Good Evening Quilters "Quilters Evening Club"

Hi,

Waving from Indiana, USA we are finally getting some rain tonight as it has been so dry here and our yard is now brown (we haven't had rain for over a month)

It was 91 degrees today but our temperature is dropping as we are getting rain this evening

It is suppose to rain Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday,

yipppeeee we are so happy to get 1/2 to 1 inch of rain

What are you sewing or quilting tonight? I thought I would create this topic so we can all get more motivated to sew sew sew and this way we can post our accomplishments or things we need to sew or quilt

isnthatodd 09-01-2010 02:21 PM

It's raining in my neck of Texas and the temperature has dropped about 15 degrees in 2 hours!!! Yeah!!!!Altho 80 still seems warm. I'm looking forward to the 60s and 70s.

I'm in Pennsylvania waiting for the rain. I hope it comes soon.

I'm just clearing brush and limbs in the back yard for the garbage pickup on Thursday.

It is around 89 here right now and everything is so dry it could be a dessert here.

I keep looking at my fabric but can't get into it right now.

Too much work to be done by myself my husband can't do anything because of his health and being without eyesight he tries I give him credit for that.

I'm glad you started this so I can let some stress out.
Sometimes I just need someone to talk too it is so hard.

Hi Craftybear
Not working on anything tonight, still too hot here and tired from work, way toooo hot there. Rec'd 2 patterns from "sewthankful' today, one is Xmas and the other Halloween. Have to get some fabric next week, then I will start. What are you working on?

Quilting Di 09-01-2010 02:37 PM

Okay, now send some of that rain 1 hour north! We haven't gotten a drop and it was 91 her, too. Can't wait for Saturday & 70 degrees. Tonight I am taking photo of quilt just finished. Sorry, can't publish as it is a test/sample for our winter retreat in January. Can only show the "committee" at this point. Then, I need to clean up the sewing room as I have been jumping from one project to another without cleaning up in between. If I can get clean up done tonight, I can sew, sew, sew this weekend (when Gkids aren't here). Enjoy the rain!

Tussymussy 09-01-2010 02:41 PM

Hiya. In a very different time zone here in the UK. A lovely summery day, warm but not too hot - everything seems to be getting ready for Autumn. Nice to be dry after a very wet August!

Kooklabell 09-01-2010 02:47 PM

I just went back to work this week - college, so adjusting to the routine. Its too hot to work in my sewing room tonight. 95 here today. But I'm hoping to finish my FWS squares from last week and print directions for this week! UGH - I'm a member of the slackers group.

I'm also working on a quilt for my neighbor's 3rd birthday. Then I have to make one for her brother, they are twins. Cole's will be easier.

Hoping for some cooler weather by the weekend. Heat and quilting just never seemed to work for me! Hate sweating all over the fabric.

Its been an exciting day here, some idiot took some people hostage in the Discovery TV building 5 min from my office in Silver Spring, MD. They evacuated everyone within 4 block radius, shut down Metro and buses, tied up traffic for hours.
Becoming normal in the DC Metro area. Then "Earl" first he wasn't coming, then he is but not going to affect us, now 75 mph winds. Whats next.

craftybear 09-01-2010 03:36 PM

Hi,

I just heard that on the news,

did everyone get away from the hostage?

glad you are okay,

thanks for letting us know

It is hot and dry in my part of the world we haven't had rain in about 2 months, rained all around us but not here temp has cooled to 86. Enjoy you rain and send some south...
I am working on finishing my Bargello that I started with Barb_Mo a long time ago. I am putting on the border tonight and hope to get it to the LAQ this week end.

tammystitches 09-01-2010 03:51 PM

put together a table cloth yesterday (fabric only.. no batting, no quilting.. just fabric with a fall theme) have been handquilting my Harbor Quilt Shop (Gig Harbor WA) BOM (from 2006 or 2007) quilt while watching favorite shows on the internet (due to finances, cancelled cable 6 months ago) ... have 8 blocks completed and 4 yet to do.. then on to the borders..

Shelbie 09-01-2010 03:55 PM

It's just as hot in Canada, 32C which I think is close to 90F. We're trying to finish combining barley and baling second cut hay before the rain comes. It's just been too hot to quilt. I stitched a little on one of the quilts for our October quilt show late last night and stitched an apron for the quilter's boutique at the same show. Did manage to get the college dorm quilt finished for DD as school move-in is this weekend.

barbbrad 09-01-2010 03:57 PM

I have 2 quilts I am working on and just taking a break to make supper.

barbbrad 09-01-2010 03:58 PM

I wish it were warm here in saskatchewan, quilting gives me a good excuse not to go out LOL

Ditter43 09-01-2010 04:03 PM

I had my two year old grandson today. He has a slight fever and so can't go to daycare. Now I know why I have been feeling bad...Some virus the DGC picked up the first week of school!
I got my pp patterns today for the Japanese fan quilt. It will take a while for me to decide what fabrics I am going to use. It won't be a quick project, so I will work on other things at the same time.
When my DGD was here the other day, she went through my scraps and picked out fabrics for me to make her some doll quilts. I think I have a quilter to be there, she commented on how she liked to feel the fabrics and look at the different patterns!
I am not going to work on anything tonight. Just finished laundry and vacuuming and I am ready to relax for a while. So here I am!

redvette54 09-01-2010 04:03 PM

It's cooling down alittle. Spent too much time on the board today, but did get the camper cleaned out for our getaway this weekend. I'm working on a UFO, that was started by someone else. Its so simple, but giving me a heck of a time. Then off to bed and back to work tomorrow.

cjomomma 09-01-2010 04:04 PM

Good evening craftybear and everyone else. I belong to the morning club can I be part of this one too? Ingot my blocks sewn together from this morning now I need to cut them again to make Ohio Stars for Danmar. Right now I am on a stationary bike getting in my exercise for the day. Been on here 27 min. so far and did a 30 min. workout before getting on the bike. Glad to see you are feeling better.

debbieumphress 09-01-2010 04:24 PM

Cjo you are making me tired. I don't do the excercise thing.
However, it is pouring down rain in Arlington,Texas where I am at the hospital with mom. And it got totally dark gray outside. We are on the fifth floor too. lol. Today I read my new quilt mags and have some autumn themed items picked out to do when I get home.

Patty Patches 09-01-2010 04:55 PM

leaha 09-01-2010 05:29 PM

Well today I spent the day shifting things about in my studio. One of these days I will finally get things just right, or not. But I keep trying.
Tonight I will start working on my OS blocks. They will be a blue batik with a black background, to go with my lime green batik and black blocks.

May I ask. how does this work? do we meet once a week with progress report? Or?

julybaby8 09-01-2010 07:02 PM

It's been very hot here., but got some rain tonight. It's supposed to get cool for Fri and Sat. then get hot again.
Can't really complain ,because before we know it it'll be snowing.!!

fuail 09-01-2010 07:11 PM

California Mountains here. We had out "late August cold snap" fog, chilly wind, but it's back up to the mid-80's today.

I might quilt tonight - working on a baby quilt right now, but it's my youngest ds's 11th birthday...but the kids are all playing video games right now, so who know when we'll eat Birthday pie!

Tussymussy 09-02-2010 01:29 AM

A lovely cool, but sunny Autumn Day here. However, you are all making me very jealous about the work you are doing. I cannot sew (hand or machine) at the moment as I am recovering from eye surgery.

These boards are my life line as I cannot read or watch TV either. Boredom set in last week and without being here - I can just about see the screen through 1 lens of my glasses, the other has been covered over.

It will be another 2 weeks before I can have new specs.

Thank you all so much for keeping me interested (and amused) with your talk of your families and projects.

grandme26 09-02-2010 07:36 AM

Here in Arkansas it is still in the 90's and hopefully we will have rain this evening.
Went to a sewing class yesterday to make a lone star quilt. Cut out the first 1/4th of it, had it almost put together when I saw that I sewed one row of blocks backwards in order. Brought it home to rip out and start over.
Today will try to get my sewing areas cleaned enough to complete a baby quilt I am working on for a baby shower on the 12th. Then start hitting my UFO's before I start on something new on the 18th.

Alice Woodhull 09-02-2010 11:10 AM

Send it on down to southern Indiana. We need it bad, bad, bad. None in sight so far today, just weak promises.

grandme26 09-02-2010 11:34 AM

We have had some rain now and the temps are in the upper 70's.

grannypat7925 09-02-2010 02:40 PM

It is so hot here in Oklahoma that our plants are dying even tho we are watering. Okla got rain yesterday - it split and went around us. We were supposed to get rain tonight - it went right beside us. So tired of watering! But it is cooler.

Dee 09-02-2010 06:22 PM

Bit warm here today, 93. Now may get some rain. We need it.

smiles2you 09-02-2010 07:14 PM

Hi from Michigan...we are getting some thunder but no rain at this time... But, I was working on a quilt called Razzle Dazzle... it sure is very colorful... it has 24 different fabrics in it... everyone have a great night.

Hello CraftyCritter! (I will always call you a critter because you got me addicted to that word game)

I am working on a BOM from Connecting Threads (i think) called Moolight Dancing. It has 12 blocks (sampler style). I have made 11 and now I don't like it anymore. And I have a new thread you can get started, "what is one of your favorite quilting gadgets/notions" Since you are so good at getting things started (word game) this would be a good one.

How can you type and be on a stationary bike at the same time without falling off?

My DGS was here again today and I felt so lousy I didn't do much beyond taking care of him. My DH watched him this am so I could sleep in.
This evening I made a stack of copies for a paper pieced block called "Origami stars." It is a fairly simple pattern, the hardest part is keeping the colors straight in each block. It takes four blocks to make one pattern block and each one is done a little differently. I figured I would just work on one block of the pattern at a time; I will be less likely to mess it up that way. I think I am going to do it in batiks.....not sure yet. I really need to do a few Christmas projects too.
I am hoping the grand son will be able to go to day care tomorrow so I can do a little sewing. I don't feel well enough to do too much of anything. :|

Sew Krazy Girl 09-02-2010 10:57 PM

It amazes me that you ladies are on so late into the evening (night). This morning I went to JoAnn's to buy backing for two tops. I was able to layer one quilt, but the other had a ruffled border. Oooops! My fault, as I never measure. Removed the four borders and sewed them back on. Should get it layered tomorrow.

Hubby and I went to our favorite French bakery and had a coffee and cookie. It's nice to sit out under the umbrellas in the warm sunshine and just visit with each other. We also like to people-watch. When we do something that doesn't include the other (like going to JoAnn's) or he visits friends, it gives us something to talk about. You learn after you've been married a while and are retired that you have to make life interesting. It gets your creative juices flow - like quilting. Thanks.

stancilgirls 09-03-2010 05:13 AM

Earl has come and gone. Just a little rain that was desperatly needed. Yesterday I cleaned up my fall garden and planted fall vegetables. Today (after I work 4 hours, yahoo) I'm going to work on quilting a beautiful quilt for a good friend of mine who is getting married on Septmeber 18. Hope I finish it in time. It's called "Romancing in NC" from a shop hop pattern I got at a LQS in Morehead City, NC. This is my first real attempt at machine quilting, so wish me luck. She'll love it no matter what.

iltoaz 09-03-2010 06:31 AM

Well here in the desert southwest - we are at above normal for this time of year - predicted 110 for today (friday)and above normal for the week-end. I went this week and purchased (yeah I know, should stay away from the fabric store) fabric for a Halloween quilt. Can't wait to start on that.

gramquilter2 09-03-2010 09:43 AM

Not sure when this link got started but I am sitting here in ND COLD and wishing it was warm, but I guess it's about time to change the season!! I am working on a Michelle's Design collection. It uses different stitches and feet so I am learning a lot about my 4 year old machine.
