Right now I am addicted to peanut butter on celery. Every day when I get home from work, I have to have a couple of pieces of celery with peanut butter. I don't why I am addicted to this. Maybe my body is lacking some type of nutrients. I wish this addiction would just go away, too much fat in peanut butter, eventhough I just heard that it has the good fat (is there such a thing).

quiltinghere 10-25-2011 05:09 AM

ohhhhh you mean FOOD - I thought you meant this board! :)

I get addicted to certain foods 'seasonally' only because they're at their best or only available during certain seasons or holidays. Taffy apples, pomegranites, Peeps (only at Easter):), fresh fall apples, vine ripe tomatoes, etc.

More the question is ... are you truly hungry at those times? or are you grabbing something to eat out of habit?

3incollege 10-25-2011 05:25 AM

I love to crunch on ice cubes, I was told that I needed more iron!
Right now I can't get enough of pimiento cheese spread, has to be Kraft in the tiny jars(I have enough juice glasses for a life time).
put it on a saltine and eat the whole jar!

Chicca 10-25-2011 05:29 AM

At the beginning of the month, I had to have Ritz crackers, peanut butter and cream cheese. Talk about calories....thank goodness my Dodger was right there drooling to help eat all that she could. LOL. I do think it has something to do with needing something from a food group...but it could also be something that just tastes really good and we want more.

Cherylsea 10-25-2011 05:29 AM

I call them cravings as they don't seem to last long enough to be an addiction: half sour pickles, gingersnaps, once it was Taco Bell tostadas?! They usually don't last very long for me. I figured they were a nutritional deficiency too.

leatheflea 10-25-2011 05:39 AM

Right now I'm on a salsa sour cream and tortilla chips kick, previously it was Jalopeno cheese and rosemary wheat thins, Oh and lets not forget the baked beens and cottage cheese mixed together I had that for about a month straight. Garlic bread and salad kick for awhile too. Now I dont want any of those just the salsa mixture.....I blame hormones!

I normally do the fresh tomato addiction also, but this year our tomatos didnt do well, maybe that explains my salsa addiction right now?

cjomomma 10-25-2011 05:48 AM

Oh gosh yes!
Right now I've been craving mashed instant potatoes and saltine crackers together. I ran out of crackers the other day and I think I'm about to die. LOL!

Greenheron 10-25-2011 05:50 AM

GwynR 10-25-2011 05:51 AM

GMTA ... exactly what I was going to post while reading all these cravings!! :)

QuiltnNan 10-25-2011 05:57 AM

i see you are almost to your weight loss goal. congrats!!!! what a difficult journey that is. perhaps your body is craving the oils, or maybe the salt in the p.butter and celery. keeping the portion small sure helps... i have learned that. again, Congrats

jaciqltznok 10-25-2011 05:58 AM

sadly I CRAVE things all the time..just can not have them..
but for addictions...in the food dept. cherries Garcia in the tiny cup size....just enough to make a MEAL for me..hehehe

Honeynga 10-25-2011 06:20 AM

My wise grandmother used to say that when you are craving something it is because your body is deficient......I'm not a orange juice drinker, but sometimes I crave oranges or orange juice; sometimes I crave other things that are rich in iron....I think she might of been right.

At the moment I'm eating salsa that is extra hot with no salt tortillas.....go figure that one !

ranger 10-25-2011 06:28 AM

When I get a craving it's usually for salt. Foods that I usually eat to satisfy the craving are bologna and salt & vinegar chips, washing it down with Pepsi. Talk about cholesterol!!
I always make sure these are in the house before I go out for a night on the town. They really help my hangover!

tuesy 10-25-2011 06:28 AM

Yes, I do that same thing..my cravings will last about 2-3 weeks. Last thing I was craving was cabbage.

SEGASAL 10-25-2011 06:33 AM

I crave all sorts of things....usually it is something sweet with something salty.....it is homemade soft pretzels with cheese and chocolate....

raedar63 10-25-2011 06:40 AM

My most recent is super crunchy peanut butter, banannas, and honey on toast sandwiches YUMMY!

Funny you say that ! I've been eating cabbage lately also......had steamed cabbage over the weekend and yesterday I made cole slaw with a vingerary type dressing.....

I never crave chocolate, but if it is salty/crunchy I'm there....even ate stale potato chips the other day !

romanojg 10-25-2011 07:01 AM

there is also a lot of protein in peanut butter; when I did daycare it was always welcomed by the food care program because it was healthy and most kids would eat it. I use Skippy because it has less sugar than most and I love the crunchy. I was always told if you crave something (even when pregnant) it's because your body needs the nutrients in it. My mom has been dead for many years and I hadn't seen her since I was little anyways since dad decided to take us away but even as a pre-school age child I remember my mom eating banana and salad dressing (mayo) sandwiches and I eat them especially when I'm feeling lonely and I always think of my mom when I eat them; that's more of comfort than craving but sometimes that's why we eat; it doesn't always have to do with being hungry. If I could only eat when I was hungry I'd have no problem.

Of course I'm not hungry....I just know, I'm home and its time for my peanut butter and celery. So maybe its more of a habit that I need to break. UGH!!!

Thank you....I don't know what it is but I have to keep this addiction under control before it gets out of hand.

BellaBoo 10-25-2011 07:22 AM

I get on food kicks all the time. Right now it's blueberries mixed with pecans. I ate a bowl of them for breakfast. A few weeks ago it was fire roasted tomatoes mixed with pesto sauce on ziti noodles. I ate it everyday. I seldom crave sweets but when I do it's always cupcakes and that can be dangerous!

BellaBoo 10-25-2011 07:24 AM

I heard if you crave salt your body is yelling at you that something is not right. It's time for lab work!

Too funny Greenheron -.... but if I were, it could be called a miracle. 1st because @ 29 I had a hyestorectomy, 2nd because I'm 77 YEARS OLD! .....BUT if I remember right it takes two to tango & I've been on my own for over 20 years.

ChaiQuilter 10-25-2011 11:28 AM

I was addicted to red licorice (a particular brand) when I was pregnant with my first!

SparkMonkey 10-25-2011 12:18 PM

Don't be afraid of a little fat. Good fats are beneficial and necessary (yes, I said necessary). Peanut butter isn't so bad--though you do want to stay away from sweetened stuff. Sugar is bad news--besides causing weight gain, it can cause a true chemical addiction. All-natural PB, the kind you have to stir up and refrigerate, is much better for you. If you're not allergic to nuts, almond butter is even better for you in terms of good fats (it is a little expensive, but that'll help keep you from gorging ;)).

As long as you don't go nuts and eat half the jar, your after-work snack is not a killer. The protein, fat, and fiber will help keep you satisfied until dinnertime. Keep it to a tablespoon or so and there's no guilt in your snack. :)

I am addicted to Cheez-its.

HisPatchwork 10-26-2011 04:48 AM

I had to have Drumstick ice cream treats for awhile a few years ago. They were on sale and we got into the habit of having one everynight. I had been watching videos at night before bed that had been taped during one of those marathons of a certain program. I would always fast forward through the commercials..got real good on my timing..stopping at just the right time to miss all the commercials and not the show. One time I let the commercials play while I got up to do something. Right there during each commercial break was a commercial playing for Drumstick ice cream treats! I never conciously saw them while fast forwarding through the commercials. Even though I love those treats, I don't have a craving for them at all when not watching those videos.

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 10-26-2011 04:57 AM

Right now I'm addicted to apple cider. I'm on my 3rd gallon.

MS quilter 10-26-2011 05:31 AM

It's ok. The celery negates the peanut butter. Eat up.

sandpat 10-26-2011 05:37 AM

You realize that you actually burn more calories EATING the celery than you gain from the celery itself, so I agree with MS quilter.....eat up! LOL!

3incollege, I grew up on the Kraft olive piment cheese spread in the small jars. They became juice glasses when empty. I make my own now and add pecans to the cheese with olive/pimentos. Yummmmm

quilter68 10-26-2011 06:30 AM

Golden Delicious apples and chunky peanut butter!

nancy59 10-26-2011 07:19 AM

I was addicted to sunflower seads for years, would eat one or two bags a week. Since I had my gall bladder out, I don't want them. I still have a bag here and I am not tempted to open them,
