Fun with telemarketers

Even though we are on the "do not call" list we still get the credit card calls.
The other day I decided to have some fun.

Phone rings, I pick it up and say, "Hello"
A recording comes on and a woman says, "Hello, we are calling you today to let you know that you can lower your credit card interest . . . blah . . . blah . . . .blah. . . press 1 now to speak to one of our representative."
I pressed 1
A man comes on:"Hello, my name is Mark. Does your household have over $3000 in credit card debt?"
I said, "What?"
He said, "Do you have over $3000 in credit card debt?"
I said, "Whaaat? I can't hear you."
He said, "DO YOU HAVE OVER $3000 IN CREDIT CARD DEBT?"
I said, "3000 calico cats? No I don't have any cats of any kind, I'm allergic. Why would anyone have..."
click, he hung up on me. Rather rude, I'd say, after all, I was just getting started......

DogHouseMom 07-10-2012 01:25 PM

ROFL!! A woman after my own heart!! That was perfect!

kathdavis 07-10-2012 01:31 PM

LMAO! Too good!

AuntieD 07-10-2012 04:14 PM

Maybe that will work for those political robo calls I am beginning to receive.

mrs. fitz 07-11-2012 09:52 AM

Good for you! A blow for all of us.

nannyrick 07-11-2012 10:00 AM

That is a good one. Another one is tell them to "hold on a minute" Then put the phone down and walk away.

quiltsRfun 07-11-2012 10:03 AM

DH answers in a made up "foreign" language - complete jibberish. They don't last long.

Tink's Mom 07-11-2012 12:28 PM

I've told them that they have to talk to the dog...she makes all the decisions. I don't understand why...but they hang up.

dobies rock! 07-11-2012 12:51 PM

My hubby asks if he can call them back later, preferably when they are home & eating dinner.

"Beginning to recieve"? I live in WI & this year we've had an election every other week (it sems like) so it's been all robo-calls all the time around here for months. I've just quit even rushing to see who's calling.

suebee 07-11-2012 01:30 PM

Love it!!!

rrhaigh 07-11-2012 02:04 PM

OMG. I love it. Will have to answer the next unwanted telemarketer call!

sewnsewer2 07-11-2012 02:27 PM

:D
When someone calls me asking for $ donations I tell them 'I'm not working right now' (the truth, no need to confess I'm retired) then I say 'who's goning to me me some money to give to you'? They hang up right away! :D

chips88 07-11-2012 02:46 PM

thanks for all the great lines now , i can use them the next time they call me. thats great.

Sandygirl 07-11-2012 04:04 PM

Maybe they should all go on the dole vs working for a living. Thoughts??? I just quietly hang up.

I don't care if they are working or not. I didn't ask them to call me.

bnlmom 07-11-2012 06:24 PM

Thank goodness for call ID!-but if my husband gets one and it's for me, he says "Oh,she's dead". Gets them every time.

My Dad used to do that to telemarkers too, only my mom really had died. They would ask for her and Dad would tell them she doesn't live here anymore. TM: Can you give me her new address?? DAD: No, cause I'm not real sure where she is. TM: Do you have anyway to contact her? Dad: No, but I sure wish I could, if you will leave me your phone number I will contact you as soon as I hear from her, she died about 6 months ago. CLICK on the other end, he looked at me laughing and said works every time. Just cracked me up!!

knlsmith 07-12-2012 01:29 AM

Bwahahaha! LMAO!

SueDor 07-12-2012 01:46 AM

THats a great idea! I may have to use that one!

Scakes 07-12-2012 03:30 AM

I can see I haven't been very creative. I usually just hang up on them. I think I'll try some of these ideas and maybe get a laugh or two out of it. :)

brushandthimble 07-12-2012 03:40 AM

LOL Oh you got him so good!

I did to once, told him from the get go I was not buy, then let do his whole speal, 20 minutes later he asks for my cc info, told him no. Boy he was p****. I told him again I said at the beginning I was not buying. When will they learn..

jeank 07-12-2012 03:54 AM

Many years ago I received one for new siding and windows. I just went into fake crying and said my husband left me, I have all these children and have had to go on welfare. But my windows are drafty and the children are sick. Do they think welfare would pay for the new windows?

They dont stay on the phone long after hearing that.

Oh, life's to short NOT to indulge in a little fun w/TM's, especially after I usually break my neck running in to answer the phone!

In the woods 07-12-2012 04:42 AM

I got an air horn. I do warn them first.

Caswews 07-12-2012 05:41 AM

HAHAHAHAHA sounds like something my DH would do- He loves to mess with telemarketers especially since we are on the Do not call list. When he gets them on his cell phone, he tells them he's not into porn and they best hang up before he calls the porn police on them .. OH lordy .. You should some of the reactions when we are out in public .. funny, but not, wait yes funny...

alwayslearning 07-12-2012 06:34 AM

That is wonderful! I do "Can you hold for just a minute?" then lay the phone down, like Tink's Mom. This would waste even more of their time!

callen 07-12-2012 07:00 AM

Hooray for you. Vengeance can be such fun !!!

dglvr 07-12-2012 07:10 AM

Hahaha. I love doing things like that. Depends on the mood I'm in to what attitude they get. The last one called as someone was at the door so I put the phone down by my dogs barking. After they were done barking there was nobody there. Imagine that. hehe.

loriea 07-12-2012 07:15 AM

One time I handed the phone to my DGS. He must have been about 6 or so. He thought the call was for him, he asked they lady if she wanted a play date with him. She must not have quite figured out she had a child on the phone. After a few moments he said, 'You come to my house and play and then I can go to your house and play.' She hung up on him. Six year olds love having phone calls.

Olivia's Grammy 07-12-2012 09:10 AM

Where's the fast come back when you need them? That was a good one. Wish I could remember it.

I had to laugh at this one because when they would call me about, new windows, siding, roof, etc. I would tell them that we didn't own the home we where living in. Never called again. The thing is that we were making house payment, but the bank had the note, so I didn't feel like I was lying to much. LOL. I love to play games with them. :p

TnBecky 07-12-2012 09:31 AM

I have started answering my un-known callers by saying "Hello this is Becky's Helpers & Cat Rescue, how can I help you?" Which this is no lie. They hang up right away. I guess they are afraid that I might ask them for a donation. LOL. I keep hoping that they will list me as a business (non-profit) except for all the cat purrs & leave me alone. Aren't we just awful.

Momo 07-12-2012 09:36 AM

Hilarious! But the calls are not so, we get them too, even though we are on the do not call list. I'm wondering if the list is a way for them to get everyone's phone number so they don't miss calling one! Seriously, it's such a nuisance.

Your response sounds great, I might try something like that next time...

Delta 07-12-2012 09:52 AM

aaaaaaaaa hahahahahah that was a good one. I will have to remember that one.:D:D

Chasing Hawk 07-12-2012 09:59 AM

We get a telemarketer call from a cruise ship line on our cell phone! And we do get the ones about credit card debt, I have told them to take us off their list. Because we have NO debt!!
Only payments we make are the truck payment and the mortgage. Utilities are a part of life so they don't go into the debt category.

I got that call soon after we moved into the current house we live in. I told the lady the house is only 5 yrs old, it doesn't need new windows. And could she personally call back in about 25 yrs and then we can talk new windows. :)

JoyjoyMarie 07-12-2012 10:04 AM

You all tickled my fancy with your creative responses to these unwanted calls - I think I'll sit down and brainstorm a few with my hubby for the upcoming months - Lord knows we'll all be getting a crazy amount for this upcoming national election.

ptquilts 07-12-2012 10:56 AM

At one time I had thousands in CC debt but it was all at 0% interest. I would get the calls offering to "lower my interest rate." I would ask, How much lower than ZERO can you get?
