I abhor painting. I'd rather walk over burning coals than paint even the smallest of rooms. Wallpapering comes next but that's another topic... It nearly sends me off the deep end if I need to paint. My husband isn't much better and therefore this task falls to me. UGH! After tolerating 15 years of the same boring bedroom, I decided enough was enough! Time to make a change. My DBIL suggested a line of paint and since he is a master at painting, I decided to try his brand. Rather than name the brand, I'll give you a hint. It's the name of an animal and there are polar, panda, grizzly, and teddy ones. If you don't know by now, then you don't know your 'bears'. Well, if this isn't the best paint in the world! And, like I said, I hate painting. This paint went on like butter, I tell ya'. Smooth, good coverage, great colour (Warm Earth). This has been so great, I just had to tell you all that I am converted!Good-bye drab, hello 'Bear'.

I love to paint...and I love how things always look so crisp and fresh when you are finished. :)

amma 10-17-2010 03:02 PM

Thank you for the info! I do like to paint :D and will remember this brand in the future :D:D:D

Ya, except me! I'm covered from head to toe in paint LOL!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 10-17-2010 03:03 PM

The type of paint you use really can change the experience. Good paint, like good fabric, is nicer to work with.

kylenstevesmom 10-17-2010 03:04 PM

Wanna come over???? I just live down the QEW,and I've got a whole house that needs to be done!!!

Was Behr pricey?

I'm glad your painting experience was better than you thought it was going to be!!!

I have used a paint that has the first name of Mr. Franklin and the last name that rhymes with 'boor' and I bought their highest quality. It had an 'aura' about it. Compared to the teddy bear paint, Mr. B. Boor paint pales in comparison.

lisainmo 10-17-2010 03:07 PM

Behr paint is one of the best paints also, I also used the stain and water resistant on my deck and fencing this summer works great! Its worth the money I think.
And YES I know what you mean about having it all over you!! LOL

julie 10-17-2010 03:07 PM

Behr is more expensive, but so worth it. I used it in our bedroom also, it went on with great coverage. Didn't even need a second coat. On the other hand, the cheaper paint I used in the living and dining room was a pain in the *** to use. 2 coats, over white walls at that, in some places 3. Behr cleanup was easy too, not so much the cheaper stuff.

You mean 'BEAR' paint, right?LOL My Home Depot had a special with a $7 per gallon rebate. So, I got their premium plus- the one with primer and colour in one.

As far as going to Oakville, I'm there every Wednesday to babysit at Bronte and Dundas. Can't watch kiddies and paint at the same time, sorry, you're on your own (again LOL)

Jingle 10-17-2010 04:29 PM

Your brand of paint is the best I've tried. Painted my dining room with it several years ago and still looking good. Good paint is worth every penny you pay for it and won't need repainting until time to change color.

mollymct 10-17-2010 04:47 PM

I love to paint!! I love what a fresh color can do for a room. I like to paint alone, listening to music or an audiobook. Mindless and instant results!

carolaug 10-17-2010 05:11 PM

I love to paint!!! I use Sherwin- williams - what a huge difference good paint and paint brushes make. I use to use bargin paints at Lowes or home depot...no more...you can still get Sherwin williams paint cheaper just ask for their oops paint. I get lucky and pay a lot less. But I would pay more if they do not have the color I want. Oh...and I paint everything...all the time...I love how different a room looks!

sueisallaboutquilts 10-17-2010 05:40 PM

I'll hire all you "love to paint" ers for a painting party at my house. I hate to paint!!!!!!!! :D

littlehud 10-17-2010 09:13 PM

I hate to paint too. I'll try that brand the next time I get up the nerve to paint.

raptureready 10-18-2010 12:51 AM

I can't climb ladders anymore or get down easily but I like painting and LOVE hanging wallpaper. My aunts taught me to hand wall paper when I was about 13---back when my job was wielding that 20lb paste brush---to get to lay down that brush and actually put a piece of paper on the wall was heaven. Okay, it didn't actually wiegh 20lbs but after an hour or so it felt like it.

dgmoby 10-18-2010 02:00 AM

I LOVE to paint! I like the feeling of looking at something I did and seeing the transformation - in a really short period of time. And it so changes the atmosphere in a room.

Funny this topic should come up...guess what's next on my agenda? Painting my bathroom! Just deciding on colors now :) It really needs freshing up.

I love to paint. And I need to redo my den for the longarm biz to make it brighter. It currently had a yellow base color with a tan/brown t-shirt 'texturizing' technique on it. I really hate to cover that up, 'but ya do what ya have to do'.

Amen to disliking painting. I will have to try and find your "bear" as I have a project in the works and was dreading the painting part.

Charlee 10-18-2010 05:28 AM

I love to paint, hate the prep!!
This place is so ready to be painted tho...it's been 7 years of living with "warm cream" walls...basically pale yellow! :P Yellow is NOT one of my favorites...I'd rather have plain white!!

damaquilts 10-18-2010 06:43 AM

I love to paint. I use to paint my rooms at least once a year. I get bored easily and its a cheap way to change things around. When I move in with my brother he is going to let me paint my own room. I can't imagine what he would come up with. Something blue no doubt. I am in a green phase right now. :-)
Of course when I paint I have to make a new bed quilt and new window coverings. <G>

aorlflood 10-18-2010 06:46 AM

I love the Behr paint with primer...it is WONDERFUL! Good coverage, smooth to work with!

puck116 10-18-2010 06:48 AM

My husband will to the walls and ceilings because he can use a roller for that. I have to do all the cutting in and the trim because he doesn't like that part. Well, guess what, I don't either, but I have a little more patience than he does.

Catherine Marie 10-18-2010 07:09 AM

I have so enjoyed the responses. Makes me feel like I'm not alone in the 'I hate to paint' crowd. Another reason painting is so hard is that is makes my carpal tunnel act up. I actually end up dropping the brush- full of paint! So, lots of tarps and rags whenever I do this.

Lori S 10-18-2010 07:35 AM

I just hate painting.. love the clean look when done ... but I 'd rather have a root canal.... or rip out lots of seams.... or peel potatoes... or ....well the list is pretty much endless.

starlight 10-18-2010 08:13 AM

I hate to paint but DH needs motivation so I usually start the project and have him come and see my work. Of course I am doing it the hard way so he takes over. There is a method to my madness.

quiltinghere 10-18-2010 08:31 AM

Love to paint ... hate the amount of time it takes from "oh I'm going to paint" thought to actually opening the can to paint.

There's cleaning out the room and wiping everything down, moving furniture, fixing anything wrong with walls. Not to mention putting things back into place.

Also enjoy doing it when there's not an immediate deadline...like tomorrow!

TexasGurl 10-18-2010 09:08 AM

I actually LOVE to paint (except maybe ceilings!) It's the prep work that I dread ... cleaning, caulking, spackling ...
I love seeing what a change a new color brings to a room. I"ve used just about every brand there is and I have my favorites - but any good quality paint will always give much better results.
Quality BRUSHES and rollers are JUST as important as the paint ... Don't use the cheap stuff :)

Linda1 10-18-2010 09:37 AM

I hate to paint but I love the look after it is done.

teri295 10-18-2010 09:43 AM

This is so funny that you mentioned painting - I just finished two rooms this week-end. I ADORE the "bear" paint....and have only used that brand for years. A decorator chose a color from the upscale Ben M...collection, so Home Depot matched the color in "bear" paint exactly. Home Depot has a computer program that does the matching for them. It doesn't drip and does a terrific job in just one coat....now back to sewing!

wootie hoo!!!! I just bought a gallon of one color and a quart of another....for the very first time, bc it was reccommended in Consumer Digest and I needed to paint!
You have made my day, girlfriend! YIPPEEE!!! :-D :-D :-D

Moon Holiday 10-18-2010 12:57 PM

Not only do I love to paint walls, but I love Behr paints!!! It's the only brand I use.

I am the painter in this house too if I want it done without paint all over the place. The only place that gets paint on it is me. My hair, arms, everything I tell you. But, I do pay more for Behr because of the one coat. I had to paint the kitchen twice becaue I "saved" money and it was still needy. So no more cutting corners.

VernaL 10-18-2010 03:36 PM

Years ago when we painted out house inside and out, B. Moore was rated the best in Consumer rpts and we loved it. It was great. But, we are getting ready to repaint the outside and Behr was rated best in CR. So far, we have painted one wall with it and it is great too. But, the good job with BM years ago really held up very well and it is making this repainting effort a little easier. The BM was on for over 20 yrs! I think over the years, paint formulas change, but the prices just keep going up.

I just spent Saturday on the ladder priming the underside of the overhang. (Winterizing) Even though there was good ventilation I got nauseous and headachy. First time that has happened. As for the Behr paint - it is wonderful. We tried the Lowe's brand once and cursed all the way up and down the walls. What a difference.

mrsjdt 10-18-2010 07:49 PM

Oh thank you. Have been considering that type as I have 2 bathrooms to do. You just cinched it!!!

TexasGurl 10-19-2010 05:29 AM

I'm going to have to try the new Behr with primer - I've used Behr in the past and had good results, except with enamel for trim. And that could have been due to the prep (hubby !)
I really like Valspar Premium (Lowe's) I'm using it in our "renovation" and we love the results. We've done 4 rooms so far. I know people who won't use anything but Benj Moore or SW ... it really all comes down to the prep, quality brushes & your application
:)

I love Behr paint too, get it at my local Home Depot. Of course there are other good brands of paint but why change when I'm so happy with Behr.

I used to do all the wall painting, wall papering and furnitue refinishing in our house but age has caught up with me. Can handle the painting part but the moving of furniture and going up and down the ladder is what has done me in. Anyone with lots of energy can come over and paint my kitchen, living room and downstaris hall way. Only one coat of Behr's paint will do and I'll provide the free lunch. How does sausage and peppers on fresh, crispy Italian bread with a nice salad, or my special French Spring soup with a sandwich? May in Jersey

redkimba 10-19-2010 05:57 AM

Behr is my favorite paint. I love how one coat does wonders. I need to finish up the projects I started. I will do that when the weather stays cool.

If you keep an eye out on Home Depot ads, they will run sales on the Behr paint.

marmalade 10-20-2010 08:01 AM

We need to paint a couple of rooms at our house & I had planned to buy the "grizzly" brand of paint , simply because you can get it with the primer already in it. I do have a question though for those who have used it. I have a fairly dark colour in my bedroom - dark raspberry. Will a lighter colour in this paint cover in 1 coat or will I still have to do the 2 coat thing? One coat I can handle, 2 overwhelms me...
