I was talking to my dad last nigh, he is generally very pragmatic, but he believes strongly that he has been visited by the ghosts of his siblings who have passed on. I view my self as very science oriented and practical, but I'm not sure if I believe in ghosts or not.

Do you believe in ghosts?

QuiltnNan 06-30-2011 12:27 PM

no

Absolutely!!! Had one when I lived in California play tricks on me. Took a ring of mine from the window sill from across the room and hid it behind the fridge. It took me days to find and I was frantic. So as a last ditch effort I pulled out the fridge and darned if it wasn't hiding in the corner. There was no way it could have fallen and gotten there. She also used to yell and wake me if I over slept. It was an old house and made into apartments and I think she had lots of fun there. Scared the bejeebers outta me at first but got used to her after awhile.....true story!

All Thumbs 06-30-2011 12:43 PM

No, I do not believe in ghosts but angels, yes.

mmdquilts 06-30-2011 12:45 PM

Oh yes! I have seen my share of spirit activity. Children and animals are more apt to see them than most adults. If you open your mind to them you will see signs all over! They are our guardian angels.

AngieS 06-30-2011 12:48 PM

I have heard others talk about seeing them, but I never have. Not sure how I feel about them. I think seeing would be believing though. ;)

hspirit_99 06-30-2011 12:48 PM

yes, i do believe in ghosts. i have seen them and heard them. with that said, if someone does not believe in them that is fine with me, and i am science oriented as well, with a degree in Applied Computer Science. thank goodness we are all different. makes the world go around. :-)

mimom 06-30-2011 12:50 PM

I do

Aurora 06-30-2011 12:52 PM

Yes! I have seen spirits on numerous occasions. Both as a child and as an adult.

ptquilts 06-30-2011 12:55 PM

I have neither seen them, nor heard them, but I have felt and smelled them. I quite often feel a light touch on my hair, when I am sitting or lying in bed. And there are several areas in the house and yard where I get a particular smell (different one in each area). And things fall over a lot. And no, it is not an old house, but it is on a farm that has been settled for over 200 years.

kuseta 06-30-2011 01:03 PM

I do believe in ghosts. I've not experienced any "human" ghosts, but we do have cat ghosts at our house of those that have left our family. I can feel them jump on my bed or lay against me at night and nothing will actually be there, or will feel them brush against me when I'm standing. I find it rather comforting.

Ramona Byrd 06-30-2011 01:06 PM

Yes, my dear Grandma has saved me a couple of times by her voiced comments. She died in 1968, right after my last son was born.

On my DH's last day, in ER, he was in a coma and suddenly woke up and pointed to the side of the room. He counted, pointing, one, two, three, up to nine, then calmly told me that "They are all there waiting for me" then pointed to the right of the room and said that "The rest of them are over there", and then went out again. Nine added up to his parents and brothers who had gone before, and some of his most loved aunts.
When I told the ER nurse, he wasn't surprised.
I had worked with him before so he told me that he saw it often on the last day but no one wanted to hear it so he never said anything except when asked. He said for me to call in the family...he died later that evening.

A couple of days later I was sitting alone in the house and heard him tell me Goodbye, using my pet name only he called me.

fishhavengirl 06-30-2011 01:10 PM

wow, that made me start crying. lost my mom in december and feel her around me a lot.

SparkMonkey 06-30-2011 01:11 PM

I do, although I don't believe they're nearly as common as some others do. I'm very practical, and I will always look for a physical cause when things don't seem right. But there have been times I just couldn't come up with anything.

For example, one time I was standing alone in the back of the balcony of the theatre where I worked, waiting for the audience to clear out after a show. This was an older building that people claimed was badly haunted, but I wasn't sure I believed them. But that night, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and not a second later I very distinctly heard a voice whisper in my right ear. I couldn't make out any words; it was just whispering. But it was really, really spooky and my skin crawled in waves from the top of my head downward. Never liked being in that balcony after that...

I have lots of second-hand stories, but that's the only thing that has happened to me.

ETA: I don't count visits from family members as ghosts. That's more of a spiritual connection to individuals than "haunting," and I fully believe they can pass back and forth from this world to the other. I think of ghosts as spirits that are stuck, the ones who give us the creeps and disrupt our lives.

Your response gave me goosebumps....not because of "spookiness" but because of how similar it is to my experience with my father's passing. I believe in spirits - they take care of us and help us through.....

cjomomma 06-30-2011 01:14 PM

Yes I do!! We have a male figure that walks around our apartment. He opens and closes doors and moves things but he leaves us alone. My kids call him George. I also saw a black cat walk up the hall way rubbing his body on the wall. It got to my room then turned around and disappeared. So yes I am a believer. I also believe in Angels, seen a few of them too.

jean1941 06-30-2011 01:23 PM

I think they are angels but they are here Ramona Bird said he called her his pet name a few days after my DH left after telling me the night before he died that he was talking to James and yes James had gone home to heaven a few years earlier and their were others there also for several days before he left I was awaken from a sound sleep of him kissing me on my neck behind ear which he always did and saying I Love You So yes they are here if we just take time to hear them

1234Irene 06-30-2011 01:27 PM

Yes I do........i too feel my moms presence when I am sewing. She tried many times to get me to sew with her but I never took the time. Now that I have time, she's always around in spirit. Maybe it's why I enjoy it so much........it makes me feel closer to her.

My brother, whom was a night person passed in his house, to this day, the new owners swear to turning the lights off at bedtime, but about twice a month, they wake up to a light being on.........which they swear was not when they went to bed.

redkimba 06-30-2011 01:31 PM

I believe in ghosts/spirits. I have a female entity who lives in my house. Once in a while I can sense her in the room and hear music being played (generally as I am in bed to go to sleep).

I've talked to my mother many times since her death in 1999. I've talked to my paternal grandfather.

I can do this because I believe that I can talk to my ancestors.

Ioftheneedle 06-30-2011 01:33 PM

I don't believe in ghosts. However I do believe in angels and that our spirit lives on after we leave this life.

Twisted Quilter 06-30-2011 01:38 PM

Yep, I believe our ghosts were the previous homeowners, Mr. & Mrs. Barker. I've got a story I could tell about Mr. Barker, but it makes my toes curl everytime I think about it. I've never even told DH that story. They're both gone now...WHEW!

cctx. 06-30-2011 01:43 PM

Ghosts exist, so do Angels.

So yes, I believe there are ghosts and Angels.

Pay attention to your dreams, their messages and warnings are
to be acknowledged.

Jennifer22206 06-30-2011 01:43 PM

I have seen them. And they're spirits. Yes, I do believe in them.

Lisanne 06-30-2011 01:48 PM

I didn't use to believe in ghosts. I can't say I do now, but I accept the possibility. I don't know that I see a difference between ghosts and spirits except in terms of how they behave, but I could be wrong.

I didn't use to believe in spirits, but years ago I worked with a woman who did. She told me she'd prove it to me when she passed on. When she did, I was living in another state and of course working elsewhere, too. I am a little psychic and sometimes pick up on things, as when people I'm close to have died or are going to die. I started having a feeling that a woman had died, but couldn't get who it was, only that her name started with M. (Now I know that psychics aren't kidding when that's as far as they can get with the details.) My mother had a sister and a cousin whose names began with M, but when I'd think of them, I'd get this sense of frustration and wrongness. Understand, I thought these were my own thoughts, not a ghost or spirit trying to communicate with me. I also started thinking of that old job, but I didn't connect it with the feeling that someone had died. Finally, after about three weeks of this, I made the connection and thought of the right woman, and immediately got this huge feeling of relief. I finally realized the feelings weren't mine, they were hers! A week or two after that, a co-worker from that job called me and he told me she'd died, so that confirmed it.

It really makes me wonder whether my "knowings" as I call them are ESP or a spirit telling me. I mean, sometimes they're very trivial things. Example: Once I drove by a store thinking I wanted to go in and get a certain thing, and had a thought, as if a voice had spoken in my head, not to bother, that they were out of the item. Of course then I had to go in to see if I (or the voice) was right, and it was.

What makes you ask?????

Janetlmt 06-30-2011 02:05 PM

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!
I don't call them ghosts, they are spirits. I have had many encounters with spirits of people I know. It is actually a very nice experience.
Peace and blessings,

Murphy 06-30-2011 02:19 PM

Yes.

Deb watkins 06-30-2011 02:20 PM

Absolutely as well. As a child I would have visitors with messages. As an adult I have encountered several, especially in homes that I show (as a Realtor) as well as the fleeting ones in my gardens when I am working in the dirt. Had a visit from my grandfather that he had passed, told my parents (as it woke me up) and they didn't believe me...until the phone rang 30 seconds later and it was my grandmother relaying the news to my father.

raedar63 06-30-2011 02:38 PM

Absolutly! I call them spirits and see them frequently at the hospital where I work. I seen them as a child and then for years I think I blocked it, Then became open again and see them frequently at work. I don't see them in my home And that may be because I smudge my house frequently. I also frequently see nature spirits.
I am really enjoying this thread by the way

manyquilts 06-30-2011 02:44 PM

I do believe also...My grandmother always called me at 10:30 am
on my birthday. She died the month before my BD. Well, on my BD the phone rang at 10:30 am and I said, "Hello".....out came a voice exactly like hers and then a few min. later a voice said Hello, is this...
and it was the library to tell me that my book was in!

When I had my second C-Section, the nurse kept telling the Dr that my BP was dropping more and more. I remember having this terrible pain in my head and then nothing.....Then all of a sudden I saw my DH and daughter looking down at me. Talk about weird....
I asked the Dr about it and all she said was...all went well!

This is a picture of a ghost I took outside my house. I was taking pictures outdoors, when I got a feeling to download them right away. I did not see this when I snapped the picture. I was thinking of my Uncle George who had passed earlier that year.
What do you all think?

Dragonfly Nana 06-30-2011 03:30 PM

In a word - yes

DebsShelties 06-30-2011 03:32 PM

yes

dsb38327 06-30-2011 03:34 PM

Yes, spirits.

Kooklabell 06-30-2011 03:37 PM

Absolutely. I have many stories. I too am a scientist by education/career. But, like many things in science, once they were a mystery too. :)

bjeriann 06-30-2011 03:38 PM

I am so glad to hear that alot of others believe in ghost/spirits. I have had them around me all my life. When I was a Realtor there were homes I couldn't go into because of the feelings I would get. I now have 2 children spirits in my yard. They tap on windows or I see them out there, and they really enjoy freaking out my son in law. I'm trying to do research on this property. I love hearing others stories.

grammiepamie 06-30-2011 03:42 PM

I sure do. I had a dobie that hated my ex father-in-law. Just hated him awful. After he died and I was watching tv at night and my husband had already gone to bed that dog would stand at the empty recliner and growl. That went on until we had to have him put to sleep at the age of 13 because of cancer.

Aunt Sue 06-30-2011 03:45 PM

absolutely yes!!

Tink's Mom 06-30-2011 04:05 PM

Very much...
My Grandmother passed away 35 years ago, only a couple of months after I got married. Gram always made date nut bread at the holidays for all the family... It was an old family recipe that she never gave out. Grandpa decided that I should have her cookbooks, since I was a new bride. In it was her recipe, in her handwriting for the bread.
I decided to make it that 1st Christmas and was in my Mom's kitchen mixing it up. Suddenly, I feel her behind me, sitting at the table...and I hear in my head..."don't forget the vanilla"...I couldn't turn around, but out of the corner of my eye I could see her sitting there supervising.
I am the only one in the family that can make her bread taste the way it should...Her daughter and other grands have all made it, but it doesn't turn out like her's...I think she might have something to do with it.

Exactly. I believe in life after death. Spirits are all around us and sometimes we're able to actually see or hear them.
