Oh how I wish.... he doesn't help with quilting but he has moved a big recliner into my sewing area that he enjoys sitting in.

sewmom 07-22-2011 05:15 AM

I will occasionally ask him to help me with a name. Something simple like that. Since I don't work outside the home,he pays for everything. I really don't want him to start quilting-he would probably be better than means I would have to find a new hobby! LOL on the other hand, he likes gadgets so maybe something new for the sewing room or more space or... Never mind!

Iamquilter 07-22-2011 05:41 AM

He helps me pick out fabric and helps with turning the quilt on my floor frame.

Annaquilts 07-22-2011 05:44 AM

He buys me vintage machines and fixes them for me. He paper pieces scarps onto adding machine paper "making" me more fabric. Helps me plan and design quilting lines. He helps me draw the lines onto the fabric sometimes. Buys me lots of stuff from books, fabric, sewing machines and a dream ironing board. Best of all he is totally supportive of my quilting.

Annaquilts 07-22-2011 05:45 AM

Well it is a start.

Mine pays for everything I want, loves my work, and cooks and does dishes so I have more time. He also never complains about my stuff being all over the house. I do keep it out of his office, tho.

GlitzyMe 07-22-2011 05:56 AM

He sure does.....building a quilt and building a house are pretty similar in measuring, cutting, fitting techniques.....my medium is just more flexible than his.

psychonurse 07-22-2011 05:59 AM

My DH made a quilt before I did. He helps me in all the steps along the way, but mostly I love it when he cuts for me. I do not cut straight and he does.

joyce888 07-22-2011 06:30 AM

I've gotten my DH to mark center lines, finger press seams open, and help with color choices. He grumbles every time but honestly I do it because he thinks everything is so easy. When I finish a quilt he's always saying WE could make these to sell.

fatquarters 07-22-2011 06:52 AM

He drives me to quilt shops and hands me his card, the perfect helper!!!

DorisPa 07-22-2011 06:59 AM

My DH helps when I have a question with colors. I will ask for his imput and he does very well. He also holds up my quilts when I am taking a picture. He also helped with my sewing Room and ideas for it.

sewbelle52 07-22-2011 07:04 AM

Yes, he says everything looks pretty, stays OUT of my sewing room, and holds up my quilts for me to get a picture!
That's about it!

Nan Quilts 07-22-2011 07:14 AM

My DH helps me with the sandwhich part. I don't know how I'd get it done without him!

ShirlinAZ 07-22-2011 08:11 AM

My DH will help if I ask. Mostly I'd rather he stays out of my sewing room, but if he did I'd probably never see him! He tells me when our shared bank account gets low so I know when to stop spending.

Mariposa 07-22-2011 08:45 AM

Nope! He's not involved! Sometimes I wish he was..a little anyways!

Edie 07-22-2011 08:53 AM

My OAO ( one and only) says "Whose that quilt for?" I say "Us!" He says "Good!"

What more can I ask for. He likes them!!!! Edie

My husband picks fabric out for me.

As a matter of fact this is what he picked got me the other day. He surprised me with an unexpected trip to out cute LQS.

kathome 07-22-2011 09:07 AM

Oh, come now.. (that would be a NO)

thismomquilts 07-22-2011 09:15 AM

My husband helps me by sometimes matching fabrics and/or placing them where they should be... and just supporting me in general in all I do with the quilts... he even knows how much fabric I have - and continue to buy! :)

LyndaK 07-22-2011 09:16 AM

Absolutely no help from my husband nor do I want it. Sewing and quilting I do for me not the male contingent in this family. (We have 3 grown sons) There is precious little that they don't poke their collective noses in around here so my sewing space is off limits to all of them.....and they know it!

QuiltnLady1 07-22-2011 09:19 AM

I try to keep my DH away from anything that resembles a tool -- he tried to use the rotary cutter to cut some window film but it worked better if he helped steady the ruler and I cut. He is good about me shopping for fabric -- especially when we travel. He would clean and vaccuum my sewing room (if I let him), but the one time he did it it took a year to find everything (LOL).

Chris Kieffer 07-22-2011 10:07 AM

He tried to help by giving "unsolicited" advice! Ugh....lol! He means well!

Landers 07-22-2011 11:04 AM

Not really Unless you count when he does go to LQS and help me pick out fabric!

grandjan 07-22-2011 11:07 AM

Only by making admiring noises on cue. He's pretty obliging about that. Hates it when I ask him to give an opinion without clues as to what I want to hear. It's pretty funny.

Robinmg 07-22-2011 11:33 AM

My husband helps me out by not complaining when I buy material and quilting supplies or when I am in my sewing room a lot of the time. He seems to be proud of my accomplishments but doen't physically help out. He also does most of the cooking.

quiltmagnet 07-22-2011 12:06 PM

He helps make me templetes, square my corners and once redesigned part of a pattern because I couldn't get a small piece to fit in properly. He knows how to sew but now my hobby is quilting and his is fishing so we are both happy.

Nancy Ingham 07-22-2011 12:06 PM

He helps me in selecting fabrics. I can always rely on him for ideas, suggestions, math and problem solving. He is my biggest fan!!! He even volunteers to do the dinner dishes to give me more time to quilt in the evenings!

Mis. E 07-22-2011 12:42 PM

Yes Hes very with colors and he holds thebatting so I can cut it off the bolt

annyroony2 07-22-2011 12:49 PM

He helps me with colors (even in the stores), he makes templates for me, he made me a barn quilt. He also takes me on fabric buying trips (which hopefully we are going next week).

He's a keeper (48 years)!!!

Prissnboot 07-22-2011 12:54 PM

When my husband and I first started dating, he would pull out the pins and I even taught him how to press the fabric for me. Now I have to call him into the room to play show and tell, but he is always very appreciative of my work, and fusses at me when I'm critical of my work. I just finished my very first Mariner's Compass last night, and the points aren't perfect and I know they aren't perfect, but I'm nowhere near in the mood to fix anything so it looks how it looks, period. I'll cover up the center with a fleur de lis or something like that, but I'm DONE with paper piecing for the time being!

wraez 07-22-2011 01:24 PM

My hubby lets me buy fabric or whatever I want. He is totally supportive of my addiction. It would be really nice if he'd like to start quilting too, even just tiny steps like cutting fabric.

Your hubby is a sweetie!

cr12cats 07-22-2011 01:50 PM

i haven't asked him but sure he would if he could our agreement though is he doesn't work for me and i won't work for him.we both were raised as only children and that just doesn't work. i want it one way and he does everything backwards to me so i can't watch until the end results are in. however from the diabetes my eyes are bleeding (i forgot what it is called ). he will help to get the colors right and take me anywhere i want to shop.and never complains about what i buy or spend, and even carries or lifts whatever i get.ummm---guess he is a sweetie, huh?

grannypat7925 07-22-2011 01:56 PM

Mine will hold them up for pics but that is the limit of his help with the quilts. He is a gracious admirer tho'.

RobertaMarie 07-22-2011 03:03 PM

My DH does everything but sew! He takes care of all the shopping, most of the cooking and chores, runs all the errands and praises my work. Sets up my tables, moves my machines, helps me cut if asked to, and measures for me. Holds up quits for pictures, takes me shopping for fabric, etc. and pays for all of it. I am so blessed it is unbelievable. I sure love this guy. (for over 59 years) ;)

rushdoggie 07-22-2011 03:15 PM

Only if I ask him to help me with something when I need extra hands, and to admire my efforts (even when they are unworthy of actual admiration...yeah, he's sweet like that. :)

MadQuilter 07-22-2011 03:17 PM

Pat is my color coordinator when I'm stuck. He has no preconceived notions about what "should" go together. It's refreshing! He has a comfy chair in my room and spends quite a bit of time visiting.

lukeje 07-22-2011 03:32 PM

Mine will help me cutout my fabric and then gets in floor and helps me sandwich....Keeper..LOL

keesha_ont 07-22-2011 03:51 PM

My DH loves to tell me HOW to quilt - he's never sewn or made a quilt. He does help me put quilts on the frame and of course he buys me my machines. I'm sure he's knowledgeable enough now to make a quilt of his own.

Janet My 07-22-2011 04:52 PM

My DH finds all my mistakes and makes me fix them. LOL He's a carpenter so... when things don't fit together correctly he sees it right away. I still love him though and If I need him to do something for me he just does it.

Heck, he even wants to go to Lancaster, PA so I can visit the quilt shops there.

I'm going to the Hershey Quilt show next weekend with a friend, and he's all bummed out that he can't go. He just had shoulder surgery last week so that kind of trip will not be good for him this time. He can't even lay down in bed yet.

mythreesuns 07-22-2011 05:39 PM

My DH, helps me with any part of quilting...except sewing. He even helps me pin the layers..and looks for fabrics on sale and tells me when they are, looks in the reduced bins etc. He is 100% keeper..
