Hello everyone!

Today was Hans' birthday and as the kids were off school, we went to Monkey Valley for the day. What's lovely is the monkeys are free roaming (well, the big guys, gorillas, chimps etc are on islands! )

The smaller monkeys are in open woodland and you walk along trails where they are in the trees all around you. It was a beautiful, sunny day and we had a great time! Hope you enjoy the pics! :D

There was a strange type of monkey there that I'd never seen before, the Latin name was Singeus Sockus!

Oh, Skeat, what HAVE you started?! :D

Loretta - this is the Vallée des Singes which is near Poitiers in the west of France.

Skeat recently 'introduced' me to sock monkeys and I made one yesterday, so of course, he had to come with us to visit his relatives! Here's a couple more pics! :D

What the HECK? You can walk around where monkeys are walking around???? And tha big one was right by you??? Is that safe?? Okay--it must be safe--your kids were there  .... man oh man, I've never heard of anything like this. Amazing!!

Your family is beautiful. :D

quiltwoman 05-23-2009 03:21 AM

What a great birthday outing. It appears that the "sock" monkey had the most fun

k3n 05-23-2009 05:29 AM

Thanks everyone, from Hans for the birthday wishes!

Sock monkey so fat is just Sock Monkey - no name yet!

Karla - the big guys are on moated islands so it's quite safe! It's only the lemurs, capucins, spider monkeys etc who are climbing in the trees all around you. You are told to look out for hats, sun glasses etc as they are known to grab things and run!

Did you like his carrot cigar? LOL!

The woman at the cash desk wanted me to leave him in safety deposot - she was worried that one of the monkeys would pinch him. I said, no way! he's here to visit his relatives! :D

K, you had a family reunion for Hans birthday, how sweet!
Happy Birthday, Hans!
Saw the pic of the lemurs, sitting, then scrolled down, to lily and joey sitting...was funny...and the little lemur was willing to be photographed, awww!
Then, the sangeus sockeus (sp)...said, and leaned forward, "Does that little monkey have a hat on?"...sure nuff...just like your other children, lol!

Yes!! His face is hysterical! Looking at you like "yeah, what do you want!" Did any of the monkeys seem interested in Singeus?

Mousie 05-23-2009 05:14 PM

Skeat, is that a hedgehog in your avatar? or did a chicken sit on a midget?
so, guessing you sent the sock monkey pattern to K, or directed her to it, and she did a great job. I had to really look to see if it was real.
He looks like he has his hands on his hips. maybe he doesn't like his picture taken. I got a big monkey, I call hubby, that acts like that

Skeat 05-23-2009 06:28 PM

That is a chicken alright....now which came first...the egg or the chicken or the sock monkey?:) What is it sitting on???hmmmm....maybe big turtle toes..:) I cracked up seeing that sock monkey! Too funny! I had to take a double take too:)S

well, why did you change it, silly? :D
now that I know it's a chicken,...ummm, how come there's a face under it? can it breathe?

Skeat sent me some sock monkey charm squares (among other things!) and being uninitiated, I thought it was 'just' cute monkey fabric - but she put me right and I googled sock monkeys! The other day over brekkie, me Hans and the kids were thinking up different types of sock monkeys we could make - Lily, Princess Sock Monkey, Joey, Indian (Native American) Sock Monkey, Hans - very rude ones that I couldn't describe here! Next time I go shopping, I'll be looking for appropriate socks to make more!

Izy 05-24-2009 04:02 AM

Awwhhh Great pictures you took there K., I swear there should be captions added, especially the baboon holding his head like he is having a hard time, and those Lemurs the way the sit up tickles me pink!! OH and THOSE two cheaky monkeys on that big gorilla are kinda cute too!! Belated birthday wishes for Hans too!! :D

Patti, your so right, seems, no sooner somebody shows something cute or novel, and the whole gang's on it...ain't it fun???
I got a monkey that needs finishing, and he's nekkid. I know they run that way in the wild, but I'm too embarrassed to let anybody see my nekid monkey. he's gotta have clothes, or at least a fat quarter, lol.
If only my daughter would hurry up and teach me how to use this camera. TTFN

LOL...right after I told gbaby not to stick her finger in her nose, as we were watching, "Funniest Home Videos"...
a big gorilla comes on the tv, and he has his big fat finger in his nose!
So, now, she never puts her finger in her nose, and when her 15month old, baby sister starts to do it, Crystal giggles, and copies nana, "Don't be a gorilla! don't put your finger in your nose and be a gorilla."
(thinking your gorilla might have been more amusing than that, but we won't go 'there' )
