Hi mountain-moma! I collect Fenton too! Isn't it beautiful!???
I mostly collect the hand-painted, numbered Fairy Lamps, but also have some other just beautiful things. What kinds of stuff do you have of theirs?

janRN 05-06-2010 06:52 AM

I collect depression glass, mostly pink or green; old medical items (they used to give shots with glass syringes); and anything Dalmatian.
I can picture my daughter-in-law coming in here after I die saying: "what was she thinking??" and throwing everything in a dumpster-makes me sad.

hazeljane 05-06-2010 07:15 AM

I used to collect more than I do now. I went through a period where I was unemployed and getting desperate. My collections paid my mortgage more than a few times. LOL.

I love Fire-King jade-ite. I loved it when I was a baby bride because it was dirt cheap. I was pissed when Martha Stewart discovered it and the prices went up. (although I profited from that as well) I love it still now that it's not the hot trend.

I collect books. All books. early christian and biblical history, the histories of civilizations, Irish history, food science, cook books, novels, All books.

Barkcloth is my main downfall in fabric. I can't get enough. And I have a furniture problem. mmmmm. We are working on our mid-century modern house, so now it's Heywood Wakefield and blond maple furniture from the 50's.

The first step is admitting you have a problem....

Hello, my name is Maggie....

I inherited my Grandmothers Salt & Pepper collection when she passed away in 2000. I've been adding to it since then, enough so that my DH bought me a bigger display cabinet a few years ago. That one is now chock full so I'm trying not to add any more (well, maybe a couple now and then)

amandasgramma 05-06-2010 07:26 AM

roosters!!!! Oh, and quilt magazines, patterns....also painting (tole) and stained glass pattern books. DH says my hobby is collecting magazines...not doing the hobbies...LOL

vjengels 05-06-2010 07:31 AM

I have a small collection of antique locks & keys ( a dozen), small stamp collection ( 1/3 of a book),I had to give up my collection of chairs pulled out of the trash.... my husband , although sweet, just doesn't share my lust for furniture on the side of the road...

AnnaK 05-06-2010 07:36 AM

Not intentionally but I've ended up with quite a few little sling purses, pincushions, flower frogs and journals/notebooks. I didn't realize I had a collection until I started Spring cleaning. Collecting not a good idea when one lives in a small house...and is married to a pack rat. I should stop with this Spring cleaning!

Ain't that the truth for most of us. I will not live long enough to make all the quilts I've marked in books and magazines.

cjomomma 05-06-2010 07:48 AM

I used to collect state quarters but when push came to shove I had to use them for food.

raptureready 05-06-2010 07:50 AM

I used to collect earrings, I had over 4000 pairs from all over, some from Brazil, a pair of silver and amber ones from Lithuania, etc. Now that I no longer wear jewelry I'm in the process of selling most of them. I also used to collect eggs--glass, ceramic, Ukranian. Don't do that anymore either. I have a huge collection of art supplies and rubber stamps. DD collects purses and at 11 years old has 137 of them. She also is finishing a state quarter collection that my BFF started for her in 1999. She has almost all of them now.

What do I collect now? Mostly aches and pains I do believe. Oh, DD and I collect miniature tea sets.

Do you do stained glass? I use to til i discovered quilting.

raptureready 05-06-2010 09:07 AM

Okay, I'll fess up to a little more, I also collect Foo dogs but I only have 4 sets. There's just something about them that I love. I think it's because as a very young girl I went to a place called Allerton Park in Monticello, Il. It actually is an old estate once owned by Robert Allerton. There was a section by the pagoda called the Foo garden. There were pillars with large cobalt blue Foo dogs that were from some "dynasty" in China. Some of them got destroyed and the rest have since been placed in a vault. They've been replaced by replicas but they're still beautiful. I think that's what started my fasination with them. [When I worked at the UofI I was fortunate enough to get to perform in a murder mystery dinner/play at the Allerton Mansion. (I was the ghost of the murder victim)]

http://allerton.illinois.edu/

And I collect unusual musical instruments. I have a mountain dulcimer, two lap harps, an antique zither, some old harmonicas and a few others. Oh, and paperwieghts. Maybe I'm not a collector as much as I am a packrat. LOL

Grinster 05-06-2010 10:31 AM

Yarn, rubber stamps, baskets, old medical or nursing books, bird figurines, dust (haha), Dept. 66 Christmas Houses, Longaberger Baskets etc.

Marjpf 05-06-2010 10:47 AM

Lapel pins. Everywhere I travel I pick one up that represents the place.

DianD 05-06-2010 01:06 PM

I currently own nearly 100 teapots! I love each and every one of them, and am always looking for an addition to my teapot "family." I acknowledge that I have way too much fabric, but it is not a collection...its' an OBSESSION!

MadQuilter 05-06-2010 01:11 PM

On purpose: Matryoshka nesting dolls.
Otherwise: Junk mail, dust bunnies, pet hair.....

Janetlmt 05-06-2010 04:23 PM

I collect...Peanuts characters..you know..Snoopy, Charlie Brown.., sea shells, old dishes with pink flowers or that are colored pink and antique towels...and hankeys.

earthwalker 05-06-2010 05:13 PM

I love anything old or antique...have a passion for small chairs/stools, furniture, odd statuary (animals & figures), anything a little ugly or grotesque, books, plants, skulls, candles, mirrors and art.

Oh, dust bunnies and the odd daddy-longlegs, often creep up uninvited!

dglvr 05-06-2010 05:42 PM

My main thing I collect is anything dog. Really, my house is full of dog everything inside and out. Other things are animals, domestic or wild. Fish. Buttons.
This was a great post to see what others collect. Thanks for
posting

You know I was like you, my wife and I had all of these movies on DVD and Tapes and I bought a 2TB external Hard Drive and up loaded the entire collection on it and still have room for more. I have my satellite TV running through my computer and use my second HD for a TIVO and if we want to watch a movie then we can pull one off of the external HD and we can watch it.

This might be a viable option if you need the room.

FABRIC - less breakage!

OH, and I have part of my mother's thimble collection!

RedGarnet222 05-06-2010 07:48 PM

Ok some of the things I collect are clocks, bibles and religous books, books, writing pens, keys, fenton, sea shells, jewelry, anything having to do with sewing (including a thimble collection), some glass insulators and old colored canning jars andbottles, delft pottery and figurines and old pieces of embroideries and some paintings or art work.
You wouldn't know it though, most of it is stored. I hate clutter and dusting.

mom-6 05-06-2010 08:39 PM

LOL You sound like me....fabric, books, fabric.....

b.zang 05-06-2010 08:52 PM

children, I collect children

I meet them at the entrance to the school every morning. We make eye contact, smile at each other and exchange a warm hello. Sets them up for a great day. :)

I do this as they come into my room as well and things always run more smoothly when I remember this ritual.

moomoo 05-07-2010 03:44 AM

i collect cow stuff, native american stuff, salt and pepper shakers, books, rooster and chicken stuff

8gr8kids 05-07-2010 04:06 AM

I have collections of fairies, hymnals, mice (not real of course), and teapots. Have collected cookbooks but am getting rid of most of them because my favorite and most-used recipes are now on my pc. What I don't have can be found online with a click of the mouse. I like old kitchen linens (napkins, tea towels and tableclothes). Don't like paper napkins or plastic tablecloths except for picnics.

mountain deb 05-07-2010 04:32 AM

Depends on the decade of my life. I have collected different things throughout my life. I am in limbo right now, but have collected Currier and Ives dinnerware, Puriton ceramics, old linens/quilt tops, salt/pepper shakers shaped like books, old wedding photos, late 1800's pictures, old sewing machines, and what ever has struck my fancy.

Favorite Fabrics 05-07-2010 04:41 AM

My collections are in the garden, where (being in NY) I can ignore them half the year and enjoy them the other half.

Hostas...
... tall phlox...
......unusual lilies of the valley (double-flowered and pink)...

and, unintentionally, weeds. ;-)

ledraj 05-07-2010 05:07 AM

I collect bears and also make teddy bears. I also collect dust, someone put a quote on here something about a house is not a home until you write I love you in the dust. Well, I have the homiest place around.

Deborah12687 05-07-2010 05:20 AM

I am always collecting something...exspecially if it catches my eye. My main collections are old beads and the oldest beads I have are from the 1920's. I collect old greeting cards, old post cards, shot glasses, ceramic and glass eggs.

Lostn51 05-07-2010 05:27 AM

Its sad to say but I worked with a guy who was always telling me that he collects ex wives......I think he is on #9 right now.

I like the one about collecting children, but somehow I was envisioning a fairy tale when I first read the post. For a second I was thinking you were working on a stew or a sweat shop I wasnt sure LOL!!!!

HisPatchwork 05-07-2010 06:24 AM

On purpose, pin cushions, thimbles, hummingbirds, chickens, cups I like, and just started to collect orchids since they seem to do well in a certain spot in my kitchen.
Without trying, clutter! I am working on breaking that habit!

Yeah! Dust bunnies.

Zephyr 05-07-2010 07:40 AM

Funny that those dust bunnies and scads of cat hair are in Alabama also. I collect cats. I taught Kindg. for a number of years and was in real estate for over 15 years. So when someone would see a cat or two on my desk, then I usually ended up with another one or more. I retired and luckily have a large kitchen counter where most of my cats reside. I have two fur babies Miss Kitty and Ringo and on dresser drawer with nothing but "cat" shirts.

jbj137 05-07-2010 08:47 AM
