Does this happen to you?

I got up this morning & headed to the computer to spend a few minutes checking out QB PICTURES section. Noticed DoriDeS's quilt pic (http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...e-t225198.html) and liked it.

Decided to check out similar quilts using Mr.. Google images. While looking at the images, I came across
a quilt pic and the geometric designed intrigued me so, of course, I visited the website to learn more about it.

Turns out the quilt design was a representation of the Fibonacci numbers. Fibonacci? who's that?

Headed to Wikipedia to learn more and ended up veering off to read about Lucas numbers and the Golden Ratio.I learned that the Golden Ratio is used for quilting (among other things) to get the best ratio in rectangular and other quilt designs. I also learned that there are books of puzzles that are based on the F. Numbers.

Since I love puzzles, both pencil and jigsaw, I google "puzzles' and find JigZone (http://www.jigzone.com/) website. I've been there before but hadn't visited for a long time.
There I spent the best part of an hour doing an animal jigsaw puzzle. So my few minutes of computer time turned into quite a bit longer than that.

This is why I have so many quilt UFOs. Good thing I'm retired!

Does this sort of thing happen to you? The internet is addicting...at least it seems that way to me!

QuiltnNan 07-06-2013 05:32 AM

LOL sounds like my day :)

ckcowl 07-06-2013 05:35 AM

i learned a long time ago when I am going to get on the computer- but want to accomplish something today too- I set a timer for 45 minutes---my kitchen timer has a 1 minute warning beep- I get on the computer- when the 1 minute warning beeps I know I have 1 minute to wrap up what I am doing & shut down- when the timer goes off (it drives me crazy-doesn't stop til I get there) I shut it off & move on to another activity. I may go back to the computer later *setting the timer again*...i'm sometimes referred to as 'the timer queen' :) I set timers for everything- when I 'm quilting I set a timer so I don't get so involved I spend way too much time & forget to stop & eat...or work til i'm so sore I can hardly move. timers help me get things done. :)

barri1 07-06-2013 05:35 AM

Ask me why I was running late trying to get out of the house.. Jigzone.. I'm not retired.. I'm just running late.. ughhh

sue z q 07-06-2013 06:04 AM

Had to try the jig zone. Cool. And, yes, happens to me all the time. It's kind of disappointing if it doesn't happen.

Tartan 07-06-2013 06:09 AM

It is wonderful to have a world of knowledge only a click away. Of course one click leads to another and another and.......there goes the morning.:D

alwayslearning 07-06-2013 06:12 AM

Just think of it this way, you could have turn on TV and probably not only learned nothing, but also not learned a thing while having fun. Actually sounds like time well spent to me!

mighty 07-06-2013 06:43 AM

Yes, I find the internet has taught a lot!!!!!!!

GrandmaPeggy 07-06-2013 07:47 AM

Yes....it does. So, is that a problem? If so.....why? Sounds perfect to me. We were able to live long enough to retire. We have enough sense to use the computer and do internet investigations. We also have health enough to be up, doing what intrigues us....still having curious minds. We like to learn. Shall I go on?

Central Ohio Quilter 07-06-2013 11:14 AM

Yes, that sounds exactly like what I do when I get on the Internet! I love it, but it drives DH nuts because I spend so much time on it. He doesn't have anything to do the net or computers.

tessagin 07-06-2013 11:22 AM

Yep! Everyday. That's why I get basics done and plead the 5th.

Elise1 07-06-2013 12:58 PM

Add me to the list.

I love the jigsaw puzzles here. http://www.jigidi.com/?cat=0&dif=0

I'm in love with fibonacci and the Golden Mean (ratio)! Fascinating stuff, huh!
No wonder I go to bed at 3am and wake at 11am and don't seem to get anything else done! But my brain is much more curious and interested now than it was 50 years ago.:D

Stitchit123 07-07-2013 06:15 AM

So far I've been sitting here for 2 hrs telling myself I should get up and do some cleaning while its still cool but every one here has sent links I just have to check out. My baby brother showed up bright and early and asked why my dishes weren't done. I blamed the ladies from QB : ) --my dishes are now done and if I turn my chair just a wee bit I no longer see my dusty floors. After all it is Sunday

rosiewell 07-07-2013 08:06 AM

yep it's like computer ADD, you go from one thing to the other and then forget what you started searching for to begin with!

sewbizgirl 07-07-2013 08:26 AM

The Rabbit Trail!! One can get totally lost...

quiltinghere 07-07-2013 08:29 AM

Yep! do it all the time - hate it when I do...must remember to try the timer trick...

Nan

Thanks a lot for the link to the puzzle website...now I have another distraction I have to cure myself of. I give up on that Candy Crushers game.

KwiltyKahy 07-07-2013 08:38 AM

ALL THE TIME. I am addicted but not interested in a 12 step program!!! LOL

ube quilting 07-07-2013 09:46 AM

Yes! And you made me do it! I just had to follow you to the puzzle site and do the daily puzzle, now I have it booked marked. Thanks a lot!:D
peace

This sounds like a get idea. I get lost in serendipity trips on the internet all the time. I am just curious...not a bad thing, but time does fly by.

Nammie to 7 07-07-2013 12:07 PM

If I get on the computer during the day (like now) I tend to waste most of the day - if I wait until evening then I can spend an hour or so knowing that I have accomplished much more during the day.

lynnie 07-07-2013 01:25 PM

happens all the time, I think that's why we're smarted, always looking up things and such

mstalnaker 07-07-2013 02:12 PM

We all got a lot more done before the internet. It is good for a lot of things though.

Greenheron 07-07-2013 03:27 PM

LOL, when I was a Girl Scout (long, long ago) one of my Senior projects was volunteering at the County Library. My job was to "read the shelves"---to check the Dewey Decimal numbers to keep the books in order. Most Saturdays I didn't get very far because there were too many interesting non-fiction titles right at my fingertips. Now I don't even need to go to the library, the keyboard is at my fingertips.

onemoe 07-07-2013 04:25 PM

have the same problem

Girlfriend 07-07-2013 07:19 PM

OK, I just spent a good amount of time on the jigsaw puzzle website.....like I need more websites to distract me.

At least I wasn't spending money on the fabric websites LOL.

jeanharville 07-07-2013 07:57 PM

That is me exactly. The internet is like living at the library with a huge museum attached all from my recliner. It just doesn't get better than that. Quilting is my physical activity :D

I need to do this! Sooooo much wasted time!!

Mornigstar 07-08-2013 08:57 AM

I should learn to do this reading at night and work more during day.

conniemaried 07-08-2013 11:28 AM

After having company for the long holiday weekend I got behind on my emails. Told my DH after breakfast this morning I was going to catch up on my emails, and he replied, "There goes the day!" He can't understand how one site leads to another. I find it fascinating!

Rose_P 07-08-2013 12:39 PM

I have been down that rabbit hole many a time and enjoyed every step. Luckily, I'm not committed to getting anything done on a deadline! It's lucky, also, that we didn't have computers when I was in college. I would have come out with an education, but certainly not the one that was intended. Then again, maybe I would have known myself better and made wiser choices. I hope that's the case for today's young ones.

Sounds like me too, starting with QB and going from there.

Judie 07-09-2013 07:49 PM

Well, I just spent an hour more than I intended on the computer looking at Fibonacci numbers, golden ratio, and playing with jigsaw puzzles.. I love on line jigsaw puzzles.. everything is facing the correct way!! Thanks for the fun.. I enjoyed myself!

noveltyjunkie 07-10-2013 12:26 AM

Sounds good to me. Let your curiosity guide you, and be glad you have it, and the time and means to pursue it.

Cagey 07-10-2013 08:05 AM

My DH is retired and I have an idea that that may be how he spends most of his time. Of course, when I retire next month I'm sure we'll be fighting over the computer.
