does anybody do zentangle?

I think this might be something I would enjoy. I used to do this all the time when I was kid. I'd just take a blank piece of paper and draw random straight lines and then doodle inside the lines. I didn't even know that what I was doing had a name at the time. But I enjoyed it and think it might be something I'd like to do again. So any advice (especially on books) is appreciated. Thanks

I've been doing tangles for about 4 years. You don't need books. Just go to www.tanglepatterns.com and you'll find hundreds of patterns there that you can download (with instructions on how to draw them), along with links to dozens and dozens of other sites to give you inspiration. Or go to Pinterest and search "tangle patterns". You also don't need the expensive paper and pens that Zentangle sells. Any old paper will do to start, and use a fine-line marker (such as a Sharpie or Micron 03 or smaller). Once I really started getting into it I started buying cardstock from Hobby Lobby in the 4.5x6.5" size. They sell it for $4.99 for 100 sheets, and often have it on sale for half price. Tangling doesn't have to be expensive, nor do you have to do it their way. It's truly just doodling to your heart's content!

yup--for years now- actually took a workshop and certified about 5 years ago- it is my (ohmmm) when I am feeling scattered or disorganized sitting down with a few tiles and a set of micron markers somehow calms things and helps me refocus- then I can go back to being productive. :) visit & sign up for the 'zentangle newsletter' there are always new tangles to try & lots of inspiration- along with supplies...people are even 'zentangling' quilting designs on their quilts now days. :D

I went to a class with a friend who thought it would be fun. She loved it, me not so much. I remember doing the same thing in 5th grade. Our teacher called it mind resting time. She would give us coloring book pages and we zentangled in the lines. We used one of the black pencils that had the string you pull down. We didn't call it zentangle then though. My DD found some of the pages I had saved and framed them for my granddaughter's room.

I tried it but it was so boring for me. I also did it in fabric and made
a small wall hanging. Still didn't like it any better. But lots of my
friends think it is very relaxing.

See how someone with an entrepreneur mind made big$$$$$ with something as old as dirt.......and now has throngs believing it is mind resting........to just sit down and stare out of a window and let yourself settle down can do it too...remember it was called "day dreaming"

As soon as I figure out how to get my fancy machine to work WITH me to FMQ, I want to try zentangles quilting on a QAG. Pray for me....lol.
