Terri stay safe and let us know when it is over. I'll be thinking of you.

tlrnhi 09-29-2009 03:30 AM

Well, they are saying it's going to hit with stronger winds. I have everything tied and bungee corded....well, as much as I can, that is. If it flys away, then it goes. Nothing I can do. They are saying now it will hit tomorrow around 10pm.
Heard from hubs. He says depending on what goes on with the storm...oh yea, theres another one coming after that supposed to hit on Friday....they'll just most likely ride it out.

So, hopefully it won't be that bad. I'm just hoping we don't lose power, but that's a lost cause. I lose power at least every other day. Lost it for 3 hours today. No clue why either. Called power company and they had no clue it was out. Said it didn't show on their grid. UGH!

Don't you just love living on an island. Some years it can be back to back storms. And you never know when the power is going to go out. When we first moved here that power was going out all the time. Not so much many more. I think the power company has finally joined this century.

You guys stay inside and hopefully stay dry.

tlrnhi 09-29-2009 04:36 AM

we are always losing power. The lines are old. Heck, a gecko can crawl across the line the the power will go out. With all the money they get for power bills, you'd think they could replace them

Esqmommy 09-29-2009 04:56 AM

Hi Terri - glad to hear you are okay for now. I am checking in on the internet for the updates...keep safe, okay. How's Courtney? I know it can be scary for the kids...

tlrnhi 09-29-2009 04:57 AM

Courtney is fine. She is pretty much oblivious to this. She just does her own thing lol

Esqmommy 09-29-2009 04:59 AM

Yes, kids are either scared, or they think it's cool...mine are still young enough to be scared if it happened here!

lfw045 09-29-2009 05:01 AM

Take care, Terri! Try to make a lean-to out of a mattress in a hallway just in case if it is supposed to get that bad with the winds. Hubby out to sea when something like this is happening is the pits.....been there done that on Willoughby Spit back in the 70's. Yes I had a newborn living on Willoughby
spit in Norfolk during that blizzard...........it was paralized here for about 2 weeks.

Bevanger 09-29-2009 05:55 AM

scary. thoughts and prayers your way sunshine

Rhonda 09-29-2009 06:37 AM

keeping you in my prayers!! Pray you get through this alright!

Tink's Mom 09-29-2009 12:33 PM

Been praying....now just get your fabric all ready for a bunch of hand quilting....either that or find a treadle machine.......
can you find a generator????

We had a speaker at our guild meeting a few months ago who lived through it! She had photos and some amazing tales, it was very interesting.

Hope you're doing ok.... and the worry isn't doing your head in! I think much the same, once you've done all you can do, you gotta just let the rest happen.

Good luck!

tlrnhi 09-29-2009 08:40 PM

Well, the sky is a sort of blue gray color. They say it's supposed to it around 6pm now. I'm just waiting! Have all done that I can have done. Tried to run out this morning to pay the rent, but banks were closed. Guess if they are open tomorrow I can get it done, if not, I'll call the landlords and tell them to come pick up their money. Don't want to be late paying!

No word from hubby today...not sure what is going on there.

Another storm headed this way after this one, but it's supposed to just bypass us a little and hit Saipan with 100+ force winds.

tuesy 09-29-2009 09:00 PM

Stay safe Terri.. keep us informed when you can!! I'm saying a prayer for ya'll.

tlrnhi 09-29-2009 09:06 PM

Ok, got an e-mail from the ship. They are staying out to ride out both storms. So, I'm sleeping alone again....not a big deal. BUT, as usual, any damage/trees/ect that needs to be cleaned up after this passes, I'm doing it alone. (yes, will have Courtney, but.....ugh!)

Esqmommy 09-29-2009 09:18 PM

Hi Terri - see you are online still!! I heard about the Tsunami and earthquake in Somoa...they say this might get out to Japan, so I was worried about you there too. We're supposed to get an effect here in CA - somewhere between 8-26 inches higher - just like we had with Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Except we are not as sea level so we won't have the after affect of flooding like those folks did (tragic situation for sure!)

Anyway, keep safe, dry, warm - protect your girl. Keep it touch with us!!

Barb M 09-29-2009 09:34 PM

Oh gosh, stay safe Terri!

tlrnhi 09-29-2009 11:23 PM

WOOHOO!!
This is the latest from the weather center........
BULLETIN
TROPICAL DEPRESSION 18W ADVISORY NUMBER 13
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TIYAN GU WP182009
500 PM CHST WED SEP 30 2009
...TROPICAL STORM 18W DOWNGRADED TO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION...
...TROPICAL DEPRESSION 18W HAS DISSIPATED WEST OF ROTA...
NO WATCHES OR WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT.

But, we now have another one that IS a TYPHOON directly behind it.
We are supposed to get winds and rain from that, but it's headed to the west of us, so it SHOULD miss us completely. That one is headed towards Palau and Yap islands.

I'm thinking those fans I have pointed to the winds have worked! WOOHOO!!!

barnbum 09-30-2009 01:36 AM

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

tlrnhi 09-30-2009 03:19 AM

Up North 09-30-2009 03:34 AM

fluffbug95 09-30-2009 03:41 AM

Stay Safe Terri! Keep those kitties happy!
I hope it blows around you! :)

lfw045 09-30-2009 03:45 AM

Big sigh!!!!!!!!! I'm glad you and Courtney are safe!!!!

mickey 09-30-2009 04:24 AM

Hi terri

glad it dissapated. keep those fans blowing. take a deep breath and take a nap--or sew. just relax and enjoy the good news.

sewsewquilter 09-30-2009 04:44 AM

Great news. I'll have to remember the fan trick. :D

sandpat 09-30-2009 05:18 AM

Whew T.....glad to see you online and that the fans worked this time! You might want to keep them on according to the weather news. Hope you can keep your power too....thats always the pits. I know with each storm you are just that much more anxious to move back to the states. Stay safe!

Tink's Mom 09-30-2009 05:42 AM

Keep those fans going! Tell the whole island to aim all of there's the same direction.
I still think you need a treadle machine for all those no power days....... :D

I told everyone I know that I aimed my fans toward the storm. lol

You going to send me a treadle? :) :)

Mousie 09-30-2009 06:17 AM

whoa, don't want to see no cyclone with you and Courtney, kitties, geckos, totomonas...monitor lizards, all whirling, like on the Wizard of Oz!
If I had gone on that trip to Louisville, and swung by to get you, you'd be in Kentucky right now! But then Courtney would be holding down the fort by herself, so, guess it all worked out.
Besides, your a hero...you sent the first storm away with your fans, and saved the whole island!

Joan 09-30-2009 06:32 AM

So glad you and your family (including DH at sea) are okay, Terri! :D

I kept listening on the news for some report of Guam last night
but there wasn't any. :?:

I do feel so sorry for everyone in Samoa, it sounds like it was devastating there.....

I love mine to much to part with her! Sorry, but I see them from time to time in antique shops and at the flea market. Can't wait to see what you get when you get off that pebble.......

tlrnhi 09-30-2009 07:01 AM

I would LOVE to get my hands on a treadle. There is a lady who works at Ben Franklins. Her mom has one. I had asked her about selling it, but her mom won't. She doesn't understand why. She says it just sits in the house and collects dust. UGH!

MollieSue 09-30-2009 07:26 AM

I just seen this thread! I am soooo glad you all are ok!!!! Scary stuff!

redquilter 09-30-2009 07:43 AM

Thoughts and prayers for you, your family and everyone else in harm's way.

zyxquilts 09-30-2009 10:48 AM

Glad to see that your fans worked Terri! Haven't been on much the last week or so & almost missed this thread altogether...
I know you're as prepared as you can be, but always remember you have all of our "quilting auntie (& uncle)" arms around you & Courtney & the kitties too!
:D

amma 09-30-2009 11:02 AM

So glad that one by passed you!!! Keep the fans on HIGH :D :D :D

I've been hearing about the downgrade of the storm here on the news and have been thinking of you!:)Like us one year...we cleaned out our woods...they looked great..then the ice storm hit...that has been 4 yrs ago and what hit the ground still sits!!:)I picked up a treadle this past summer for $50! In great shape too...all it needed was a good cleaning, oil and someone to get all the kitchen grease off of it!!:)I got mine too for when the power goes out!:)You will find one too Teri!! This treadle started out at 150!:)People think they are worth a gem but, there really is too many still existing for people like us that want more then a pretty:)Stay dry!! And, best of all...stay in and sew!! You need a tsunami quilt now! Skeat

tlrnhi 09-30-2009 06:26 PM

When I get back to the states, I will definitely be looking for a treadle. It's been on my list of wants for years.

Well, blue skies are very pretty today. Hoping it stays that way.

zyxquilts 09-30-2009 07:44 PM

Did you realize that you can still buy brand new treadle machines?!!
