Gross, Disgusting, but No Pictures
Note: If you get easily grossed out by reading stories, don't read this post. You have been warned...

This is reported as a true story....

I'm sure I'm going to see my fair share of gross things having a baby. I'm already amazed at the shades of color crap can be in a baby's diaper. But yesterday, something happened in my household yesterday morning that almost had both Liz and me vomiting in the living room.

Again, you have been warned. This isn't pretty!

You still here? Of course. I thought so. Weirdo.

By the way, let me preface the story by letting you know all is well in the house. Everyone is fine. You'll know why I say this after you read it (especially if you're a cat lover...)


The reason I'm telling a story that's not pretty is just to let you know that if you want to own a pet, things may happen that you never thought were possible, and you may have to do things that, if you'd think about later, would give you the willies.

Anyway, Liz and I were getting ready to go to a friend's house when I noticed our youngest cat Tweak walking a little funny. I've seen our cats sometimes rub their butts on the floor if they haven't had a clean bowel movement, and it's not fun cleaning up a cat poop trail on the carpet. But I didn't see the trail effect, so I kept watching him for a minute.
After he moved around a bit, I saw that there was a piece of poop hanging from his rear area. OK, I'm a little grossed out, but this is nothing I haven't seen before, so I run to the kitchen to grab a paper towel and pick it off.

What happened next was completely unexpected. And gross. And...even humorous, now that I know Tweak's OK.

I picked the piece of poop from his rear, only to pull out a long piece of string from his butt.

To make matters worse, the little piece of poop came off into the paper towel, and now Tweak, being the kitten he is, starts chasing after the string hanging out of his butt, so he's running madly around in a circle.

Now, at the time, this wasn't funny. If a cat or dog eats string, it can kill them. At this point, Liz was feeding Hayden on the couch and really didn't catch everything that was going on, so while she's grossed out, she's laughing a bit. But I'm running to the kitchen again, yelling, "Liz, this isn't funny - I need your help now!"

Unfortunately, she had to put Hayden down on the couch, and he's not happy about getting his meal cut short, so he starting crying.

OK, so at this point Liz is holding Tweak down while I pull on the string, hoping we've come to the end.

Nope.

Let's just say I pulled for a while before it all came out.

And when you're pulling stuff that coming from the depths of a pet's internal organs...well, it smells awful.

When we were finally done, I'm running to the kitchen again to throw away the offending string, trying desperately not to throw up all over the floor.
I turn around and Liz is gagging over the cat, so I quickly find some matches and light them as that's a good way to get rid of fecal-like odors. Fortunately, she held it together, and neither one of us puked.

Tweak seems fine. He hasn't had no more stringy poop since then. And yes, if anyone comes over to our house, I've cleaned the area thoroughly so you won't get any germs or viruses.

So how was supper? ;)

ROFL!!! Ditter you are too funny!! I am a mom and a cat owner and this is just a normal every day type thing with kids & cats.

Been there, done that! It's not so funny till the next day. I just had to steam clean my bedroom, visiting children fed our chihuahuas cookies and the results are best unmentioned! With pets you just never know what's next. Thanks Ditter.

I use to babysit a lil boy that would eat hair.. Yes hair.. It was the same situation with the string and the cat except it was long stands of hair.. yes totally disgusting when changing his diaper..

Who hasn't helped their pet with some kind of personal problem. If you're a pet owner you do what you have to do for their sake. Yea Ditter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the Kitty alright???????? that much sting could have caused internal cuttting........

I am a veternarians daughter, so it didn't gross me out! Just keep an eye on the kitty to make sure he is ok.

My Jack Russell has been known to eat hair and I have to give a tug to help him out. Gross but he is my fur-baby and it is my job!

OMGosh!! I was gonna say the same thing but it was my son!! I will never forget it....happened only once but I was like....."what the heck!!" I was afraid to mention it for fear people would really get sick....LOL!! :D

yes, please watch cats and kids around string, small toys, batting, etc.
a very good reason never to let either into your sewing space.
i know, you can't watch everything but we must give it a good try to keep our kids and pets safe.

Picture a street corner with neighbors sitting on their porches. Enter one dog who had eaten some untangled Berber carpet. Add a shreiking granddaughter as the grandmother tried to help the dog with the carpet. The dog is afraid of plastic bags, so she's running away as much as she can. I was the grandmother and it was not a pretty picture, but enjoyed by many (from a distance).

OMG!!! I laughed the whole time reading this!

What I want to know is while he was pulling the string out, did he hold onto the end and walk backwards or did he do the hand over hand manuever?! ;)

My dog did a dryer sheet. Not nice.

My Siamese ate string, about a yard of it. Glad that he only did that one time.

Cats also like to eat the tinsel on the Christmas tree. So I stopped putting the tinsel on the tree while we had cats.

Okay....I'm grossed out now!!LOL

Tink ate a spool of thread when she was a puppy....
Also, when she is planning on getting sick...she will make sure that she is either on the bed or on the oriental rug. Never on the hardwood floor or the kitchen floor.

while we were out tonight my dog eat my bedroom door guess she thought we went to bed with out her. not happy with her right now .. i will be at lowe frist thing in the a.m

Well, I guess she got her fiber...lol...they do the darndest things.

I had a cat chew off and eat the end of a bra once. Couldn't figure out why I couldn't fasten it - it kept slipping through my fingers. Then I found out exactly what happened when he threw it up.... :P We'd have to make sure our shoe strings were neatly tucked into our shoes too - or he'd mow them off. He was a stinker!

Been there and done that.

Men just don’t listen like they should! My husband likes to snack in the evening and uses paper towels as napkins. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve told him to throw the used towel in the trash as soon as he is done with it. The trouble is most of the time he falls asleep after snacking and here lies the problem.

My little dog waits patiently for some of the snack and even more patiently for him to fall asleep. She then carefully takes the paper towel off of his lap and chews out the part he has cleaned his face and hands on. When he wakes up and sees the towel on the floor, he thinks it just has fallen off his lap. I don’t understand how he misses the hole in it, but he does. He picks it up and throws it away and is never the wiser to the dog’s sneakiness. Comes in and says goodnight to me and goes to bed.

The next morning’s poop outing the dog finishes and then walks way, stops, squats again, stops, squats and ends up walking back to me like she has a corn cob stuck up her butt looking at me for help. The first time this happen, I about freaked out because I thought she had some huge worm coming out her butt. I have always kept an old wash cloth by the door to “dry” her before coming back into the house. It now has a dual purpose, drying and de-worming the paper towel when it happens. Of course I get after my husband for the umpteenth time because of the damage this could do to the dog.

You're very lucky that the string "just came out". My DD cat ate over 5 yds. of ribbon...some hanging from his mouth...some out his butt. He had to have surgery...over $500.00 but if we had pulled it, they said we would have killed him. God Bless our Furbabies---they sure do keep us on our toes Right now we're doctoring our little one, CallaLily (9yrs old only 6 lbs) as she has Lyme type disease....never found the tick on her, but we almost lost her (and she's an indoor cat). Instead we found the tick on me!!! Did my round of meds and had a titer and I'm OK. But---Eeuuuuuu!

Bolonga rind...Rat terrier. Vinyl gloves..paper towel. Nuff said.

No string or ribbon story, but my friend had two cats, and a robo cleaner. They had never paid any attention to it in 2 yrs. She turned it on, and the 1 cat was just watching it. The robo turned its self around scared the cat so bad that it po--- the wall and the other cat. She said it wasn't fun cleaning the cat.

This was a good one, still laughing.

One of my cats did this with the tinsel, not a pretty site.

OMG..........I have 2 cats but haven't had any really gross happenings. Sounds like something you could get a good laugh about afterwards, but not during! Glad Tweak is okay!

Knew a lady who's cat ate lots of thread and had to have surgery twice to remove it.

i can relate to that my babyhas kidney problems so she throws up quite often i spot clean but need to get someone in to do all the carpets but every time i say iam going to get it done she starts again. i guess i'll wait until she has to be put down

Dear Ditter, you are my hero for fighting the "winter blues monster" for me with your trusty keyboard. I was laughing so hard I was bouncing and was almost unable to scroll down to see the whole story. I'm glad to know the cat is fine. Keep posting!

A cassette tape--the small kind--is particularly disgusting and very lengthy!

My cat did the same thing only other end. I saw she was trying to eat some thread and I grabbed it and pulled and pulled and pulled while she was gagging the whole time. She is fine. I am very careful about leaving thread laying around now.

Once had a pup that found a pair of panthose. He was outside, thankfully, and I saw him out the kitchen window and heard him yipping. By the time I reached him he had paeed the whole thing. Thankfully.

out cat has always had an unhealthy fascination with stringy things, and with thin plastic, like plastic bags and cellophane. come christmas, he used to think that the tinsel was placed on the tree for his amusement and snackage. every so often, he would experience the "tinsel butt" effect, with us chasing him around to catch him and his decorated behind--sometimes with a cat "decoration" hanging on the end of it. (we used to call him TB--then i quit putting tinsel on the tree. whew!)

advice, though--catch the beast, and snip it off if they have string/tinsel butt. if it is pulled out, it can lacerate their gut, and possibly kill them from infection. of course, it means having to watch them for a day or two--but we all know that tinsel is pretty, and vigilance is just a means to an "end"...

You are something else....ROFL
