Do you have short, long or fake finger nails?

Also do you use nail polish and if so what colors?

I finally got my nails to grow and they are now nice and long, so pretty.

Also my toe nails are long!

I have been drinking more water and milk. I used to bite my nails but no more.

Never fake...had to once for a wedding (I was Matron of Honour)and I hated the feeling of them. If I am good and wear gloves (not terribly often) mine get quite long. I do have a bit of a thing for nail varnish...over the weekend they were glossy black, but often I'll alternate colours or use those little motifs...just for a bit of fun.

Plain, short and clean. when I was learning about hygiene, we had to scrape off under our nails. In a class of mostly boys, the girls with fake and long nails had the most bacteria on their hands. I won't let anyone with fake nails touch me or my kid when we go to a doctor, dentist or hairdresser.

Melinda in Tulsa 06-14-2010 11:20 PM

Long nails, except when they break! I hate fake nails. Used to wear nail polish all the time but rarely anymore. I like to keep my toenails short.

hehe, hair color is natural too. Grey, used to be red.

MegsAnn 06-15-2010 12:27 AM

Short and plain. I work with kids... and am clumsy enough to scratch 'em if my nails get too long.

patricej 06-15-2010 01:28 AM

my nails are real. and so is the acrylic on top that keeps them from breaking.

i keep them long enough to be useful as totally portable quilting tools, but short enough to keyboard.

Quilt4u 06-15-2010 01:38 AM

Mine are just stubs to soft to grow. When they start to grow they split and tear on me, and fake are out of the qustion.

tmg 06-15-2010 02:07 AM

I like mine short and natural. When I was 19 working in a drapery sewing plant I punched a hole threw my right index finger it went in at the base of the nail and can out at the tip of the finger. The nail doesn't grow the right way.

fabric-holic 06-15-2010 02:46 AM

Mine are short (just past the tips of my fingers) but I do wear clear polish. My toenails are short short short! As soon as there's a teeny bit to clip, I do it.

sunflower126 06-15-2010 03:24 AM

I wore acrylic nails for about 10 years. Then I retired and it seemed like a real waste of money and time to spend for no one to see and sewing is very hard on them. So is yard work. They grew back really strong, not too long because I can't type and no polish. Don't have the patience to sit and let it dry as long as it should.

CarrieAnne 06-15-2010 03:46 AM

I have ugly short ones. Between waitressing, ( we use harsh junk to clean), gardening, working around here, mine look so ugly!
My bosses wife has hers done every week, with diffrent polishes....so pretty, just not me, I wouldnt want to spend the money, and I would ruin them anyhow!

sueisallaboutquilts 06-15-2010 03:51 AM

My nails are natural and almost always polished. It's a little treat I love doing for myself :)
The best top coat out their is Seche Vite- makes nails dry super quick and shiny too. Most salon stores sell it, also CVS. I never use any other top coat. Also use a base coat- my preferred is Sally Hansen in the gold bottle. Then 2 coats of polish, usually OPI, then the Seche Vite. I can't tell you the last time the color chipped! I keep them on the shorter side. They grow long but I don't like them long anymore.
Love all the colors out there!! So much fun :D
Oh- I do my toenails the same way
As for colors- wow, there are so many!! I love brights and darks, usually. I tend to be trendy with colors. It's just fun :D

clem55 06-15-2010 03:59 AM

I have fake nails. I love them! My own nails were always vrey thin, and I never could have them looking nice, no matter how I tried. I have broad hands and sort of short thicker fingers, not pretty hands at all, and the pretty nails make me feel better about how they look. I don't have them done as often as I should , can't afford that! I try to keep them at an attractive length, not too long. I use OPI polish, Grand Canyon Sunset. It is a soft color that goes with everything I wear, and I always get compliments about the color. I don't have my hair done once a week, so my vanity thing is pretty nails.

raptureready 06-15-2010 04:27 AM

Plain, real and just long enough to look nice (unless I break one) but not so long as to be noticable or to get in my way. Never, ever any nail polish. I tried it a couple of times years ago and felt like my nails were smothering.

Joeysnana 06-15-2010 04:40 AM

My nails are very thin and break constantly. No product seems to help. I tried fake nails once. Loved the look, but couldn't stand to feel them on my nailbed. Now that I am quilting again, my short nails don't bother me at all!

cjomomma 06-15-2010 04:47 AM

Mine are real and long. They are also hard as nails, when they break it hurts. I stab myself with them all the time too, which doesn't make anysense cause I have always had them. I don't wear nail polish except for special occasions. Nail polish turns my nails yellow, yuck. Right now I have 2 that are broken and it is driving me nuts. It won't take long for them to grow back. I drink a big glass of milk everynight and when I don't I notice a change with my nails.

RatherB Quilting 06-15-2010 05:26 AM

My nails are long, but very soft and bendy. I am not sure how they get as long as they do. I don't do nail polish. I work with animals and it's just a pain since I wash my hands 10 jabillion times a day. My toe nails?...my hubby often refers to them as "the flesh peeling daggers." Maybe I should paint those?

Pam B 06-15-2010 05:29 AM

I have fake nails and cannot imagine not having them. I have a standing appt every 2 weeks to have them done. They are not long as I do have to be able to type and use my fingers for work. My favorite polish is OPI Pompeii Purple which is not really a purple (if you knew me, you would realize that I don't go for outlandish colors at all). It is more of an irredescent pinkish color. I also have my toenails done every 6 weeks. Yes, I do sometimes regret the expense of the upkeep of my nails, but I do work outside the home and I feel like it is my treat to myself.

Chasing Hawk 06-15-2010 05:31 AM

It depends, if I am working outside or in the shop (yard work or mechanic work) my nails are short because of breaking.
I usually keep them trimmed just past my finger tips.
I take a B-12 supplement daily to help keep them strong.

I don't wear polish or fake nails, I can't stand anything on my nails. I don't wear makeup either, then feeling and sensation it has on my skin is kind of creepy.

quiltedrunner 06-15-2010 05:40 AM

Fake here...

My nails, as I get older, seem to ridge up down the middle and even crack sometimes. The acrylic stops that from happening and my nails actually look nice. :) I don't do much else and even only have my hair cut every 5-6 months (it's longer), so I feel it's justified. :D

I don't cut my hair either, it's close to 3 feet long give or take a inch or two.

abonda 06-15-2010 05:51 AM

I have fake too!!! never could grow a nail if I wanted to. Too weak and thin. I do not bite them! I have pink and white nails every three weeks. They look very real and I love them. They make me feel feminine and pretty. They are like a french manicure and go with everything. I use my hands for everything sewing, gardening, crafts, cooking, you name it and they still look as beautiful as when I first get them done. To me it is worth the money because I deal with the public all the time and I like to look nice.

dotcomdtcm 06-15-2010 05:56 AM

I get a mani pedi every 2 weeks. Makes me feel girly even in my old jeans. I don't care to dye the gray hair but I love
pretty nails, silk wraps, great colors.

Boston1954 06-15-2010 05:59 AM

Short, short, short. Easier for typing and for putting on the thimble. I used to polish them, but then one would break and I would say the heck with it and cut them all off.

mamaw 06-15-2010 06:18 AM

Plain and short. My health issues effect my nails, they are soft and split easily.

shaverg 06-15-2010 06:28 AM

My fingernails are short and natural.

But can't say the same for my toes. LOL. I like lots of color and love my pedicures.

amandasgramma 06-15-2010 06:30 AM

Mine are short....break and peel constantly- right down to the quick. Last week I was suffering with dry fingers....around the nails was like the Sahara Desert!!!! I remembered a hint I'd heard about. I dipped my fingers in olive oil, put on rubber gloves and washed the dishes (big pans - thing that don't fit in the dishwasher). My fingers looked great for a whole day. So I kept doing that every night....just this morning I noticed my nails are getting longer and looking better than ever!!!!

Favorite Fabrics 06-15-2010 06:49 AM

Mine are short and plain. I don't care to spend the time for "fancy" and anyways working in the garden it would be a waste.

julia58 06-15-2010 06:54 AM

Mine are natural, semi long, sometimes I polish with the nail lacquer. I have never had them done by anyone else. More $ to spend on other things.

mytwopals 06-15-2010 07:06 AM

Like most real men, I keep my nails short.

brushandthimble 06-15-2010 07:09 AM

natural, half way between long and short. I do now keep them on the shorter side, to long and they get in the way with hand stitching. No polish, I tend to pick it off, and would rather spend the time here, or quilting.

granniebj 06-15-2010 08:11 AM

I have long nails, but they only get polish when I'm going out. Just doesn't last with cleaning at two different houses, and who has the time?

Melinda in Tulsa 06-15-2010 08:24 AM

I love nail polish but on me it just chips too badly.

MissyGirl 06-15-2010 08:40 AM

Mine are short short short. That is because I cannot for the life of me keep them out of my mouth. It drives my mother nuts to see me chomping on them. Oh well.

I do so love a good pedi though. I have not had one in ages.

Bevanger 06-15-2010 09:14 AM

short :(

Fake nails cut what she calls sporty which is fairly short. No polish just the gel coat. Makes my nails look nice without flash

mountain-moma 06-15-2010 10:59 AM

Natural,i keep them cut to sport lg.i like pinks and peach nail polish

Pineapple Princess 06-15-2010 11:03 AM

I have really short nails so I can play the violin, and I use very pale pink polish.

TexasGurl 06-15-2010 11:09 AM

I have medium nails (most of the time, working in my flower beds doesn't help much !) I can't keep long nails and can't handle fakes. I like color on my toes but just clear on my nails.
