Still have some here in Louisiana
Haven't seen any for a week or so. Not sure if they're confused by the weather as it's back up to almost 80 degrees here for the next few days. Every time I see one I get excited like the first time. I think I only saw purple ones this year.
I read about their migration and it certainly is amazing! I wish I could see the Oriole again. He was (I assume it was the male) SO colorful!! |
We saw one tonight (10/8). It looked so small, must be a baby.
We still have ours and in addition to the feeders, they really like blue salvia.... next year we are going to plant more of it.

We still have a female or two coming to our feeder out at the cabin in northern Gillespie County, about 5 miles from Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. But as far as here in Austin, I have not seen a one since summer. Nearby Dripping Springs word was that they have been gone for about 2 weeks now.

My last one left on September 28th. I used over 35 lbs. of sugar this year. A record for me. It was such a joy watching them all summer long.
Our humming birds are gone as well !
We still have a few that will stay the winter...Coos Bay, OR.
We had a lot during the summer. Right now, there's one that's still hanging around the feeder. I would have thought they would all be heading south by now!
Mine have been gone for 3 weeks & then this week I had 2 for a couple of days. I guess they just stop by for food & rest before heading their way south. I just put the last of my food in feeder & will leave it for a few days just incase I get more guest. I sure will miss them over the winter.

We have lots, estimating over 100. Come back every year. I think we must be in the migratory path. Had 11 feeders, added some this year. Refill every other day, some days, every day. We have only a few now. I would say under 20.

I have loved the stories of the hummers! I went through 40 four pound bags of sugar this summer, filling my 6 feeders twice a day, making sugarwater every day. Thank goodness I purchased sugar last November when it was on sale for $1.49 per bag. A couple of weeks ago my market had sugar for $1.78 (regularly $3.49 per bag) for a 4 pound bag with a limit of 4, so hubby, son and grandkids helped me purchase 57 bags bags during the week long sale. I sure don't want the hummers to go hungrey next summer!
We had at least two hitting our deck feeder out back here, but haven't seen them for several days now. Not sure if they have left or what... Love watching them!.....
We haven't seen any for a week and a half here in tip of SE Iowa.
I just saw one ,( baby ) this morning before I went to church and then again another one after I got home.
Ours are gone..; ( I miss them. We had a lot of them this year.
Have't seen a hummer since 9/17. Baltimore Oriole left 9/8
I still have hummingbirds. Live right across the river from the Arch in St. Louis. We did not put any feeders out but they came and drank from our flowers all summer long.
They are still hitting mine here in West TN but you can tell they are starting to slow down a bit. I think I will put the feeder up this next week and let them find their way back to Mexico and have a good winter there. Although the local paper stated we have a few species that stay here all winter and they encouraged you to leave your feeder out. I might look into this but I would hate to freeze the few that need to go home because of the feeder still out.

Here in Central Illinois we had our big group leave about 10 days ago. Now we are just getting 2-3 each day. We assume these are the migrating birds heading south. We always leave our feeders out at least 2 weeks after we see our last one just in case there are any stragglers!
Just saw a couple yesterday - thinking maybe I should refill the feeders?
Mine have been gone for over a month. It seems like they really left early.
Ours left about 2 weeks ago....hummingbird websites say leaving feeders out will not keep them if it is time to go, I believe it is the daylight length that triggers the hummers to travel. This years we had 3 coming to our feeder and if I sat real still, I could sit on the porch about 8 feet away, how thrilling. Located in OKC.
Had some until last week. Sure do miss seeing them each morning.
We had them up until a week ago. It's been a very mild fall with just one frost so far. Some of my flowers are still going strong, but most got hit with that frost.
The last date we saw a hummingbird drinking from our feeder was Sunday, 10/16/11. |
