I know I had to scrape frost off the car this morning, but came home to find a flock of robins flitting around. Sorry the photos aren't better, but they were on the move!

That is a cool sign of Spring! How many did you see?

retired teacher 02-17-2010 03:46 PM

I AM MOVING TO FLORIDA ! If robins were in Iowa today they would be snowbound like the rest of us

Lady Tapioca 02-17-2010 03:53 PM

My Mom saw a flock of robins just today in her snow covered tree! Come on Spring!

zz-pd 02-17-2010 03:59 PM

great pictures thanks for sharing!

tlrnhi 02-17-2010 04:03 PM

I cannot wait to get back so I can see birds!!

Teacup 02-17-2010 04:11 PM

Ohhhhhhhhh, lucky you! I long to see the robins! I can't wait for spring. For about 28 years we've had a family tradition...the first person to see a robin in the spring gets a pie of his/her choice. Depending on the year, robins will start to come back to central Illinos in mid-March to early April. I've seen Canadian geese headed north in the past few weeks, a sign that winter is waning. I'm also anxious for the snow to melt, as I start to check everyday for crocus to peep out through the slush and mud. I love spring.

sewjoyce 02-17-2010 06:33 PM

Can't wait to see Robins in my trees!!!! We still have snow on the ground and more coming this weekend....

MissTreated 02-17-2010 06:37 PM

We're still buried in snow, but the temps are coming up and the sun is up longer, so I know its on its way, even w/o the robins!

Sheila Elaine 02-17-2010 06:39 PM

I'm in NE Ala & enjoy seeing birds & squirrels out my back door every Spring & Summer. There's a row of hedges that they flit across as they play. Wouldn't it be so nice to be a creature with no cares, & beautiful to boot. Enjoy the birds & the luscious scenery there in FL. Thanks for snapping the pics.

Moonpi 02-17-2010 06:43 PM

It was a large flock - probably 50 - and they were clambering all over the trees looking for food, then on their merry way.

No crocuses in Florida, so I guess this will have to do for my new spring signal.

MadQuilter 02-17-2010 07:16 PM

Our almond trees are in full bloom and there is another tree that has white cluster blossoms (looks like cotton balls exploded). So yes, spring has sprung.

RedGarnet222 02-17-2010 07:18 PM

How funny!! I saw robins in the bird bath yesterday too!
Great pics! Thanks for sharing them.

b.zang 02-17-2010 07:23 PM

JEALOUS

wvdek 02-17-2010 08:51 PM

I agree...jealous.
But not too because we have lovely Blue Jays, Cardinals, Titmouse (or is it Titmice when there is more than one?), Juncos, Chickadees. Loking forwward to the Robins tho.

SNOW anyone? Send some warmth our way.

cyniree 02-18-2010 11:12 AM

And I can't wait for Spring, I have loved the snow but I am ready.

When I think of robins, I think about my dad fighting with them over the cherries in his tree. He so looked forward to my mom making a cherry pie for him. They couldn't just eat one cherry. They had to take a bite out of each one.

Judith 02-18-2010 02:13 PM

You mean there is actually hope that we will eventually get spring up here in Canada? Yeaahhh!

RatherB Quilting 02-18-2010 02:21 PM

Oh...no fair no fair! I thought you meant the first signs of spring were here for US....central florida? That's cheating! ;)
Got me all riled up and everything...

:)

sewgull 02-18-2010 05:26 PM

Bluebirds, maple trees budding, bulbs peeking out, yes spring is near. And I will be so glad.

cr12cats 02-18-2010 09:53 PM

If that is a sign for spring HURRAY!! this transplanted girl from california has had enough of winter here in kansas. Exoecting snow again by Sunday Yuck!!

ButtonPatty 02-18-2010 11:11 PM

My friend said his crocus are coming up already!

reneebobby 02-19-2010 04:34 AM

Nice pictures. Turns out we have some robins that stay here in Cleveland so they aren't a sign anymore for us. :( Because i see them all the time.

Brenda Retzlaff 02-19-2010 06:10 AM

I'm also in Central FL and saw some for the first time this week. Even though we're in FL, this has been a really cold winter so far and to me robins are always a sign of spring.

butterflywing 02-19-2010 02:26 PM

the audobon society says that this is a bumper crop year for robins. and they all met for lunch at moonpi's. the first part is true. the second part i read in the tabloids.

Where in central FL are you? I'm in The Villages and love it. My husband came home from golfing today and said the golf course was full of robins getting ready to fly north. 2 years ago we came home from running errands and every house on both sides of our street had robins lined up across the peaks on all of our roofs. I'd never seen such a thing or so many like that before. We've been here 4-1/2 years.

Oklahoma Suzie 02-20-2010 05:56 AM

I saw a ton of robins in my front yard yesterday.

lots2do 02-20-2010 06:34 AM

We had a whole bunch here about 2 weeks ago when all of you in Virginia etc. were getting your big snow storms. Guess they were confused by the change in weather patterns!
Good to see them, though!

gloryj8 02-20-2010 06:32 PM

yeah but your in florida, I want to see that in ohio...please come soon

bluebird 02-20-2010 07:32 PM

Lots of large flocks of geese flying north today....Yippee :-D That's a good sign of spring on its way.

Jingle 02-20-2010 09:04 PM

I am not ready for Spring for a couple months or so, It can get really warm here and very muggy. I'm never ready for that. I wouldn't mind if all of you got Spring.

charvan 02-21-2010 10:51 AM

We've got the fattest robins I've seen in years here. They have been here since the last week in Jan, so I think they are local. Narcissus is up about 4" and daffodils are about 2". Hope spring is not too far away.

sewgull 02-21-2010 11:05 AM

Today is a beautiful warm spring day. I just inside to cool off and put on shorts. Everything is beginning to look and feel like spring here in the south eastern coast.
Daylight saving time begins March 14.

countrymaid 02-22-2010 09:23 AM

No robins here yet, but the fox were barking last night.

What does it mean if foxes bark? Is spring mating season?

Teacup 02-24-2010 04:55 PM

ROBINS SHOWED UP IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS THIS MORNING! I was so excited. It was 14 degrees and they were puffed up into round balls trying to keep warm, probably wondering why in the world they traveled north so early.

Now I start the crocus watch.

grammypatty7 02-24-2010 08:40 PM

Wow, that's early. In Peru, IL., we used to see them in March but not this early.
