This quilt is applique with hand embroidery on top. Lizzie Hands from UK does all her quilts I have seen using this method. It was a very relaxing quilt to do. At present need to put borders on the centre but have shoulder and heart issue which is stopping process at present.
The picture of the whole quilt belongs to Lizzie Hands.

check out the thread "Vintage doily" by mommessy , posted today. She is doing hand embroidery. Her mini quilt is beautiful.

Embroidery is alive and well in Southwest VA. The quilt guild here did a red work class last year. I made this cushion.

I used to do a lot of hand embroidery. I haven't done any in year although I still have a ton of floss. I've been thinking that I'd like to start doing some again. I've always found hand work relaxing.

I love hand work! All of my quilts to date have been hand quilted, and I have a handpieced project "in progress" as well as some English paper pieced hexagons. My mom taught me embroidery when I was about 8 or 9 using stamped embroidery and cross stitch kits. For years counted cross-stitch was my craft of choice. When my girls were little I did some smocking and really liked that, too. Huck embroidery was taught in my junior high home ec class back in the early 70's. Although I haven't done a lot of hand embroidery or cross stitch recently, I will be retiring in a month and hope to have time for more of the crafts I enjoy!

I took a class on Brazilian embroidery. I love it! It is so pretty when you finish it.

Embroidery was my first love in the world of needle art. I still do some, but small projects such as baby bibs that I donate to a hospital. Would love to do more but I do a lot of sewing & crocheting for charity and, as you said, we need longer days. Or at least a couple more days in a week!

Wow, yes! In my area it seems like there are lots of quilters that are doing hand embroidery to include in their quilting. Most pick the Crabapple Hill patterns or similar ones. There's even a quilt shop in the area that seems to specialize in embroidery and twilling--Bits and Pieces in Eudora, KS--although most shops carry some patterns and floss &/or perl cotton.

I do most of my embroidery work by hand and just love sitting around sewing. Love to add embroidery to my quilting too. Framing is getting to expensive now days that I even finish my x stitching with quilting borders and embroidery. You all do lovely work and inspire me when I need a bit of inspiration.
