I don't watch much TV and resisted watching the series- until after Christmas. Watched Seasons 1 and 2 on Hulu Plus before New Years- and Loved it! I think the casting is great, but the writing for the Thomas character is too overtly smarmy for my taste. Dame Maggie Smith is fantastic, even with just a head tilt. I hadn't realized the writer Julian Fellowes is one of the actors from Monarch of the Glen. Never thought I'd enjoy Maureen McGovern, but she's perfect in this. Even the meek little Daisy character is well played. I agree Shirley McLain's character is a bit over the top. It's been many, many years since I liked a series well enough to follow it. An enjoyable diversion from Life.

Just finished watching Season 3, episode 1 for the second time. I just love everything about it. I pointed out to hubby, who watched it with me by choice, that the wedding gown demonstrates what women looked like before bras, which didn't come out for another 15 years after that time. Older women wore corsets, as my granny did until the 1960s, but especially in the 20s, flat was beautiful. I also saw the show before it about High Clere, the actual site of the filming. The couple who live there really have to scramble to pay the bills, including huge restoration of an aging building, by hosting tourists, weddings, parties, etc. But it appears they have a lot in common with their ancestors, though they actually dress themselves, and have a fraction of the staff of the past. I know you can get the whole season on CD, but I love the anticipation of waiting for it every week. VT Public TV shows it on Sunday evening and reruns it on Friday.

Wonder why we are seeing the same first show over again tonight. This makes the third time that the same show has come on?????

Last nights two episodes were great!! Next week is the last of this Season. Their seasons sure seem short!! Wonder if we have to wait a whole year for the fourth season. Darn.
