you no longer can fit into but you love them so much you can't bare to part with them. I have a pair of navy blue wedges with a braided skinny rope top. Almost like a basket weave top they are hard to describe but I have never seen a pair since like them and they were so comfortable you could wear them casual or dressy I got them around 1980 and they hardy show any wear. I just wish they fit but I won't get rid of them no matter what.

QuiltnNan 10-24-2011 05:10 PM

the only ones i have that fit that category are my golf shoes. i got rid of the clubs, but still have the shoes. memories....

rusty quilter 10-24-2011 05:11 PM

don't we all have shoes like that?

bjeriann 10-24-2011 05:13 PM

I did till my DGD found and fell in love with them. She's 14yrs. She said they were the coolest shoes she ever saw/ I got them in 1982. So how could I say no.

Up North 10-24-2011 05:14 PM

Yes I do believe I have the shoes I wore for my wedding 40 years ago. They were a low heal as I just got over a broken leg but I think I still have them!! Somewhere is la la land!

bnlmom 10-24-2011 05:15 PM

I have a pair of pink leather granny type boots. I bought them in Toronto on a trip with my best friend in 1987.

carolynbb 10-24-2011 05:15 PM

I have stuff like that. In the past I've felt a little silly keeping things I know I'll never wear or use again...but I am okay with it now. I think it's good to keep some things just b/c you like them so much and the memoriers are wonderful.

irishrose 10-24-2011 05:15 PM

My daughter cleaned me out 18 years ago. I was glad to see my high wedges and a pair of red slingbacks go to a good home. Ankle fusion ends the very high heels.

I SO agree!

Sadiemae 10-24-2011 05:23 PM

I don't, but I have some that are completely worn out and should be tossed.

KerryK 10-24-2011 05:47 PM

Oh yes ... beautiful peach colored pumps! Loved 'em, still do! Don't wear 'em, but I'm keeping 'em!!!

NikkiLu 10-24-2011 05:55 PM

I have a pair of silver stretch GO GO BOOTS - ankle high - from the 60's that I will NEVER get rid of.

Navy Wife 10-24-2011 06:16 PM

I don't have any of those. When I reached the age of 70, I threw away all the shoes that hurt my feet. I really don't care whether I'm fashionable or not! As long as I look nice and I'm comfortable, I'm a happy old lady! That's one of the few perks of getting old.

wolfkitty 10-24-2011 06:21 PM

I have a pair of slippers that my husband gave me one Christmas, that I love. They are a little small and are about to come unstitched, but I love them. That was about 34 years ago.

just_the_scraps_m'am 10-24-2011 06:21 PM

that's funny!
i just gave a large bag of shoes away--
but my favorite pair of suede clogs stayed home...even tho the inside feels like sandpaper! hahahaha

Phannie1 10-24-2011 06:25 PM

I had this pair that was so pretty. White patten leather with a little eyelet detail and a spiked heel. They made my feet look small and danity. I always told my kids I wanted to be buried with them so when I got to heaven, I would have pretty shoes to wear.

BETTY62 10-24-2011 06:28 PM

Yep, my bowling shoes. I haven't bowled in about 15 years. I don't know why I keep those shoes but for some reason I just can't let them go.

KatFish 10-24-2011 07:39 PM

I have a pair of hiking boots from the 80's complete with pink shoe strings. I keep telling DH that I'm going to turn them into a planter but I still haven't.

booklady 10-24-2011 08:19 PM

mine were a beautiful deep burgundy/red color. Heels no less! Just loved them! Finally gave them up after about 5 years of no longer fitting.

booklady 10-24-2011 08:19 PM

same here, finally sold them at a garage sale this month.!

Willa 10-24-2011 08:42 PM

We had my grandma's wedding shoes (1917)

meemersmom 10-25-2011 02:11 AM

I have an old pair of Bass Weejuns that my mother wore while she was in college and I wore in high school. They still fit me!! They've been re-soled a few times but I still wear them. I have one pair of black suede kitten heels that are just a smidge too small, but they were when I bought them. They were too cute to pass up, and I only had to wear them once.

Lindsey 10-25-2011 02:15 AM

no I don't have any shoes left like that. I got rid of almost all of my old shoes. i was starting to feel like a hoarder. In fact I don't think I have many heels left at all either. I walked so much when I worked that I hardly ever wore heels and now can't stand to wear them.

merchjag 10-25-2011 02:50 AM

no=I hate buying shoes-I wear them until they wear out =buy a new pair and toss the old ones.

MaryKatherine 10-25-2011 02:52 AM

Cowboy boots from the Calgary Stampede.
I wore them for 20+ years. They're still perfect. But my knees bother me now with any suggestion of a heel.

I still have my saddle shoes from high school, which was only 41 years ago! My wedding shoes from 40 years ago and a pair of red, white and blue suede with cork soles from college that would be 40 years also. OMG!!!!

dhanke 10-25-2011 03:43 AM

I still have my wedding shoes, we've been married 32 years now. They are too small by half a size, but I couldn't bear to think of getting rid of them!

Ginger2010 10-25-2011 04:10 AM

I still have a pair of soft house slippers that my mom gave me for Christmas 1989. It was the last Christmas that I had with her. She passed away Mother's Day weekend in 1990. Shoes are still in good shape, though!

Pegleg 10-25-2011 05:23 AM

You could repurpose them by making them into bookends or a pincushion. Use your imagination. They can still be out and used. And you can enjoy once again something you so dearly loved.

Caswews 10-25-2011 05:30 AM

nah.. between daughters and grand daughters my shoes are pretty well down to what I wear daily and during the summer months. 1 pair of good tennis shoes (leather) and one pair of sloppy tennis shoes for the work outside around the yard etc..and a pair of sandals..wait I almost forgot my tazmanian bedroom slippers ! LOL

Donna Hall 10-25-2011 05:38 AM

I have a pair I purchased in Beijing, China sometime in the late '90's. I needed them to play the organ in one of the largest churches in Beijing. I can't wear them now because of bad knees. But I will never get rid of them because of the memories of that day.

jaciqltznok 10-25-2011 05:49 AM

nope...when I lost 80+ pounds..I LOST my fave shoes too...all where too big...and I had a brand new pair of Kenneth Cole black high heel pumps that I just LOVED and only wore once!..sigh same with a new pair of Jessica Simpson heels in gray...they were the kinda of gray that went with everything...only worn 3 times and GONE...

quiltymom 10-25-2011 06:55 AM

Yep I do my old Penny loafers I still wear !!

gramquilter2 10-25-2011 07:50 AM

No, I throw/give away anything that has not been used in the last year except for fabric, quilt patterns, thread....

I wish I still had mine!!! :-)

Honeynga 10-25-2011 08:18 AM

I have always been a shoe lover ! when I was little I was "pigeon toed" and had to wear white high tops on the wrong feet for years...should of had operation to correct it but didn't.......once I got grown and was working I bought all my favorite shoes...all colors, all styles, didn't matter if they were comfortable or not !

Now that I'm older and much wiser, I only buy comfortable sensible shoes, however, I hope to never be without a pair of RED shoes ! Yep, like someone said, that is a perp for being old.

When my children were little I made sure they always had a pair of red shoes; NOW none of them would be caught dead wearing red shoes ! Isn't that funny ?

A few years back I was down sizing and had to get rid of shoes; I think I had 80 pair....mostly were old shoes...had mustard yellow heels; turquoise heels and all in between.....now I have a basic pair of black, navy and red low heels......still love shoes just don't need nor can wear today's styles.

  Now that's what I call hangin' on. I do the same, but mostly with dresses (like the dresses I wore to my children's weddings -- I mean, I'm about 4 sizes larger now and don't plan on being that skinny again). A fuchia quilted satin lounge jacket given to my godmother in 1947. It's still beautiful. I don't think she ever wore it. You're not alone, Honey. Just keep on holdin' on.

I, too, have two DGD's that "vintage" shop in my closets. On their last trip the left with a half dozen of my hubby's flannel shirts, some of my old "Chicago" tee shirts and a pair of knee-high Army-style boots from the 70's.

tenngal 10-25-2011 11:08 AM

I do have shoes that are wearing out and tried to find the same low heeled dress shoe I've always worn - but no luck. Some of us can't wear the new heels.

ChaiQuilter 10-25-2011 11:19 AM

I saved my black suede knee high boots with a stacked heel in my closet. Then my daughter discovered them. I made her promise to never wear them in the rain, and then I let her have them. She also had to listen to the story of how I ran to Macy's on my lunch hour (12 blocks from my then job) and got them on sale for $19.99 - a steal even in those days. She was also impressed that the stacked heel was really stacked - not some phony looking stack.
