Maryland tomatoes and sweet corn

We buy everything we need there pretty much. They even have meat and eggs now (they have a refrigerated trailer). I just can't find the same quality produce at the grocery store. We also like knowing that the profits are going directly to the farmer and his family, not some big conglomerate grocery chain.
Last Friday I bought some of the best strawberries I've ever had and made a strawberry pie. I would have made two pies, but I ate so many strawberries while cutting them up that I didn't have enough! |
Used to be a huge farmers market where I lived. Where I live now, I grow tomato, green pepper, squash, chard, lettuce, cucumbers. No farmers market around here. I sure do miss it

We raised a big garden when I was young, and I "helped" sell the corn and tomatoes, so I know good stuff when I see it. Tried couple of guy's corn yesterday that was at Farmers Market and roadside. Forget roadside. Not even good chicken feed. May call the first guy although he is not the one was looking for. My favorite farm couple was not at the FM, nor do they answer their phone. Wonder why they have it, if no one ever answers it or has a recorder on line. Love his incredible corn.
Unfortunately, my home town is big on ads for FM, and produces very little. Tomatoes...$2.00 and $2.50 a pound. Main grocery store is selling them at $1.99 a pound. Not much variety to it. |
I go every sat. We get whatever we can get our hands on. We are there when they open. It is wonderful to meet our local farmers. I've got several of their numbers and have been to their farms.

We have a garden in the back of our house but I still go to the market for potatos, cucumbers, beans and garlic

Love to go to the Farmers Market. In the spring/early summer love to get strawberries. Green beans and tomatoes. In the fall apples and squash.
