Yesterday, Boyfriend stopped to pick up his dog, I babysit her, and said he had to hurry, my present was coming. PRESENT?????!!!! What is it? Something off craigslist, he says, youre gonna LOVE it. Come to my house after Supper!
I just KNOW this is a treadle. Probaly a Singer, as he sees me drooling over them every time I see one on craigslist. I hurry up and choke down dinner!!!!!!!!!!
Drive to Bf's, just in time to see a guy pulling up with a trailor. Guess what is on it>>????????????
A LAWN MOWER!!!!!!!! A LAWN MOWER?????? This is NOT my treadle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, well, its a riding lawn mower, a John Deere, who doesnt love a Deere, ya know. Its honestly really fun, and nice.....BUT................
LOL, maybe next time????

Sewlmatesister 05-22-2010 05:52 AM

You have to remember a deere to a man is like a longarm to a quilter!!! LOL

DebraK 05-22-2010 05:52 AM

Charlee 05-22-2010 05:56 AM

Aw Carrie! How disappointing! (funny, but disappointing!) Go buy your treadle machine...and tell him it's a present for him!!

RatherB Quilting 05-22-2010 06:10 AM

The classic man--"here's your present, can I play with it?"
Too cute.

CarrieAnne 05-22-2010 06:13 AM

LOL, ya....then he tells me, go try it out. Try with my front lawn, LOL!
Okay, its FAST...so I figure I will have more time to quilt now?

cjomomma 05-22-2010 06:38 AM

LMBO. Cause I would be excited over a riding mower.

CAROLJ 05-22-2010 06:39 AM

What a clever idea!

Tell him just wait for his present, then present him with a treadle!

I agree: perhaps for a birthday, father's day, or christmas present. I once got a food processor for mother's day, yep, it's still in the box (waiting for him to use it).

I like your idea. (grin)

JJs 05-22-2010 12:48 PM

you might wanna rethink the 'boyfriend' part - sheesh...
my uncle gave my aunt a pressure cooker for Christmas one year - she was not pleased....

QuiltingGrannie 05-22-2010 12:51 PM

I bought my DH a laptop computer for Mother's Day, now waiting to see what he buys me for Father's Day.

I agree - buy 'him' a treadle.

Enjoy!

jay pea 05-22-2010 12:54 PM

Does he have a brother?

Somewhere there is a treadle for you, just have to wait.

Once my supposedly intelligent brother got his wife for her
birthday..are you ready for this?>.....he got her a chain saw!!!

And was honestly bewildered when she wouldn't speak to him
for a week! He took it back and had the sense to ASK her what
she wanted for a present!

cjomomma 05-22-2010 02:47 PM

Maybe I am different but I like the power tools as well as the quilting tools too.

littlehud 05-22-2010 08:40 PM

That is so funny. I would love the lawn mower too.

bearisgray 05-22-2010 10:23 PM

Well, it is "awesome" - just not what you wanted.

Barbm 05-23-2010 04:55 AM

I bought myself a riding lawn mower 2 years ago. Haven't been on it since we got it. DS loves to mow the lawn on it. Can we say "Tom Sawyer"?

Ive been looking at treadles for a while on CL. No one emails me back. If it's gone- tell me. grrr.

 What Carol said.
Some of my presents have been a dremmil, drills, small rotary blade saw (what do you call them?), I'd have to go through the garage to remember all of them. He did teach me how to use them so that is a plus on his part. It is amazing how many times I have used them and how much fun they were. I've moved on now, I put the tasks on the honey do list.

CarrieAnne 05-23-2010 11:14 AM

Wow, that looks SO much like the one I got yesterday off craigslist. Mine is a WhiteFR 221071, and it works but the cabnit isnt in good shape either. Mines very dirty, but Rob paid 50.00 for mine!

Now I like your train of thought! LOL

dyer804 05-23-2010 06:17 PM

I once got a pressure washer for Mother's Day! He got a new blender for Father's Day! A good friend of mine tells me that her mother bought a new dress for her husband's birthday each year so he could see her wearing something nice. As you can see, you can make this work in your favor.

Oh, so true a statement I haven't heard in a long time!

wildyard 05-23-2010 08:05 PM

My DH bought me a riding mower for my birthday, about 4 years ago. He got on it to show me how everything worked and I haven't had to mow the lawn since then. Now that worked out to be one of my better presents in the long run, cuz I can now quilt while he mows. Smiles and hugggggs!

garysgal 05-23-2010 09:32 PM

that's funny! My husband came home one day after work and said he had bought me something. I got really excited-maybe a new ???? It was a Scroll saw!!!! (I have yet to use it-it scares me to death!)

BellaBoo 05-24-2010 05:37 AM

I was tired of a little patch of grass growing that no one seemed to want to mow. It was off to itself and usually forgotten when the lawn mower (yes a Deere here too!)was out. I went to Lowe's and bought a small electric mower and a very long cord. I came home and had the patch mowed in no time. I got busy doing something else and forgot all about the mower. This was the week before Mother's Day. Mother's Day what did I get? A brand new electric lawn mower, exactly like the one I just bought. LOL. DH thought I'd love it since I gripped about the patch of grass being missed all the time. He didn't notice the patch was mowed, he didn't notice my new lawnmower in the car garage, and he didn't think to buy a long cord. My DD was here for Mother's Day and said Oh, I can use one of the mowers so she took the one I bought and my cord.

MNQuilter 05-24-2010 05:42 AM

I had to laugh at the riding lawn mower! For Mother's Day one year I got a lawn mower, a dish washer one year, and I think the new garbage disposal came right around Mother's day one year too! Seeing a pattern? :0) He did get me a real gift too, but likes to joke about the others!

EC 05-24-2010 07:46 AM

I'm with Charlee!!! I got a used fish tank one year, many moons ago, for my birthday!!! Yeah, right, I needed fish to take care of!

Ended up getting him a digital camera when they first came out. I LOVE IT!!!!!! He's still asking how to turn it on! LOL
