Some of you will remember that we suffered a week of terrible storms at the beginning of February, which had a devastating effect on our garden. We have been working non stop more or less and just today I finally felt that we have managed to get our pool deck, not as it was as it can never be, but at least like it should be :D

I will post some 'flood damage' pictures first :(

So now I can smile again when I look out...... :D

Izy 05-18-2009 12:42 PM

This is only one area that we suffered damage, and what you don't realise is that under all that mud is a full border of plants and a 4' high wall that was pushed over with the flood waters, it got actual worse than this, but I didn't take any pictures, but you can get an idea :(

We have also had to repaint the whole of the outside of the house and buildings as everything was stained, it has been a non stop job for us, but thank god hard work and perseverance has won!! :D :D :D

Thanks Loretta, we do love our villa and have put our heart and soul into this place, so when nature takes it's spite out on you it's harder to bear, but you just got to dust yourself down and get on with the clear up!!

Here's some work in progress shots.... :?

.

Had to get a machine in as it became just to hard to remove all of the debris

We still have this area to do, all that waste soil is what the machine has had to dig out, it was supposed to be my veggie and fruit garden....

It's looking great. Sorry you had such a mess, I remember the pictures when it happened. Maybe now you can get back to quilting!!!

Izy 05-18-2009 12:54 PM

Well we are renting the villa out for the summer Gayle that was why we were in such a panic...can you imagine if we had some earlier bookings OMG doesn't bear to think about it, anyway, luckily we got the worst of it done before the high summer season, so we will be moving out next week. THEN I will be able to relax into my quilting properly, don't worry I am taking absolutely everything quilting related with me lol!!

sharon b 05-18-2009 12:54 PM

Looks so much better.... I don't know how much quilting I would get done with such a wonderful backyard

In summers past I usually sit in the covered lounge and my machine table is on castors so I used to wheel it out, as it gets so hot here in the summer you really need to be in the shade Sharon

This is the summer lounge area, where I sit and sew with a cooling breeze blowing through the open windows

And then this is what happened, after the main rock support wall started to slip :(

Land moving forward, pushed and broke up the main drive

From the looks of those pictures, Izy, you could have lost your home. It sure is beautiful now. I love a pool, just a water dog, I am! Would love to put one in, someday!

We had to get builders in to pull down the rocks, remove 20 wagon loads of earth and rebuild the whole wall

Ninnie, we realise we were extremely lucky, the way in which we incorporated two staircases either side of the villa, allowed the flood waters to cascade down and mostly away from the villa, otherwise we really would have been in alot more of a mess than we are and although the flood water did breach into the lower rooms of the villa, and flowed for over 12 hours solid, seeping in through the walls, we were lucky enough to have flush floor drains in the ensuite bedrooms down there so it had a way to escape without causing damage to furnishings,we have had to repaint all the walls downstairs, but no other damage was done phew!! :D

sewjoyce 05-18-2009 01:36 PM

tlrnhi 05-18-2009 02:46 PM

Izy, you all have done a wonderful job fixing the villa back up. It's beautiful!

I did see one thing missing in the pool area. Didn't see Sasha out there sunning herself. lol

Mousie 05-18-2009 02:59 PM

What a lot of work, in such a short amount of time. Think Sasha was sleeping. I'd get tired, just watching all that.
How often does the weather get that bad, Izy? I hope not for a long, long, time! hopefully, never again. :D

Oh Izy, I would just love to come and stay at your villa!! Talk about a dream come true -- however, with the way my finances are, I'd have to paddle a canoe over that big ocean -- after I walked to the coast...

zyxquilts 05-18-2009 03:48 PM

Wow! All your hard work definitely shows Izy! The villa looks delectable once again :D :D :D

sandpat 05-18-2009 03:56 PM

Beautiful...again Izy! I know you and John are soo glad to have that much behind you. You will really need this summer to relax after all that hard work.

When you showed your shady porch where you sew in the summer....I just sighed....awww....what a life

Chele 05-18-2009 04:00 PM

Great progress, Izy! It looks gorgeous again. Sorry you had to go through the floods, but you made it right again!

Izy-You sure have been busy these last few months and all of your hard work has paid off. I was so sad to read your post about all the flooding and am so glad to see that you have been able to come back, better than ever, in such a short time. What a wonderful place you have there.
