Be sure to remind that son that he's not allowed to ride in sandals!!!! And to remember two things while he's on the road:

Drive like everyone in a car is going to try to kill him before he gets home.

And he has people depending on him to make it home in one piece.

We both rode for many years and our kids were brought up with motorcycles. My husband had a sidecar on his and I pulled a camping trailer behind mine. Our three kids took turns riding behind me, my husband and in the side car. Every fill up with gas, they would play musical chairs to change seats. We had a good time with them. My husband taught me to ride, he said "Drive like everyone else is out to get you, and you will be a lot safer". One close call was when a 18 wheeler ran a stop sign in front of me and I had to lay my bike down and watch the wheels of that truck very close to my head. It was scary but did not stop my riding. Gave them up several years later.

Oh, thats a pretty bike....My DH sold his many yrs. ago and just recently wanted to get another. We bought one about 2 yrs. ago and it mostly sits in the yard under a tree where he can admire it, clean it, oooh and awww over it. I think thats a great spot for it! :wink:

Bikes are so hard to see when I'm driving. Just the other day, I could have pulled out in front of one, seeing it at the last minute(or second). Tell them to ride carefully!!

My DH has one, my DS has one. I still worry. I think its just our nature. I know both of them are very careful, but its not them I worry about, its the others. Both wear helmets and are fully clothed but....that does not stop my worrying over it. I used to ride on the back of DH but the older I get, the more I like the comfort of my SUV.

I know the love your son is feeling for that motorcycle. My DH and I toured Canada in the early '70's on them. We both wore 'bubble' shields on our helmets that we tinted so when we pulled in to stop somewhere we always gathered a crowd when they realized that I was a woman riding my own bike. I guess it was not very common 'in those days'. I said a prayer for the safety of your son, I know what it is to have your children ride.

My dear husband, who is much older than your son, just did the same thing. In February he called me and told me what he did. Well, to make a long story short, I just got my cycle license and I a Kawasaki. I haven't been out on the road yet, but I can feel the urge very soon. I didn't think at my age, that I would be venturing out into the cycle life. I'm willing to give it a try. He keeps talking about this certain Harley that he knows I would just love. My only problem with that is - spend that kind of money on a cycle, or - buy the sewing machine of my dreams. Which do you think I'd get more use out of...my point exactly!
I'm sure you raised him to be a safe person. Just trust in him and say a few prayers.

Oh dear. I´m so glad my 3 sons never had a bike! One of my brothers fell asleep on his bike while on his way home, hit the back of a car and was in a coma for over 2 weeks. It´s been my nightmare ever since I had my boys.

I BEGAN RIDING IN THE EARLY 70'S. A WOMAN ON HER OWN BIKE WAS UNUSUAL AND EVEN ONCE, AN OFFICER STOPPED ME JUST TO ASK IF I KNEW HOW TO 'HANDLE THAT BIG MOTORCYCLE'!! AS LONG AS TODAY'S RIDERS HAVE ALL THE SAFETY FEATURES (CONSTANT FLASHERS) AND DRIVE WITH CARE, CHANCES ARE THEY'LL BE JUST FINE. I'D NEVER GIVE UP RIDING!!

My husband and his brother have grown up with motorcycles. BIL use to even race them. Now they both share a Harley together. I think that this is their mid-life crisis. They both are very careful but it is not so much them as it is the other guy that does not see them.
