MrsH2008 01-31-2012 07:20 AM

I'm in again this month. I have about 50 pounds to go! I need a pedal sewing machine.

blondeslave 01-31-2012 11:54 AM

I'd like to give it a go.

Beachbound 01-31-2012 01:12 PM

I'm going to be a cheerleader this go round. The house is on the market & I find I have less & less time to spend online. It's only been listed for a few days & already we've had 1 cancel on Sunday & today someone just showed up in the driveway and wanted in. Bummer about those breakfast dishes in the sink!:p

Anyone wants to take over the Taboo Tuesdays? Pam???? I hope y'all did well with fast foods last week. This week let's watch out BUTTER intake. No added extra butter at the table!!!! Groan, this one will kill me!

Quilter Day-by-Day 01-31-2012 04:12 PM

I'm in again.

purplemem 01-31-2012 05:40 PM

I'm in, too! I am still going strong with WW diet, can't weigh in there anymore but the Pulmonary Therapist weighs me every day.

I'm learning to know what a portion really looks like and I was eating for three! And I'm NOT pregnant with Twins!

That's funny. I know what you mean though.

jlwheart 01-31-2012 09:20 PM

I'm in for Feb. I just don't do well on my own. So I'm going to take it one day at a time and commit to do my best to exercise and follow my food program. I like that I can post my progress and get positive encouragement. So for Feb 1st I'm going to my fitness center and workout.

irishrose 01-31-2012 10:32 PM

I'm in, too. It's 49 minutes into February and we have 12 participants. Yay!

Welcome, blondeslave and jlwheart. Welcome back to the rest of us.

February is a wonderful month to be improving our health. I know I keep saying every pound lost is 4 pounds of pounds of pressure off my knees, but it also decreases how hard my heart has to work. Weight loss increases the flexibility of both large and small arteries even without exercise and, of course, exercise helps even more. So every time you see a Valentine this month, use it as a visual to continue to eat well and keep moving to improve your heart health.

Dodie, come back as soon as you can. Your Taboo Tuesdays have been some real eye openers. This week - I only use real butter, but only for cooking, not at the table. I prefer a little butter to lot of anything else so I'm not seeing a big issue for me this week. but it will still keep me aware of how much I'm using.

Sender's choice? That will be an interesting mix of FQs. It will look like the FQ display at my LQS.

I've lost my brace for my SI joint (hip area) and had to help prepare and serve a dinner for 150 last night. That's not a good combination.

I want to make some pumpkin muffins, but I can't figure out when to eat them if I'm going to continue heavy protein breakfasts for a while. I have to make muffins instead of pumpkin bread for portion control. I can bake the cream cheese inside. I bought walnuts and dried cranberries at the natural food store today and I always have pumpkin, so I'm all set.

I signed up for a BOM here - the January one involves paper piecing - any hints for a first timer? I've learned so much in my year of quilting that I think I'm ready for one more thing, but check with me in a few days. I've had a time with the colors for January. Blue is the logical choice for winter/snow and I have no blue so I've been to the LQS twice. I think I'm overthinking it. Feb should be red - that I can do. It's a calendar theme.

I am losing weight and getting healthier. Here's to a good month for every one of us!!!
Judy

Beachbound 02-01-2012 09:37 AM

Pam 304 is taking over the taboos for awhile. PM her any ideas you come up with Thanks Pam!!!! She will be posting later in the day so watch for it

Thanks, Judy! I will stop by when I csn. This year has been one for the record books. We are so hopeful that the house will sell this time & we can move to Fl. It will be a ton of work but worth it in the long run.

irishrose 02-01-2012 10:53 AM

BOM doers, is it permissible to change a block? Of course, I won't post a picture if I do. I know quilters are supposed to be cat lovers, but I don't have that gene and this month's block has two cats in it. Can I sub a plain heart?

My total weight loss for Jan was 2 1/2 pounds which is disappointing, but it's better than gaining. I did it to myself with ice cream (frozen custard) at Culver's last night. I am learning what to avoid. A medium concrete (similar to a Blizzard) is too big.

It's time for my annual blood work. If my cholesteral is up, ice cream will out again anyhow. My doctor and I don't agree how to treat it. I refuse his drugs and slowly bring it down. Has it stayed? It's been good for several years and I hope it still is.

I need a recipe for a Valentine dessert for a church luncheon. I'm thinking meringues with something yummy in them. I haven't made them in years. I'd better do a dry run to see if the recipe works in this weather. It's very damp and ugly out. Where is my sunshine and my pretty white snow?

Eat healthy, move your body and drink your water. We want flexible arteries along with a slimmer body.

I am losing weight and getting healthier.

Jim's Gem 02-01-2012 10:56 AM

I think I will try this challenge for February. I have lost 20 lbs between Thanksgiving and a week ago. Hopefully I will keep up the loss!!
Count me in. If I forget, please, someone send me a PM

Of course it may be a little harder this month. I just had some knee surgery on Friday and can't do much walking or any aqua exercise for a while.

createfourpaws 02-01-2012 12:46 PM

If anyone needs the mailing address for the mailing the FQ, please PM me. I will be happy to send to you.

Welcome new comers.

blondeslave 02-01-2012 12:58 PM

I just joined our biggest losers at work so hopefully joining this as well will keep me going. I was doing well until my back completely went out on me last January. It's been almost a year since I exercised other than PT. Starting out slow at the gym on the stationary bike. Can't wait until my butt gets used to the bike seat again...ouch!

I have a stationary bike at home. got it at a yard sale 2 yrs ago for a dollar. The seat kills my tailbone. But I do 3-4 miles a day on it./Yeah for me! I need to lose another 88 lbs.Maybe by then it won't hurt to use it so much.lol

Jim's Gem 02-01-2012 05:31 PM

I have a really nice recumbent exercise bike that I bought a little over a year ago. This summer I had my right knee (which had meniscus repair on in April) pop and really hurt after riding one day and have not been on it since. I paid over $400 for it. I will be getting back on it when my Doctor and PT say I can. I just had meniscus surgery on the Left knee on Friday.

Sounds awful and painful. I just finished 18 minutes and did 3.7 miles. I'm tired. Walked all around wal-mart super center this afternoon. Have a good evening everyone.

Welcome, Jim's Gem. That's an inpressive weight loss for this time of year. Can you tell us how you did it?

Mary, can you get a more comfy seat? I put one on my regular bike several years ago. It was a great investment for $20. I gave away my Schwinn AirDyne and can't ride my bicycle because of balance problems. I'm hoping by the time the snow goes that I will be able to ride again. Moira would love it if I can. Lily never did care for running beside the bike.

I'm tired tonight so it may be a good time to try to get back on more normal hours. If I go to bed before 3, I could get up with the rest of the world. But not before this runner is done. Life keeps getting in the way and next week is filling up, too.

I had my protein early so I made broccoli with rice and cheese tonight. I know I should have had some chicken, too, but I didn't feel like touching raw chicken just then. I'll cut up some for me tonight when I butcher a chicken for the furgirls. We share though I cook my portions.

I am losing weight and becoming healthier.
Judy

Judy I never had a bike growing up. I was wondering if they would all make me sore or if changing it would help. Thanks.I will keep a eye out for one. This one makes my tail bone hurt.Any suggestions on what style or type to get? Thanks Mary

purplemem 02-01-2012 07:13 PM

I tried to ride the bike at PT and fell off! I could not balance on the seat and my foot kept hitting the pedal guard. I suggest you go to a bicycle shop and ask them about their most comfortable seat.

Keep up the good work! I'm back to PT tomorrow, today was my day off. I actually missed it. I have a cardio machine at home I am going to use on Saturday, with the permission of my Rehab Therapist.

Yesterday I went on a small cookie binge but I'm back on the wagon today.

irishrose 02-01-2012 08:35 PM

When I bought my pink bicycle, it came with a rather skimpy seat. I replaced it with a thicker and slightly wider one with gel padding from a big box store. It was $19.95 a few years ago. I put the skinny one on Freecycle and it went quickly. If I can't ride this Spring, I think I will look for a used tricycle. I might feel silly for a few days, but it beats not riding at all.

MJ, I have wanting to bake cookies today. If I do one of these days, I will package them in 2s or 3s and be alert to only one package a day. I can do it with muffins, so I should be able to do it with cookies, especially if I freeze them. It's not the cookies that are the problem - it's the serving size. And sometimes the ingredients, but by making my own, I know what's in them. No artificial anything, no high fructose corn syrup, lower sugar, etc. Brown sugar ice box cookies with walnuts sound good. Thank goodness I'm not allergic to tree nuts, just peanuts, which aren't really a nut. I bought some sunflower butter. Yick, but I'm not a fan of sunflower seeds so I don't know what made me think I'd like sunflower butter. Almond butter isn't bad.

I just used some of my Christmas money to order some black suede boots. Does that mean I think our snow will return? The weather report doesn't sound good and this week is the North American Snowmobile Festival. Oh, oh.

Back to the sewing machine.

Have a good evening, y'all.

Chill 02-01-2012 09:03 PM

Hi, I just registered and am excited at all the things on this site. I went to the doctor today and was told I really need to lose some weight and this seems like a great place to start. Count me in and i'll go read the rules and figure out what I need to do next.

Thanks

Short an Sweet 02-02-2012 04:37 AM

I will get my fat qtr in the mail Friday

MrsH2008 02-02-2012 04:41 AM

Irishrose - When you are going for stiff egg whites in damp weather Cream of tartar is your friend. A little jar will last a long time.

I ate Chinese last night. Didn't do bad with my portion, but I can tell it had way too much salt.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

I will drink my water today, I Will drink my water today. I WILL drink my water today!

Kris

Short an Sweet 02-02-2012 05:00 AM

what is the taboo for this week?

JHolm 02-02-2012 05:25 AM

Good morning everyone. Welcome newcomers. Welcome back those who have returned.

Having butter as a Taboo might be difficult for me. I never eat real butter but I use I Can't Believe it's Not Butter Spray, does that count?

I see we have several new people which is great, glad you joined.

MJ sounds like you're doing real well. My prayers are still with you.

Cindy, you,re doing a fine job keeping us all on the staight and narrow. Thank. Can't wait to see how many sign up for Feburary.

Well have a great day everyone. I have to assemble bulletins at church this morning. God Bless.

Jeanne

purplemem 02-02-2012 07:19 AM

Jeanne,
I really miss assembling bulletins, I did it for over 25 years, every week. It was part of the rhythm of my life.
Chill, Welcome! Here are a few great sites I visit every day:

http://www.myfitnesspal.com/
This one gives you food menus, food calories, weight tracking and exercise tracking for free!

http://www.foodfacts.com/NutritionFa...es-25-oz/29441
This lists name brand foods and the calorie count and WW points

http://www.exercise4weightloss.com/index.html
This has the WW formular to figure out how many points you have each day,
and all restaurant menus for WW points

These are my "go-to's" everyday.

I also use these spreadsheets to figure my points and convert to WW recipes:

http://weight-watchers.blogspot.com/...rs-points.html

I have been amazed how successful I've been as I don't have that history at all.

Judy, a tricycle is a good thing but what about what I use at Rehab? This is a countertop set of pedals, first I use them on my arms for 10 minutes, then put them on the floor for my legs. You get the benefit without the snow.

I believe this weeks TABOO is to avoid butter...........extra butter on the table.

Beachbound has asked someone to take over but we have not heard from the new person nor has she signed up on the weight loss thread. I will wait to see if I hear from her.
