What a pretty birthday cake. Great job. I've wanted to take a class in that but I'm afraid of all the cakes I'd make for me! Not good for me. Pretty, pretty!

gmajudy 02-25-2011 11:45 AM

I'd like a nice big piece with a rose, please.

A work of art that I can admire, but have no desire to be able to do. I'm happy you have enjoyed the process and have learned of your new talent.

You clearly have a great "touch"... I had so much fun during the years decorating cakes, cupcakes, and cookies... lots of cookies... for years, all the kids in my children's homeroom class received a cookie with their name on it during holiday parties. One of the last years in my teaching career, a student came in one day having "one of those days" and when I asked how I could make it better, she paused and said, "Do you have a cookie?" I called home (where my DD was home for the holidays) and asked her to bake some cookies and we decorated them for my class... the kids couldn't believe I'd put their name on a cookie... The crazy thing was how weak my hands had become... my lines were quite "squiggly" but the names were legible... The other crazy thing is that these students will probably remember this moment more than any teaching moment we had... sigh (with a wink)

You will enjoy this skill for many years!

Great job on the roses. I never could master those. My DH was able to make great roses, though.

Lindsey 02-26-2011 08:23 AM

No I didn't get a piece of it. Don't know as anyone ate it yet. I never got a call saying how it tasted or anything. Some .. whatcha gonna do.

annieshane 02-26-2011 08:48 AM

Your roses are soooo pretty. Really hard to believe this is your first finished cake and roses. Looks like a budding new career! Homemade decorative cakes are soooo expensive. I made my wedding cake, my mother and mother-in-law's anniversary cakes and so many others. But, life moves on, and arthur and the other ritis brothers came to join our family and cakes are not possible now. So, I sew now! You will enjoy these talents for many years to come and the recipients of your cakes will be blessed with good tasting cakes as well as pretty designs. Great Job!
