Hi all, I just wanted to share this awesome thread holder my sister made and uses. It is inexpensive, easy to make and so very handy. I made 2 in a very short time.
All you need is a box of the snack size Ziplock baggies and 2 of the 2" "O" rings. The kind that open. These can be found at any of the craft stores and most hardware stores. I found mine at the dollar store, my sister got hers at Joanns. Simply punch a hole in each end of the baggie at the bottom, thread the "O" rings thru and then sort your thread into the baggies by color. Here are some photos to show you. the thread holder a rainbow of colors how the ring attaches |
Good Idea:):):)

You can make a large one for all your threads and a smaller one for the current project you are working on.

Wow, great idea, I have mine in zip lock bags already, but in a container. This is great..

How clever

Very clever :D:D:D

Just a word: Paper punches don't work great on the plastic. I found it much easier to use an awl. An icepick would also work.
An old piece of styrofoam packing under the plastic is perfect for protecting the work surface! |
When you are working on a specific project, number the bags with the thread # to co-ordinate with the piece you are working on. I loved this when I do counted cross stitch.
|
Great idea. And I think that as rough as kids are at grabbing things, that I'll first add a strip of clear tape over the bottom of the plastic bags before punching holes in them.
|
What a great idea and I just happen to have those O rings and was trying to think of how to organize my embroidery floss that I already have in the zip lock bags. Thank you!!!
|
VERY clever indeed~!!
Thanx for sharing..... |
Very clever

Good thinking & practical

what a great idea

Great idea! Thank you for sharing it!

A great idea to add the color number for your smaller project one. You could get those stickers for pricing at yard sales and stick them on each bag. Then for the next project, if the numbers change, just add a new sticker over the old one.
Taping the bottom of the bag is a great idea also. We talked about using those rings for notebook pages and decided it was easier to add a new baggie if one got torn. LOL |
Thanks for the great idea!
You could also protect the holes you punch in the bags with those self-stick reinforcements you use on binder paper. |
 :D

|
Ditto....thanks for sharing!!

A strip of painter's tape is a good reinforcement at the bottom also. This also allows you to then use a hole punch.
|
What a clever idea!
|
Thanks for sharing. You could make a mini one out of snack ziplocks for a small project, too.
|
Creative!
|
What a great idea, all your thread is right there to see.
|
Love the idea!

I put my embroidery thread in the racks of drawers men use in thier garages. I have a 60 unit one hanging on the wall of my sewing room. I make a small white card, that will stand up in the end of the drawer and write the # of each color I have in it. It`s eye level on the wall and looks O.K. in my work room.
