I think y'all may be right... that it is only a myth, but a long time ago, I saw a quilting book that showed some Amish quilts with "mistakes"... a square turned the wrong direction or a different color. And that quote was used. Hmm!

I don't think that is with only the Amish. A wonderful college Home Economics professor collected quilts for her family's log cabin, and she would show a mistake in each of the quilts (some dating back to 1700s) to show non-perfection humbleness.

I have no idea if the Amish myth is true. I have a friend who always puts a block in her quilts wrong or some mistake on purpose. It makes me nuts.

I believe most of us try to make everything we can to the best of our ability.

A "deliberate" mistake is not a mistake. It's intentional, so can't be a mistake.
