Just once my husband went into my sewing room and got my best pair of scissors and used them to cut cardboard, needless to say I was mad enough to spit, well I went to his tool box and got out his best and most expensive chisel and I used it scrap paint off of the side walk, well needless to say he was mad enough to spit. Point made!! He went out and bought me new scissors. Now he realizes that my tools are as task specific as his are, so he askes and also went and bought his own set of scissors. He also has his own iron and ironing board because he likes to use starch on his shirts and I flip out if there is starch on my board or iron.

Mine over the years has learned that "Leave my sewing room alone" if want something ask for it.I have to admit it has taken me 34 years to get the point across but he has learned. But there somethings I have to have him reach for me, for he's 6'2" and I'm only 5'2".
|
My DH and children learn at an early age, (well not an early age for DH) to respect my sewing things. Course my DH can't find anything on his own.
|
My DH & DS used my sewing scissors for a cardboard project, ONCE! Boy oh boy did I blister their ears for that. Of course then they had to buy me new scissors, I think that's what really did the trick.
|
just tell him that you have a couple of mouse traps hidden inside, lol
|
I am just over 5 feet tall, hubby is 6'2. I learned early on that if I do not want him to find things I put them close to the floor if possible. I understand your plight. I have threatened bodily harm if he touches my sissors. Hang in there.
|
wow, i thought he had a "quilting accident", my husband knows not to touch anything in this room, evn askes which scissors to use. I guess this is a good place to hde things from him, he comes in here, but never touches anything, im lucky
|
Mine always asked are these okay to use.He doesn't like dealing with what happen if he uses the wrong pair.
|
Many years ago, my older son used my good sewing scissors to cut a diaper box. I was yelling at him for touching my scissors, much less using them in that awful way. My husband was working midnights and finally came out of the bedroom and told me to either kill David or be quiet. He needed to sleep.
Well,David will be 34 soon so I didn't kill him. But NO ONE ever used my sewing scissors again. LOL |
I'll tell the truth. My husband is afraid to mess with my stuff because I threatened to sew all the openings (every opening not just the fly which apparently is pretty worthless) shut on his underwear. I demonstrated once on just one old pair and hung it on the front door when I was really mad (that was years ago, he remembers the lesson. I used a really small stitchlength!) He got the point.

I am seriously considering buying a railway carriage dumping it my yard and moving in to it! Why....ah well apart from being middle-aged and increasingly grumpy I am washing 2 metres of purple fabric. Fabric which yesterday was freshly washed and pressed ready to use, then my husband gets home with some shopping dumps the bags, with the leaking pack of raw chicken on top of said fabric! I didn't see it happen...but when I walked past the chest on which I had the fabric stacked I asked what the giant wet patches were..."Oh that would be where I put the bag with the leaky pack of chicken" says he! AAAAARGH!

How about DH using my expensive pinking shears to cut metal screening ? But I'll keep him , he's just about perfect in every other way. When he needed better scissors I gave him one of my old rotary cutters. You would think I gave him gold ! He supports me in all my many hobbies so it seemed only fair to share my booty.
|
I'll keep mine too. He just know that I don't get mad often and when I usually do I cook to get even. If I resort to the underwear thing, he's really done it.
|
My DH really isn't too bad now. He knows better than to touch anything in the sewing room. The only thing is the iron is in there and sometimes he needs to iron and will take my big board off and when I go to iron I have to put it back on, but I know that's not a big deal. I have household scissors down stairs in the junk drawer, so he never touches mine. He stopped complaining about fabric purchases because I've said I'll stop buying fabric if he stops buying beer.

Reminds me of a beginning quilt series that I watched from Fons and Porter.
They STRONGLY advocated purchasing padlocks and keys for the scissors ... a simple eye bold, small chain and a padlock/key set would fasten it into your cupboard and you would be the only one who could get it out to use it. <wave> |
DH is good about asking to use anything in my sewing room and in turn I ask to use his tools

Anyways getting back to the story, he was nosing around in a cabinet (probably looking for candy), just so happens to be the one I keep my cutter and scissors in, anyways I asked him what he was doing and I guess I scared him. About that time I hear something hit the floor I turn around just in time to see him picking up my rotary cutter! He puts it back in the cabinet and closes the door. Fast farward 3 hours, kids are sleeping husband is walking out the door for work, I am getting all my quilting stuff out, I make a cut, go to close the cutter and the blade won't go back in! I guess I should be glad I don't have to drag all three kids to the store because the blade won't come OUT, but grrrrr. Moral of the story, there are just some things that should be off limits to even HUSBANDS! Exp. in my house. lol I wish he wasn't so tall, I would put things up so he and the kids couldn't reach them. But unfortunately I would have to grow two foot just to be a couple inches taller than him! I always felt this way about my purse. I gave him the same respect regarding his wallet. Too bad your husb. didn't at least tell you it broke. But then, he may not have known how they work. They are a pretty technical tool. LOL |

And to scream and threaten bodily harm for not asking is also disrespectful and childish. |

You guys crack me up!! So many funny stories, although I'm sure they were irritating at the time. |
Years ago when my boys were young, I had one pair of ercnomical kind, and they were very costly. I came home from work, and here was my hubby and three sons using those scisories to cut fine wire for the boy scout brown derby race cars. Even when I was working and making good money, It was rare that I bought for myself. but I did buy those. I did not have to say anything, as hubby looked at my face and told the boys were in trouble. God bless. Penny

DH knows not to mess around in my sewing room, but I doubt he would anyway. He's very respectful of my things and knows I put things where I can find them. (Okay, so it looks like a tornado hit the room, but I know exactly where everything is! LOL!)
He won't even get something out of my purse for me. He'll just hand me the whole purse, and let me find what I need. The only time he messes with anything of mine is when he needs a pair of pliers or some other tool. He's got TONS of tools of his own, but they're scattered all over the house and garage, and he can never find what he needs. A couple of Christmases ago, he got me my own little toolbox and several sets of tools (that's what I asked for). He sometimes "borrows" them, and I have to chase them back down afterwards. But overall, I don't have to worry about him "borrowing" my scissors or other sewing stuff. I howled about the underwear-sewing! That's hilarious! I'll have to remember that in case DH ever does do something that justifies a little revenge! |
