I heard from Airwick today. She is safe, and keeping her head up. She was able to take her sewing machine, pair of scissors and a seam ripper with her. No fabric, so her winning had her crying.

I will be sending her some supplies that I have around here that are extras, along with some of my fabric from my scrap bin. I am trying to figure out how I can send her a ruler, cutting mat and rotary cutter. I just need to find a box big enough for them.

Please keep her in your prayers, her husband has cut her off from everything, she has only what she took when she left.

Welcome back, time to get back up and start over. Every day is a new day.

JuneBillie 02-03-2013 07:33 PM

I am glad to be with all of you doing this. It is hard for me too with so many meds. Last year I had lost 70 pounds, but after my mother died, I didn't watch calories again. Just gained it all back since then. I am ready now to start again. With lupus, sjogren's, fibromyalgis, etc. I need to keep trying.

petthefabric 02-03-2013 09:08 PM

Hi. I'd like to join in. My goal is 5#/mo. I can see I'll never win the prize, but I'll be happy with success.

Welcome aboard. Good luck in your loss. I sent you a PM on where to send the FQ aka "skinny quarter"

Vanogay 02-04-2013 07:50 AM

Cindy, how about having something shipped directly to Airwick. Let me know in PM and I"ll kick in some money to help with the costs.

QuiltingKrazy 02-04-2013 08:56 AM

Whoo Hoo! a whopping half pound lost since Friday! Well it is a start! lol

I will look around and see what I can find for us to send her and see where I can get it from at the best price.

squires1042 02-04-2013 02:30 PM

I like many didn't lose last month, but I have been cutting out the stuff I shouldn't be eating, virtually no soda, and I didn't gain any weight so that is a plus. I would love to do weight watchers but the nearest one to me is 130 miles away, so weekly visits are not in the cards. I still plan on talking to them and seeing if I can do something monthly though. I am in for this month as well. Will try to be more proactive in posting this month.

Do I need to pm you again. or is the one from earlier good enough.

Vanogay 02-04-2013 03:01 PM

Squires, WW has something on line. You might want to try that.

While I am looking back through the history on our weight loss advanture for older Taboo Tuesday notes, I ran across this article*. I will use some of their questions to prod our gray matter (the brain) and help us make more healthy choices. This week Taboo or Teriffic Tuesday depends.
Question 1. It is important to track your daily intake of a) fiber b) carbs c) fat d) all of the above
2. At the grocery store, you should look for foods labeled a) vegan b) gluten free c) whole grain
3. True or false - it's smart to stash low-calorie snacks in case you get hungry between meals.

Answers: 1 - a. The majority of weight-loss research has found that the exact number of carbohydrate or fat grams you take in isn't as important as total calories - but tracking fiber could make a big difference. The more fiber you have, the more satisfied and full you feel and the less you will ultimately eat. Women should aim for 25 grams a day; men 38
2 - c. Manufacturers of ready-made snacks and sweets often add extra sugar and fat to make gluten-free or vegan foods as tasty as regular versions. Whole grain, however, generally means that the food is higher in filling fiber, a good thing for appetite control (see questions 1 again)
3 - True. Waiting too many hours to eat sends your blood sugar and energy levels off a cliff, so cravings soar. If yu need something between breakfast and lunch, keep it to 100 calories or less (like a stick of low-fat string cheese). Afternoon snacks can be 150 to 175 calories (like an apple spread with a teaspoon of peanut butter)

Does this make you have a Taboo Tuesday (to cut something out) or a Teriffic Tuesday (where you're already doing good)??
Next week some more of their questions and answers.

Wow teddybear thats an awesome wt loss. I suppose most of us should drink more water!
Good luck everyone!

sewNso 02-05-2013 05:47 AM

sorry, i'm late signing up. so i guess i won't be in contention for the FQ's, but i will play along anyway. i'll send cindy my FQ's. what was last months theme? i'll enclose that too. been on a dieting slump. have 5 extra lbs from xmas. getting lots of sewing done otherwise.

CountryHouseQuilter 02-05-2013 08:05 AM

Hey Cindy, just from reading the post about Airwick I see she may need some fabric. If you could find out what she likes I might be able to get my Wednesday Wonders group to gather some FQ's and send to her. Or perhaps some thread or other things. Let me know and I'll shoot them an email. We meet tomorrow night.

JuneBillie 02-05-2013 11:58 AM

I am trying to drink more water, and I need to anyway. I would have to work up to what I really should be drinking though.

Because this is my first time on here, and I haven't read any of it before, I was wondering how long has this weight loss thread been going on? I figured maybe it has been off and on or something with the changes in the board.

Yesterday I had a break even day, because I was too low on what I needed to have on hand to eat, so today off to the store.

Tomorrow I will be going for my next physical therapy on my right leg so that is an exercise day for me lol....

CountryHouseQuilter, I am glad to see you are through your surgery. My son had his gallbladder out not too long ago. He did fine, but says he can't tell much different.

Good luck everyone!

I will see what I can find out on her likes. I know Painiacs knows her as well she might have some input on what fabric she likes. I will be sending out her winnings on Thursday when I am off work and will have some extras for her along with a rotary cutter. As soon as I hear something I will post it.

I have been the hostess of the group for about a year, someone else was the hostess and due to personal reason, she asked me to take over. I believe it has been going on for several years prior to me taking it over.

As far as drinking more water, I am also trying to drink more water, and find it helps when I add lemons to my water, gives it a bit more flavor. I am trying to stay away from sodas, I have about a 6 pack left at the house of sprite and I am the only one who will drink it, so once it is gone I will not be buying any more. I am amazed that I have stayed away from the vending machines at work. I am doing everything I can to lose the weight I gained from going back on insulin.

Sorry for the ramble.

quilthappygail 02-05-2013 01:38 PM

hi all, been dealing with the car dealer on an electrical wiring problem. What a pain. We have an extended warranty but the insurance co wants to go the cheap way and the dealer wants to do it right so we don't have to come back for the same thing again. It has been 5workings days so far.
Cindy, I could send things along to Airwick to, just let me know. I have some things that she can use.
Gail

meanmom 02-05-2013 04:06 PM

Isn't car trouble a pain. My sone is a mechanic and he complains about the extended warranties. Says the companies are like you said. Cindy I am sure I could send some of my stash to Airwick too. Just let me know what she likes.
Pat

createfourpaws 02-05-2013 06:42 PM

I have sent an email to Airwick, to find out if she has a favorite fabric. As soon as I hear back from her I will let you all know. Where she is staying she doesnt have internet access, she does when she goes to another persons house.

I love the support she is receiving from this group.

irishrose 02-05-2013 08:11 PM

Cindy, I'll watch for info on Airwick and send some fabric, too.

I am in for February. We are away from home so I don't get to this site often. Today it's raining so we're not doing anything. Port Aransas is beautiful! Am enjoying all of the sights and the warm weather.

squires1042 02-06-2013 12:19 PM

Yes but I do better with an in person check in. Its too easy to sluff it off on line.

[QUOTE=Vanogay;5838453]Squires, WW has something on line. You might want to try that.

OMG.....I gained 6 in New Orleans! Those's beignets didn't help! Now to get back on track.

And biscuits...did I mention the biscuits? Oh my!

The power outage was .....interesting to say the least. It was by no stretch of the imagination, dark in there only not so bright. We thought they could have played anyway but I expect it wasn't bright enough for the networks or some such thing.

Pete 02-06-2013 05:07 PM

Well, I've gotten back on track after the retreat. Tomorrow I weigh in at WW - let's see what damage I did! Fingers crossed it wasn't too much. I did get 4 quilt tops done at the retreat so all was not lost!

Pam H 02-06-2013 05:42 PM

Mary, you must have had a good time for a gain like that! You've got the rest of the month to work it off. Or if you're like me, I can gain 2-3lbs from flying.
I have a weigh-in too, tomorrow or friday. When I joined this challenge I was under the impression that we weighed in to start in Jan, then the end of April, then mid July. Good thing I saw a little blip about it on facebook to know about this week's weigh-in. It has made me watch what I am eating the last couple of days. Maybe I should join WW again so I have that weekly weigh-in to keep me motivated.

Mousie 02-06-2013 05:58 PM

I've got a long weigh to go but right now I am under any weight that has shown up on my scale for the past six months!
I am excited. I bought some ankle weights to wear while using my Gazelle.
So far this year I have lost 5 pounds. I am gobsmacked about it! :)

I have a Gazelle too! I finally cleared it off so I could get on it. Used it for hanging husbands hats and my camera and jackets and...well you get the picture. I'm going to make an effort to get started back on it. I go for my weigh-in tomorrow, Thursday. I weigh in on Mondays and Thursdays. This past Monday I was down another lb. I sometimes think I'm going to drown if I have to drink any more water, but I finally get it down.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Shadow, glad you're home safely from the Big Easy. Send us a brief recounting of your wonderful weekend in the city. I'd love to hear about it - where'd you eat, that sort. I guess I miss New Orleans although I'd never go back there - except for a visit.

pokeyscorner 02-07-2013 04:53 AM

I'm keeping busy & away from the kitchen. Trying to use some of my stash up over this winter & finish projects I've got going. So far so good.
Debbie, My Bowflex must be related to your Gazelle. I finally found the seat yesterday. So far can't find the instructions for changing it around for different exercises & haven't found them online either. I'll just have to do the leg lifts forever, as this is how I left it a couple yrs ago.

sewNso 02-07-2013 05:58 AM

my gazelle relocated to my daughters house. :) thx cindy, i'll cut FQ's today. off to sew. everyone's getting over colds in the house thx to the little grdsn. he's off to preschool today.

I have been doing OK this month. Not good not bad so far. Joining WW again on Saturday. I was going last week but the weather was really bad. I need someone to see my weight every week to keep me in line. I need a couple of yummy low calorie recipes for desserts. I have an all day charity sew in on Saturday and poker Saturday night. I need a dessert for both. I know I won't be able to stay out of it completely so I need something I can eat.

hot dog...I have mine in the guest room with a tv, a fan and a timer.
It's the most pleasant way of exercising that I have experienced and I love it.
My dgmouslings think it's good for playing monkey bars on.
I'm guessing you either make or collect teddy bears :)
I'm a big fan!
I don't weigh every day either. I definitely would enjoy being smaller, but my biggest motivation was how tired I was feeling.
I didn't want to do anything and now I do
My DSON IL just offered me some red velvet ice cream and i am going home to eat my salad.
I had read online something before Christmas that helps me when I am tempted to quit something:
"think about the day you give/receive/finish/arrive at your goal. At that moment it will all be worth it."
That keeps me on track, imagining what I want coming to fruition! :)
(my doc reccommended an HOUR a day cardio 7 days a week!)
At first I thought, "Whoa!" but then bc I have needed to lose for so long, I accepted at least there was a way.
I bought some 1.5 ankle weights and I am already losing with the cut in calories, (hi protein-low carbs)...so I know I won't have to do 60 minutes.
I am a giggling, happy-dancing mousie.
Let me know how you are doing on yours!

oh, I have fibromyalgia too and I do find exercise to help.
Whichever way you have to do it, you'll be glad, but I'm sure you know not to overdo.
Have you ever heard of the "spoon theory"?
For those of us with chronic maladies it describes our days perfectly.
