Yes, that's how you pick lettuce. Just the biggest leaves. I don't strip mine all the way down unless they are ready to pick. There will be plenty of young leaves so I doubt it will all be ready at one time on each plant.
My favorite is black seeded simpson.
If you want to start your lettuce super early, you can built a lid and cover with plastic. I'm getting ready to plant mine this month. It may not grow much, but it will at least germinated.
And I always have first lettuce here where I live. You can water it from time to time also. Don't make the topper too heavy. It's hard to lift off.

I always throw an old window over the pot, to make like a green house, then uncover in the day. Works great!

I've been searching trying to find pics of my big flower garden. I love taking pics. I have tons of different flowers that I have around the house. We have been potting the crabapple trees for years. We have them all over. Around the big pond. Down two sides of our property now. And in the yard.
I just went out a bit ago and I have all kinds of Mexican Firebush seedlings coming up. I love these. Once you get them started, you never have to seed them again.

I have several colors of most of my flowers. I have so many things in my yard. I think I have around 20 clematis, 2 wysteria, 9 differnet peonies I think, 4 colors of crabapples, gobs of different kinds and colors of hostas. So many more varietaries of flowers and things.

We have lots of fruit too. Pears, apples, cherries, peaches, raspberries, blackberries, wineberries. I planted 3 blueberry bushes last year. Hope they survived the winter. I could eat a handful of those raspberries.

As you can tell love my flowers. This is two of my african violets and an episcia. I've won ribbons on my flowers before. Besides my quilt tops.

Thank you! Is there a place to do like a little video. You should see my hummingbirds I have. And I have a video of my one butterfly bush that has butterflies all over it. I have several different colors of butterfly bushes. And I keep finding new ones around in flower beds. They are starting to get as bad as the rose of sharon getting spread.

I have thought about selling some leaves off of my violets. I have some already rooted myself that are already in dirt. I can see little baby leaves on one already.
