The end of 'The Good Wife' ????

Just watched the end of the show and am scratching my head. I have seen many shows end but this is very puzzling to me why they ended it like they did. I am wondering if they are starting a new show with Alicia running for Governor of Illinois ? I have always thought this show had superb writing and have been a strong follower since the very first show, but this last one was a bummer to me. What do you fans think ?

Sort of bittersweet on this ending. But, more adult than a happy ending type...going of into the sunset holding hands type of fairytale ending. Was a bit confusing when Will first appeared, but quickly realized what was happening. No, I don't really think there will be a spinoff of Alicia For Governor type series. I will miss the characters, writing on this series...one of the few things that are, in my mind, on an adult level without being trashy.....not much else to choose from lately

I went online to see if there were comments and apparently TV critics seem to think this ending failed miserably. The producers said the show started with a slap and ended with a slap. The ending was really a mishmash of too many confusing things. I was glad to read that I was not alone in scratching my head wondering what the heck happened.

I did not follow that show but I have been reading articles about the ending. I feel for fans of the show who were disappointed. It's kind of like the ending of "How I Met Your Mother." That was so unsatisfying to me that I no longer have any desire to watch the old episodes. I don't need a going into the sunset holding hands type of ending but I do appreciate resolution to a story that's in keeping with what made me watch in the first place.

I am not sad to see it go. I am really tired of all the chaos in so many of the shows. I was done with this one after the 2nd season mid-way. Never watched but a couple of How I met your mother!! I retreat to my sewing room often. Can't really turn to different channel even though DH falls asleep through some of his favorite. Tv is nothing but noisemaker anymore. Not trying to be a downer there are some. I want to laugh not cry. Sunday AFV and the new Steve Harvey's "LITTLE BIG SHOTS' are great. Then I'm done for Sunday.

Hum... I had to have missed the first slap...my take on the slap was there will not be an "All Woman Law Firm" The End

jjs56 05-10-2016 07:33 AM

I was disappointed in the show when Julianne Marguiles decided she was a bigger deal than anyone else on the show
and alienated her cast members. It ended because of her ego and I just have a real problem with Hollywood egos. I won't watch anything else she does.

I did not like it any more after Archie Punjabi's character was written out of the show.

jjs56 05-10-2016 07:54 AM

bearisgray -- The gossip sites said she left because of conflict with Margulies. They hated each other so much that they refused to film together for the last few episodes Punjabi was in.

I thought it was just meh. I too started loosing interest after Archie Punjabi left. I enjoyed watching Alicia change from insecure junior associate lawyer into someone who was fantastic in court. I was disappointed when the story line showed Alicia behaving like Peter. What a waste, they could have gone on to make her into a positive role mode.

LOL I think you have a good point there.

It seemed like they were in such a hurry to end the show they really didn't take the the time to write an ending. My take is that as someone else said she became somewhat like Peter that in the end she was stuck with him. Diana Lockhart was never really a friend anyway so this end of their relationship was not a surprise. Maybe in the end everyone got what they deserved!

todiesmom 05-11-2016 05:29 AM

there seem to be many possibilities for a spin off...who knows...I really liked the show also but it was sort of running out of ideas..I think an all woman law firm would be great without the soap opera entanglements...just the story of each case ...

Geri B 05-11-2016 06:55 AM

well there's a new series...all women investigative type group....CATCH, I think is the name......trouble is, they always end up or begin in bed!

I did did not realize there were ego wars going on in the good wife...but that figures. After so many years on tv, top rating most of the time, ego inflation does seem to be the death knoll. And aging, I did notice on the last episode is beginning to show on Alicia......

now, I'm liking Madame Secretary...lets see how that pans out.

I must be in the minority - I loved this show from beginning to end...and will really miss it....of course I still have Game of Thrones for the time being...

I also had lost interest in this show when Archie Punjabi left. It really became a boring, lack of interest show. I did watch the finale & thought it missed the target too. The writers/creators said the series started with a slap so they ended the series with a slap. Boring. Enjoy Madame Secretary more even though it took me some episodes to really get into it.

I loved the Good Wife but hated how it ended. I always looked so forward to Sunday nights.

The season finale left me thinking - what? Is that it? I guess we are expected to write our own ending.

maryellen2u 05-11-2016 09:37 PM

I loved the show and all its wrinkles. I thought the writing was thought provoking and adult centered. I thought the acting was superb. The finale was just okay for me but I have to whine that I received two phone calls during the show! I saw the slap but missed the dialogue! Oh darn! I sort of like the affair with (can't remember his name). She had raised her family, had a long satisfying career, and with stood some shaming, challenging and difficult times. She deserved a little pleasure! Oh well it is just TV!;)

Wanabee Quiltin 05-12-2016 06:23 AM

I thank everyone for their thoughts. I loved this show and doubt I missed even one episode thanks to my wonderful TiVo. I saw a video of their after show wrap party and Julianna Margulies looked stunning. She was wearing a wig and they aged her quite a bit for the show. Now her hair is long and her face is stunning. I think the aging was perfect because she had an incredibly stressful life as The Good Wife. The show was always intended to be completely about her, everyone else was background.
