My grandson has a spread I made for him when he was 7. He is now 18 and still uses it daily. It is 100% walmart fabric. The binding is fraying, but other than that and some fading, it is in reasonably good shape.

I buy most of my fabric from SR Harris. They are a fabric warehouse here in the Twin Cities, and have 2 locations. They sell their fabric for 50% off the marked price, which is usually $12.99 a yard. So most of my fabric costs me $6.50 a yard. They also have a sale section which is usually $3.99 yd with no additional discounts. I've never been disappointed.

Charley - Interesting that you find that! Living in London everything is dearer haha. I didn't know about the price which is why I asked but we definitely have less choice in terms of charm packs/jelly rolls/layer cakes/ kits although this is improving. Fabric by the metre we may have more choice but I don't think it is the same way as the US - paper crafting was the same10 years ago (I have a lot friends in that crafting world) and now we have more choice at good prices as American companies began to sell directly over here. Hopefully quilting will take off in the Same Way!

Moda are good online for fabric and others you have to know what you are buying and not get the thin horrible stuff (both me and mum have been caught out before). Hobbycraft are improving their offering as you say.

I am going to Florida end of Feb, I go every year and always bring back loads of fabric, even with the dollar exchange not great, it’s still cheaper than UK. We go to Florida and travel around lots of different places and I check out quilt shops, Dunedin Rainbows End I spent about 4 hours in there and bought lots, also managed Expo in Lakeland oh my gosh I picked up lots as well. Joanne’s I find good for notions. In the last couple of years Moda has really increased in price in UK, layer cakes and Jelly Rolls used to be £29.99 now £42.99.

Fabric in quilt shops here run at £12 upwards. The Fabric Quild in Leicester has good prices and does do on although limited range. I also buy fabric if I visit US. I like Connecting Threads fabric and they do free shipping to UK if you spend over $75.

Yup, it's a little over 3" more and that does add up.

Forgot about Connecting threads use them a lot, email the other day they are now stocking Libert fabric. Orders arrive in about 7-10 calendar days and delivered in UK by Hermes.

I purchase lots of fabric from WalMart. It is convenient, affordable and some is very good quality.
