Our county has an electronic waste disposal once a month. You have to pay so much per pound but it is worth it to get rid of stuff. We had over 500 lbs of stuff, including old computers, TV, paint cans, florescent light bulbs, etc. It cost over $160 but, to me, was worth every penny to finally have that stuff out of the house and garage.

I put mine next to my trash and Waste Management picked it up. I like my new one, it is more energy efficient, smaller size, and heats faster. I'm glad my old one's turntable stopped turning.

I gave up buying expensive microwave ovens, since we only ever reheat or thaw things in it. $35-$45 and we have Been using the second one about 5 years, the first one lasted six years until DH tried to heat coffee in a good trimmed teacup.....just saying, the inexpensive ones are better for your health, than a damaged one. Good old Walmart or Bi-mart are good sources.

There are many places out there that recycle old electronics. Check with Goodwill. I know they take old computers whether or not they work. With the price of microwaves today, it does not make sense to repair one.

Try Goodwill, Salvation Army or Restore. Sometimes you will luck out. Also garage sales. Just saw one at a garage sale last weekend for $25.

After I had my clothes dryer board blow, I had a whole house surge protector installed. Now if anything goes it is covered up to 15,000.00.

DH was a TV repairman for years. Towards the end of his career people quit repairing their TVs because the cost to repair was equal to or greater than replacing with a newer model. It seems to be that way with most electronics.
