Fusible Interfacing Won't Stick
 

Does the glue on fusible interfacings get "old" ?

My fabric is washed - no softeners or dryer sheets use - and the fusibles are not sticking. I know I am going through the proper motions of applying it.

Any explanations?

I have found that it either gets old, or it was bad to begin with, because sometimes a batch just will not stick.

I haven't had any that won't stick, and I've used many that are old. Some need steam and some don't. The right amount of heat is another factor. Maybe you did just get a bad batch.

I am with SallyS, never had one that did not stick but good to know in case I have a problem.

I have experienced some getting old and then not sticking. It doesn't seem to matter if it is real thin or a heavier stabilizer.

Another thought: Are you certain it's a fusible? Does it have a shiny backside or dots of glue? It is strange that it won't stick.

Oh, yes. I'm trying to scrape the glue dots off.

One was a woven that was more tightly woven than cheesecloth, but quite loosely woven. It gave the amount of exxtra body I wanted for my project.

The other is - I think a Pellon - a very light non-woven interfacing with tiny glue dots . It is lighter weight and smaller glue dots than Pellon 911ff.

sometimes the weather has something to do with it. I had problems with pellon in the winter. If it's to dry out sometimes you will have trouble. I was going to throw some out and I called the maker of pellon and they said if it's to dry in the house some of there fusibles don't stick.
