whatsoever. I have heard of that saying too but I thought it pertained to the quilts because they believe that only God is perfect.

any Amish person will tell you that is a ridiculous myth.

ok ... if they want to get a good laugh at your expense they might let you believe it.

otherwise they will most likely look at you as though you had lost your mind. lol

That is one false saying that just won't go away. The Amish would try to make anything to the best of their ability because the work of their hands is to honour God.

That the Amish put a humble block (a deliberate mistake) in a quilt because only God is perfect is a myth.

However, finding a mistake in a quilt does keep us humble. Maybe that's how the myth originated.

To me it was kind of funny saying because if it is a "deliberate" act then it is no longer a mistake it become intentional.
